After what is widely considered one of the greatest Movie to video game adaptations: Super Star Wars, Super Empire Stirkes Back and Super Return of the Jedi followed. Return of the Jedi is a good game, but if you know what character to use the game is incredibly easy. Case in point, Leia can be nearly invincible if you know how to use her charge (and if you want to defeat the first boss in five easy hits you'll use that).
The gameplay is more similar to Super Star Wars rather than The Empire Stirkes Back. Before each level you can select who you want to be from one of five characters, depending on the level. You can be Luke, Han, Leia, Chewie or Wicket (the Ewok). Each character has their own strentghs and weaknesses, for example Luke only uses a lightsaber and if you want difficulty in the game then you'll choose him since he also has the least amount of life. But the fact that Luke can heal himself and use his lightsaber as a projectile easily remedies his weaknesses (you CAN beat the first boss with Luke I've done it thousands of times you'll just take A LOT of damage). Han and Chewie have weak blasters (unless you power them up but when the next level starts your back to the default). Leia...well you could be invulnerable since every other item enemies drop for her is a health sword (which increases your life gauge) or a large heart. Wicket is just there to take damage. His arrows are VERY VERY strong but he has so little life that you'll find yourself killed off a few times before you get the hang of him.
The levels are great but some of them get VERY repetative. On Tatooine you'll pass over the same landscape dozens of times and in the death star you'll certainly run across the same bridge and go about the same pattern several times.
The graphics in the game stand out at least. They aren't really better than The Empire Strikes Back they're more or less the same.
Overall: Return of the Jedi is a good game but the gameplay element holds it back a bit. It's a little too easy at times and the power-ups that Leia gets are an insult to what the difficulty of this game could've been.
Awesome. The legacy continues

This game rules. Improved graphics over the previous two in the series and Luke is pure cool. This would be the secoond best in the series. Towering over Empire while falling behind Star Wars. If you like fun, wholesome games this is for you.

Super Return of the Jedi is an action-platformer that continues the quality of fun set by the last two games. It follows the movie's storyline pretty well, with nicely detailed renderings of familiar locations, five playable characters, and John Williams' memorable score. As a movie-to-game translation, it's definitely one of the strongest of the 16-bit era.
Special mention must be made of the Mode-7 pseudo-3D stages. With the limited technology available to programmers at the time, they were quite inventive in pulling off the Speeder Bike chase, Millennium Falcon battles, and the final run into the Death Star. There's a nice handful of these levels scattered throughout the game, which mixes things up a bit between the regular 2D stages.
So is the game hard? Overall no, but it's a decent challenge depending on the difficulty level. The final 'escape from the Death Star' level does prove to be quite tricky though, and there are better characters to use in some levels over others.
A must-have for all Star Wars fans. None of the 2D attempts on the Game Boy Advance have come close to the quality of these games.
You will be a Jedi if you can beat this!

Though the graphics aren't as good as Empire Strikes Back, this is still a cool game. Very challenging.
Here's a tip:
select Chewy for the first level, because there's no other way to defeat the boss without a blaster. I tried to using Luke about fifty times, the lightsaber doesn't work, trust me.
Awsome, but not really like the movie!

This is a cool game, and I can agree with the guy who says that you can't be a Jedi if you don't beat this! Although it is not very much like the movie, I must say that you can see the simialarities in the game. I personaly like to use passcode cheats, so that I can explore new and unique levels. I am a classic gamer, and I can identify a great classic. This is definitely one of them! A side-scrolling arcade game, first person views on vehicles such as landspeeders, speeder bikes, and X-wings, and hard to beat challenges make it a SNES classic!

I remember playing this game years and years ago. Me and my cousin played this game for hours straight. This has got to be one of my favorite games for the SNES. It is a game that offers a good challenge but doesnt drive you insane. It's worth every penny and is a perfect addition to any Star Wars geeks collection.
