Arcade-style racing at it's best

If you're looking for a rally racing simulator (like the Rally tracks in GTA3) - don't buy WRC. But if you're looking for a FUN racing game with just enough realism to keep it interesting, WRC can't be beat.

This game is a blast, you race in 14 countries (5 stages in each), each one is unique and requires learning new skills to conquer. From Italy with paved twisting mountain roads where each curve presents a deadly cliff, to Australia with powdery red dirt that is a power-sliders dream, to great Britain's mud-fest tracks with brutal hairpins...this game keeps throwing new challenges at you.

The graphics are superb, with depth-of-field bluring, debris on the tracks and beautiful cars. The cars accumulate dirt and damage as you race a stage, so it's important to push the limits, but not go too far...if you crash too often or too badly, the car won't drive right (and you won't win).

The sound is excellent, constantly providing useful information about your traction and terrain. The engine sounds are higher pitched than you might expect, but these are generally small cars so it's fits.

The tracks are easy to drive on, but many prove to be a challenge to master. The cars are extremely responsive and make mastering each kind of terrain a lot of fun.

One thing to know about this game is that it conforms to the real WRC rules, so each race is a time trial...meaning you race alone against the *times* set by other computer drivers (although the game keeps a record of your best times on each stage). If you absolutely need to race against other cars, ala Gran Tourismo, then WRC isn't for you. Personally I like the time trial aspect, it's always you vs the track.

BEYOND Superior!!!

This game is by FAR the best I have played so far. I would give it 6 stars if i could. Although my game library is not exactly ready to rival the Library of Congress, but from what racing games I have and have seen, there are no immediate rivals. If you are a huge fan of the WRC, as shown on the SPEED Channel, or only just interested in driving cars in ways never imagined by the Highway Patrol, this game is the closest thing to sitting in the driver's seat. The only gripes I have are: long load times (about 1 min.), Colin McRae's name is stuck as 'Ford Driver' (I'm sure his name is copyrighted), and when you race as him his name turns up as Delecour on the splits (the programmers must have been sleep-deprived). However those minor glitches are nothing on the wonderful content this game has. Excellent cars, excellent replays, realistic tracks, and physics that should leave GT3 loyalists dropping their jaws. This is such a steal, it should be illegal.

Fun Game, Impressive.

I have two auto-related PS2 games that I consider loads of fun, one being Gran Turismo 3 and the other being WRC. I have not played WRC all that much yet, but so far I have had a ruddy good time playing this game. The graphics are very good, the replays outstanding. The playability and fun factors rate high with me.

Fun rally game

As a huge fan of rally games, I had to add this to my library. This game offers nice graphics, great control, and a HUGE amount of tracks. There are at least 18 or more countries to race through, and for a rally game that is a lot. The best part about this game is how fast it runs. Ive never played a rally game that you could drive so fast in (an fly off the side of a cliff if your not careful). Also, incredible replays with good music are optional to watch after you race, best replays ive ever seen in a game, by far. I highly reccomend for rally game fans.

This game is ok. I was really excited to get it, but then i played it...this game takes no real skill. Gran tourismo 3 u needed skill this, u can fly through it. Every race i run im 30 seconds ahead and theres no competition. damage is minimal and when u get damage u can feel the control of the car slipping. all in all this is a fun game

FAR Better than Rally Events in the Gran Turismo Series

When I was living in Belgium in 1990-1991, I saw rally racing for the first time on Eurosport, and I just could not understand the appeal. It was not until Gran Turismo 2 - and more recently Gran Turismo 3 - that I really began to have an appreciation for rally racing. I have also begun watching Speed Channel's coverage of the World Rally Championship whenever I can, both for the action itself and to listen to the various languages. Except for the lack of multiple languages (in the North American version of the game), World Rally Championship brings the excitement of the real-world World Rally Championship home... without the bruises when the driver rolls the car!!!

This game is FAR superior to Rally Events in the Gran Turismo series. Gran Turismo 3 removed the only two stage-style courses from GT2; World Rally Championship sports about 80 total stages, between actual rallies and Time Trials - with some of these stages unlockable. Special bonus codes - also unlockable - produce an interesting twist on the compeition. Even many of the in-game movies - most of which provide an excellent overview of the real-world version of each rally from the 2001 season - are unlockable features.

However, the two-player mode really lacks in options, especially in views. Car set-ups are incredibly simplistic, which is quite a letdown after playing Gran Turismo 3 and F1 2001 extensively. While the navigator's instructions are often spot-on, there are some critical instances when important dangers are NOT mentioned, and are completely unseen from the in-car cameras. Also, the learning curve between the penultimate and final rallies of the season (World Championship mode) is VERY steep, making it virtually impossible to win the Rally of Great Britain.

Overall, World Rally Championship is a wonderful game. The release of this game combined with the excellent coverage of the real-world World Rally Championship on Speed Channel will hopefully bring rally racing some significant exposure in the States.

This is by far the best racing game released on the PS2 since GT3 and as far as Rally racing goes this is #1. If you are looking for great visuals and the feel of rally racing then WRC is it.

I just got wrc and it is a hit with me

I am a diehard fan of the world rally championship and I must therefore love this game. I have gt3 but however i find the rally stages in it to be painful incomplete. If you do not like rallying and do not know how to set up a car for extreme racing off road i do not recommed this game for you. The only pitfalls
i could find with the game is the fact that you cannot select which music plays and two that there aren't enough real life driver in the game, hmm bam studios maybe you need to look at that for WRC2...

Great for WRC fans

I've been an avid fan of the WRC for years (even went out and bought a Subaru WRX car) and this game is a blast. It's so true to the TV show that, if you're a fan, you should get it just for that. Graphics are very good, the replay mode with multiple views is just like TV, and gameplay is decent. To sum up:

Pros:
- Graphics
- Accuracy to real WRC coverage
- decent (but not great) gameplay

Cons:
- Takes forever to load a new stage
- A little too easy to win in normal mode (more fun to race against friends in Time Trial mode
- If you sky off a cliff, you just get a 3-second penalty and no damage (not too realistic)
- Co-driver calls are often too late and sometimes inaccurate

If I weren't a huge WRC fan, I probably would've given this game three stars, but it gets 4 from this racing fanatic.

THE WORST
