awesome gfx!

kof 99 is the best game i ever played. it was so cool i played it almost every weekend! the gfx was amazing and the sound really bites too. based on the kof trilogy (94-99), this game is the best. since kof 94-98 only 3 people were used to fight but on kof 99, well, there were 3 people fight and the fourth person otherwise known as the striker helps him or her team mates by backing out opponent's attack. even the moves were so fascinating than street fighter. and it has a slightly comedy makeup too, for example, when mai shiranui mets andy bogard, she will present him a baby puppet, andy was so horrified even his eyeballs were popping out from its' socket. overall, kof 99 is the best apart from it's cheesy ending boss, krizalid. i hope kof 2000 will be better than this.

too cheap to buy a NeoGeo CD?

Well, previously, if you were an SNK fan that didn't have a NeoGeo console, you were limited to awful Playstation ports and the occasional Game Boy game (ugh). Unless of course you shelled out the $$$ for the import Saturn version. Well, now you can have a mainstream system AND satisfy your SNK addiction with this great edition of KOF. Not truly KOF 99, merely a souped up version of 98 (though with the endless parade of KOF games, it doesn't matter what 2 digits you tack on to the end anymore), it delivers as good an experience as you could ask, outside of shelling out $200-$400 for an import NeoGeo console (or an MVS). So what if some people cast dispersions on 2D fighters (they're the ones that couldn't tell Terry Bogard from Humphrey Bogart), SNK is/was/always-will-be the standard for fighting game perfection (most of the time) in a way that these johnny-come-latelys simply will never be able to understand. So if Toshinden actually impressed you, perhaps KOF ain't your thing, but if you wanna graduate to "real gamer", instead of a wannabe, step up to the plate and see what the fuss is about. Thank you SNK.

The BEST KOF Game in the series!

This game is one of the best KOF has to offer. Not only it contains one of the best graphics, but it comes with excellent music, many characters to choose from and the fighting mechanics are the best i've ever seen. Even though there's not a storyline to match up with, the characters however have their own team ending. For example, if you choose Kyo Kusanagi, Iori Yagami and Chriszu Kagama (the team of KOF 97) there is a picture of them as a team. There are many, many team edits you can choose from and what i've seen, KOF 1998 tops KOF 2002 hands down! I highly recommend to people who are huge fans of the KOF series or who have just started, KOF 1998 is the way to go!

Dreamcast port of the fantastic King of Fighters 98 (despite what the title would have you believe)

Yes, this game is actually a port of the arcade game KOF98. Is that a bad thing? Not at all, in fact the real KOF99 is also available on Dreamcast as KOF Evolution so there's no need to worry about that.

This is one of the finer KOF titles and a fan favorite amongst many, it's also the last time you'll see the USA team in all their glory (as playable characters) so snatch this one up if you're a fan of Heavy D, Lucky Glauber, or Brian Battler.

The only complaint I have is that the arranged music is nothing spectacular, and because of its inclusion the game has repeated load times during the matches with constant music fade-ins and fade-outs. It's not nearly as seamless as the arcade experience, but it's not a purchase killer either. If this is your only means of obtaining KOF98, don't be put off and go ahead and score one of the finer renditions available.

One of the greatest 2d fighters out !!!!

I have played a lot of Snk fighters in my past I just never bought or own any of these game until I started buying fighting games for my Dreamcast system. I bought it not knowing about the Snk fighters series and I loved it and its so much fun. I only other time I played Snk fighters is in Capcom vs. Snk, its a great fighting game with tons of characters. My favorite characters are Terry Bogard, Robert Garcia, and Iori Yagami. They called it Dreammatch for a reason because their is a lot of characters of past Fatal Fury,Art of Fighting, and other Snk fighters. The best thing about this game is that their is so many moves and different styles to choose from. If you like Street Fighter you would probably like this game. This game does have some things that did bug me like having a dated background and some of the moves are too hard to do without a joystick. The background is that not big of a deal because you don't want it looking too good than you won't care that much about the fight. I would recommend this great fighting game any one who cares about 2d fighting and likes street fighter games.

Pros: great 2d fighting at its best, 38 characters, super moves do effective damage

Cons: dated backgrounds, you need a joystick
