This game isn't going to knock your socks off with it's graphics or storyline, but it's a solid button masher. It is what it is. If you're at all interested in the Conan story, or the world in which he lives, this game will keep your attention. In the end, it's not going to advance the video game industry, but it'll keep you occupied until the next big title from PS3 comes out.

good action game

If you like gore and action this game has it. It plays like god of war but with more blocking counters with gore added to it. the story graphics aren't the best but the gameplay graphics are pretty good. The story is ok not the most thought out story I've seen but it worked. the game is still very fun to play even that I had to start it on hard lever just to be able to get some challenge out of it, but that's because it plays like god of war which is my favorite game that I still play. I still died acouple of times so not bad. I grade it a B- almost c+

pretty fun, but lacks replay value.

fans of hack and slash games will definately get a kick out of conan. the game features a pretty good combat system and is very bloody. the gore is one of the best things about the game. enemys can be split in 2, decapitated and impaled by a variety of deadly weapons. the games story is very lacking. i know conan is searching for a wizard and trying to find his lost armor. besides that, i cant say much about the story. another flaw this game has is that its a little to similar to god of war. this really isnt a huge problem but i felt like it was a ripoff of that game. foe example, for every boss conan kills, he regains a peice of armor. each peice of armor gives conan a special magic power. some of these powers are very similar to the god powers in god of war like the raven attack wich is similar to the hades soul power and the abilitie to turn your enemys into stone. the biggest problem i had with conan was the last boss. this boss fight is vert difficult while the rest of the game is some what easy. i was cussing up a storm and nearly threw the controller across the room in anger. and also, after you finally do beat him your treated to a dull cliche of an ending. these flaws dont detract from conans fun on a huge scale, but they do bring it down a bit. while conan doesnt offer anything fresh or intersting its still alot of fun. its worth renting.

Disappointed

Before I give my opinion, let me preface by saying I am a HUGE fan of Conan. I grew up reading his comics, magazines and books (John Buscema r0ckx)I've been saying for years that Conan would be a great license for a video game and was overjoyed when I heard about the game. Here's what I thought:

The game was ok. Some of the moves and combos are nice, but they definitely came up short in the story department. The story was more than a touch boring, having us assume the role of Conan searching for magic pieces of armor(?!?). Developers, Conan very rarely wore armor and didn't wear it frequently enough to miss it if he lost it. This is one reason why he is such a compelling character; he'd take on armys with just a sword in his hand and a loincloth covering his area. Not to mention Conan hates magic, why would he be chasing magic items?

Another thing is Conan is supposed to be a womanizer that puts James Bond to shame. Yet throughout the game he frees half-naked women (and does nothing else with em, huh? A hug at least would make sense) pushing them aside trying to save some chick he just met??? Why wouldn't he just take the first three chicks he freed back to his place?

The combat was also ok. The boss fights were interesting and inventive yet extremely repetitive. How many times are we supposed to repeat the same actions to put down a boss, have them get back up, and repeat the whole process all over again AND have fun doing it? The final boss battle in particular sucked badly, the difficulty and monotony of it made me want to unleash a combo on my controller irl.

So in summary, if you want gore and boobies, this game won't disappoint...much. If you are looking for a compelling story that is faithful to the Conan mythos, go to a bookstore.

Wait for God of War 3

When it comes to games, I consider myself pretty eclectic. I do tend to vere towards to genres though, "hack and slash" and FPS. With that said, I pushed most of the medicore reviews of Conan and purchased it. I then went on to beat the game in about 6 hours and sell it a week later. Forgetting how short it is, which is really hard to forget for the price that you pay for it, graphically this game is half-sad. I say half because, during the gameplay itself, it's fairly good. The animations of the combos are very well done with plenty of blood and gore. The maidens are...very well done (leaving it at that). However, during the cutscenes is where it falls significantly short. The characters seem to have this white aura that surrounds them and, for the most part, the facial movements don't even fit with what is being said. It's like watching a very badly dubbed foreign film. My low rating for the fun factor is excessively outweighed by the frustration factor. You will find yourself incresingly getting very upset with some of the battles (especially the last one, after 15 deaths it became rather annoying). Overall, I would say that if you want a "hack and slash" for the PS3, please go and get Heavenly Sword. Or wait for God of War 3, which is pretty much all Conan is a very bad rip-off of.

PLAY IT!
