Good if you like bloody fps, there's a large weapon selection etc. but overall a bit redundant and boring after a while.

Awesome first person shooter.

I bought this game second hand and got a very good deal on it. I'm not going to go onefor long, just tell you the basic good and bad. Well as you've probably heard, this game is very violent, but not too much over-the-top. I heard someone in a review before state that this game is "too realistic". It is very realistic indeed, but too realistic? Is that possible? If you shoot someone in the face with a shotgun in real life, there's not going to be too much left, if you don't like realism then stick to Mario Brothers. And for you real wussies out there, you can tone it down if you want.

The gameplay is realy slick, it's one of the those games that will have you shouting Bruce Willis lines at the computer everytime you bag a baddie. It really is all out action. However, as mentioned in other reviews, it is very linear. This is a little annoying at times as it makes it practically impossible to choose your own ways of doing things.

The graphics are great, but not the best now.

Altogether, if you lie first person shooters, then I'm pretty sure you'll love this. Oh, but if you don't like realistic violence, then look elsewhere!

Dont play on an empty stomic

I just got double Helix a few days ago. When I opened the box there was a warning stating that the game was realistically violent and it is intended for mature gamers; that's an understatement. This game is freaking violent and bloody. Limbs can be blown off, heads can be cut off, and internal organs can fly out of the body, and all this followed by a lot of blood. Putting that aside Double Helix is an average first person shooter. The story is very simple and there aren't any twists or turns making the story quite boring, but it moves the game along, so I'm not complaining. The graphics are average and could be better considering it came out farley recently. The game box clames it is a covert action game but after playing it for an hour or so, I realized it was pretty much a shoot'um up with very little strategy. You have a good armament to choose from but all the weapons are pretty basic, none of them are special. You can chose from an M4, a shotgun, a socom pistol, frag grenades, and the one and only OICW. Were have we seen that weapon before, oh yeha in Ghost Recon. Most of the game you are by your self but in a couple of levels you have some soldiers fighting beside you. Some of the controls are annoying and hard to use so you may want to reconfigure them. Double Helix is a good game, but should not be played by people under 14 years old. And since it is so cheap it is definitely worth it. Just remember to play on an empty stomach.

This is one gamer who began his military video gaming experiences with DF5: Black Hawk Down so when I was introduced to this title, I had some high hopes. Thankfully, the game does not entirely disappoint. I will say it is average when compared to Black Hawk's look and feel. It should be realized that this is a different game from a slightly different time. I'd say the graphics are comparable to Max Payne, the cut scenes anyway. Maybe slightly less well done but they pull it off well. If you go into it with that mindset, you'll be pleased. As for the gore that people comment on, why do you buy a game like this when what you expect is Candyland? Action games have action/violence/gore. That's why they're called FIRST PERSON SHOOTERS/ADVENTURE games. Nothing is too gorey. Play Postal 2 and follow it up with this one and settle down.

Perhaps my only gripe in this game is the fact that the enemies herein are incredibly tough SOBs. I've shot a bad guy point blank in the face with the .45 and watched him shrug it off like I slapped him with a wet noodle. What's up with that? I set the game for FULL VIOLENCE so I guess this just means that if I want to be more effective I have to empty an entire clip into him next time. Well ok.

Stealth also appears to be nearly impossible. How does a guy a block away hear me throw a knife into his buddy's neck, dropping him like a sack of potatoes. No screaming, cause like, he's got a blade in his jugular. Never mind it's raining like cats and dogs too. I guess I should just full tilt boogy and fire away from now on. Well, ok.

Decent graphics, NECESSARY gore, rock em sock em shoot em up bang bang. It's enough to make anyone lay down the dead presidents regardless.

Intense, enthralling FPS!

