Does anyone else smell garbage?

1 Rating: 1, Useful: 8 / 8

The game play is weak, with all the explosions and lights going off its almost impossible to keep track of your character on the screen. I heard this game was comparable to Contra witch I loved. I was lied to. This game looks like something off of the original NES got a graphical makeover and nothing more. And the replay value is zip. Its the same bad guys in the same spots over and over, no artificial intelegence to speak of. Theres bad camera angles, bad transitions from screen to screen. It goes on and on and on.

This game is aptly titled!

Expendable is the name of the game. So I played it once and threw it in the trash. I couldn't even give it away... Nobody wanted to suffer through the pile of garbage for the whole 20 minutes that I did. The graphics are very good and over the top(but WAY too small). The sound is pretty good too. Then you actually sit down to play this boring waste and it hits you... All you do is walk around killing the same three enemies and finding the key to the next door. Hey! It's Doom in a top down perspective! That's exactly what it is. Don't buy this one, even if it's the only game left to complete your collection of DC games. This ain't Pokemon, you don't have to catch them all. You definetly don't have to catch this one. Pass it on by.

I had bought this game at a toysrus store in Fargo, ND. the game case said that it was rated t for animated violence. when I got home and opened it and started playing I was quite surprised.
there was mass amount of blood in this game. later, I went on the internet and went to the toysrus site and researched the game and to find out that there was gore and realistic violence( to find out what this means go to http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/tg/stores/static/-/videogames/v.../104-4448277-636154
in conclusion, I would like to say that if you like body parts flyin' and lots o' blood, than this is a game for you, but for those of you that are queasy at the site of this content stay away from this game. I don't like games that are like that, so, that is why I gave this game but one star

Far from awesome

This game should off never been made. They probbably spend 15 minutes during a coffe brake to make this game. The graphics and gameplay do not surpass that of any Gameboy game. The gameplay is haulted by unrealistic amount of fire power.Contra for the NES was a better game than this one. Dreamcast did a lousy job releasing this game.Whatever you do , do not waste your money on this game. You would have more fun sending me the cost of the game then actually playing it.

This is not Contra for the DC!

You are unable to jump in this game. So if you're caught in a cross fire, you will be shot. This happens very often. If you were able to jump, then the game would be a little easier to play.

The graphics are weak, and the actions is very repetitive. After 3 days of playing I decided to return it for credit.

As another reviewer said, enen if you're finishing your collection of the few remaining DC games, you should stay away from this one.

Boring

I think this game, Expendable, was a waste of time basically and had the same plot as I continued to play it. You walk around and kill aliends that are trying to take over all the planets that humans live in. I do like some of the weapons that are avalable throughout the game but I don't like the view it gives you. I think it's an overall hard game to play esspecially certain bosses but after awhile you just get tired of constant action and shooting and mindless killing. It doesn't any good movies in the game either.

How expendable is Expendable? Very.

Expendable is a shooter-type game in which you, a muscular commando-type guy (with a big gun that shoots out energy pellets) must attack and defeat the opposing forces of aliens and their robots. It sounds just like a run-of-the-mill shooter, except for one thing - IT IS EXTREMELY DIFFICULT, even in the first levels.

Gameplay: 7/10

The game play is actually pretty well-done. You can collect special weapons other than your bazooka-type gun, and some of them help you out a whole lot, considering that there are sometimes SWARMS of enemies. But after the ammo (very few shells) run out (which wouldn't take 2-3 minutes), if you're still stuck with a swarm of enemies, you're dead.

Also, the whole game is extremely difficult (except for maybe the later levels, but that could be your skill improving). Finding this shooter-like game under my computer desk, I thought to give it a try, and, well, I nearly gave up during the middle of the first level.

Controls: 6/10

There are two forms of controls in Expendable - keyboard and using the joystick. On the keyboard, controls are simple - movement is the arrow keys, fire is space, and then you have buttons for strafing. That's great, but when you actually try to use the controls, it'll damper down your opinion about it. I tried to move away from a huge swarm of enemies, but instead I ran around in a circle straight into the enemies. Just trying to use the controls to move hurts you, or at least slows you down.

Story/Plot: 0/10
There IS an intro movie, but it's relatively disgusting. And even if it DID have something to do with the story (if there is one - I can't see any), it doesn't seem to be connected with it.

Graphics: 5/10

The graphics are horrible for a PC game - but it doesn't really matter. Even though your character and the enemies may be blocky and unrealistic, it doesn't distract you and get in your way.

Sound/Music: 9/10
The sound and music are actually one of the best points in the game. Because the graphics are terrible, Rage probably needed something to even it out - and it turns out to be the sounds and music. Not all of the aliens' screams sound the same, and they all seem very realistic. The music is awesome, and the vibes sometimes do send a shudder up your spine.

Replay Value: 3/10
Because this game is extremely difficult in that you can't save and that you have to start all over from the first level, I don't believe anyone would play the game all over again after beating it once.

Overall: 5/10
This game isn't good. If Rage had done something to lower the difficulty by a whole lot, then it would probably be a lot better. But in the meantime, play something else, because Rage's Expendable is truly expendable.

Not worth it, at any price...

The first thing that I noticed about this game was that certain areas are really dark and you cannot really see what is going on. I think that they did this to make some of the awsome lighting effects for the explosions and stuff stand out but I just found the darkness annoying. The "Kiss - Psycho Circus" game for Dreamcast had this same problem with darkness.

The next thing that I noticed was that the controls really sucked badly. Your biggest enemy in this game is the control pad. You have to constantly "straff" in order to kill all the enemys withoy getting yourself killed but straffing in this game is very difficult and awkward. I love co op shootemups like Contra and Ikari Warriors. This game does not even compare to those games. This game is very poor. I threw my copy in the garbage.

Mediocre, but a good stress reliever

This game, at first glance, looks very nice. However, after playing the game, you quickly realize that it doesn't play very well. It is a good time-killer if you are simply looking for something to relieve stress and to please the eye, but it is rather average in all other aspects.

I enjoyed this game

This game isn't mindless! I completed it (after many long hours) and I was only able to do so by using my mind and trying to figure out how to destroy the enemy without losing all of my men. You have to have cunning and daring or else your dead. Basically, it's like guerrilla warfare. The graphics in this one are really great.

But this game really hits home that war sucks. You see that a solder really is expendable. You have to be in order to win. However, its a great game to relieve some stress.