Violent, graphic, bloody. All of these are ways one could describe the intense FPS Soldier of Fortune 2: Double Helix in an accusatory sense. I don't, can't, and probably never will understand why, but, for some reason, some people can't indulge and enjoy the oh-so-sweet simulated graphic violence in some of today's various interactive pleasures. They can't appreciate the gurgling noise of a bullet entering a bad guy's jugular vein, the screaming effect when an enemy's arm is blown off with a shotgun, or the satisfying squelch that happens when the top of your target's head is blown into pieces with an assault rifle. I am here to praise the realistic gory aspects of this game, thank you very much! In all seriousness (and I can't stress this enough), it is a violent game. That is why I bought it. I think the violence should be appreciated for, if nothing else, the realistic effect. It pretty much simulates the effects of various gunshot wounds, instead of making the human form seem invencible and invulnerable. (That thought could lead to some very unfortunate accidents or misunderstandings.) In addition to the gore, there is also an interesting story line to go along with it, nice landscapes, and extremely long levels. This is a long game and might take up a good bit of your time (and disc space). Even on amateur level, this game is extremely difficult. Be sure to save often, and keep that body armor is good supply. The number of enemies waiting to tear you up is astronomical. The random mission generator can be played in addition to the main story game. The RMG allows for almost endless posibilities in terrain development and weapon selection; it is also a great place to practice if you have never played before. Also there is an internet multiplayer system that rivals Half-Life: Counter Strike. All in all, a great game with great replay ability. A definite 5 star FPS!

This is an incredebly adictive game. Online or of line, eather way its fun. The graphics are very good, smooth and life like. There are many wepons like the AK-74, USAS-32, M4 w/granadelauncher,USMILITARY sniper, ect. This game would imediatly come after counter-strike in online gameing. If you liked counter-strike and the first Soldier of Fortune, you will love Soldier of Fortune II Double Helix. This game is woarth every penny.

Because aside of the cool game play, great Jedi Knight II quality graphics and sound, very good AI, and both great sp and mp modes etc, the animated blood & gore + voilence in this game is too nasty. You can literally tear people apart by using just a knife to make their face a blood festival and just cut half of it off etc. It's nasty. And so are the blood sounds. They actuall BLEED when they fall to the floor. And limp when you shoot them in the leg. TOO REALISTIC! Besides that, it ran fine, especially with my new 9500 pro. I cranked up the resolution to 1024x768 and all other settings maximum and still ran like a smooth buttah. I don't suggest this game for gamers that can't take M rated quality gore & blood + animated voilence, or even AO quality, because this game is the nastiest game i have ever seen in my LIFE. I don't suggest this for every gamer...:/(although is a great game overall)

I bought this game 3 months ago due to the reviews listed here at Amazon.com and am still enjoying it. The GORE technology is awesome it makes the blood and gore more realistic. The graphics are very detailed (WARNING YOU WILL NEED A GOOD GRAPHICS CARD TO PLAY THIS GAME ON FULL GRAPHICS MODE). The enemy AI is also excellent sometimes a little to good, like throwing a grenade right at you, or seeing you behind foliage even while you are crawling. The game is full of action and does not stop. The missions are interesting but the plot is a little odd. The overall game play experience is AWESOME. I think this game is one of the year's best.

Not too bad... patch is a must

a pretty decent sequel to the previous hit. The most attractive aspect of the original game was to me the damage model where individual parts can be blown off and internal organs exposed. The new version however has improved on the idea by making the level of damage and dismemberment dependent upon the type of weapon used and the body part affected. The disappointing factor is that the although the enemy AI has been ramped up, they seem to possess some sort of body armor that makes them resistant to fire. Also the visible damage is a lot less although more accurately positioned. I like the ability to random generate missions which should give the game long term playability. There is also an extensive selection of multiplayer skins from terrorist, to combatant to tie wearing computer geeks. I have yet to play online as I am still addicted to Delta Force Land Warrior.

The Sequal is a let down

Sure the first Soldier of Fortune had much violence but it was also fun to play with much replay value. In this game you are stuck blowing most of the bad guys away from a distance so much of the fun from the first version of aiming for certain body parts is gone. The cross hairs now fire in the area that you are aiming rather than exactly where it points. When firing off a few rounds from a distance and aiming for a head you may hit them in the foot. I do not know if I have gotten more used to nicer graphics but I remeber the first Soldier of Fortune being crisper in detail. The smoke in this game is very sub par also. If this game looks interesting, get the first version gold edition. The first game did not have any stealth missions either which I am not interested in. At least you can take the baddies out with a knife in the staelth missions--I had to relaod way to many times. If you are looking for the most fun FPS out there right now go out and get Battlefield 1942--it is an excellen mix between Quake III Arena and Medal of Honor.
