Fun but too addicting

I played this game for several years... literally. I loved playing this game, but don't suggest it to anyone. The game requires so much of your time and attention that it encompases your life if you are not careful. I suggest keeping away from this game and any game of the MMORPG type. For the sake of your life and financial/educational sucess don't buy this game.

beyond my personal convictions against this game, this game is one of the greatest MMOs there are. It has been running for 7 years now and there is a reason for its continuing success. Don't let its age turn you away, the EQ world is constantly being updated and made more graphically beautiful. Many people liked this, but once they changed Nektulos Forest (one of my favorite zones) I was upset.

The range of characters you can create is almost endless. There are a lot of different races and classes to choose from and that makes the begining very interesting because you get to try everything out and find what you like best. To get to the higher levels it takes a lot of time and level grinding which can get very tedious. I never got my characters past level 53 because of this (the max level is 70). Most of the game is played in a group and usually requires this unless you are a solo class like necromancer, bard, etc.

Making friends makes the game a whole lot more enjoyable. A big reason these games are so successful is because of the social aspect. One reason I quit is because all of my friends moved on to other MMORPGs that I couldn't play on my computer.

It really is a unique experience that I have not seen any other MMO match. If you can balance an extremely addictive game with a good balanced life, this game is for you.

You will spend half of your time in this game waiting because the game is designed for you to wait to recover your ability to cast spells and to heal your character. The game also has many bugs in it which makes gameplay very frustrating.

Just manage your time properly

It's really silly to harp on a game because someone with a compulsive personality plays it too often. Obviously the game is good, or no one would play it for so many hours on end. Granted, it is sad when a person looses so much time in such a way. It isn't the game that is at fault here though, the game itself is outstanding and has been going for years now with no end in sight. This is a plus to many of us who can manage our time properly and not forget about the real world out there. There is actually another expansion due out in mid September, which I am very much looking forward to.
As for this version in particular, it runs fine and I highly recommend it! It may of had some problems running about a year ago, but it's good to go now.

A great game, with lax tech support.

The tech support does leave much to be desired, however, the overall gameplay is very good. You don't have a mmorpg go 5 years+ by being crappy. And as for Paisley, maybe you might've tried playing with him occasionally, you contemptable harpy? Granted, that much time is excessive, but it probably would've seemed less like nagging and more like guidance if you'd actually gone along on the ride now and again. It's not a bad game. I play with my husband, and we have fun, and still have time for our afternoon walk.

Step 1: NO LIFE 101

If you never want to have a significant other buy this game NOW!
I nearly divorced my husband over this POS. Thank GAWD he has more than 1/2 a brain & saw his compulsive tendencies could not manage such a terrible waste of time & chose his family over this mess. We're talking 11 hours passing by like it's a minute people. There is even a support group for the people who've lost loved ones to this scourge.
This game has NO END folks. Buy a freaking game with AN END!!!!! SO YOU CAN HAVE A FREAKING LIFE!
I guess this thing would be ok for someone who'd like to explore what it's like to be crippled, or terminally ill & has no family or friends to think of. Maybe it'd make a good game for dire enemies....
If so, have at it.
But be warned, this game is trouble for those with any sort of compulsive/addictive behaviors in their past----leading to a high probability of losing family, friends & relations w/your significant other.
You've been warned.

The Ultimate Time Sink

I started playing in 1998. They have a little feature in game that will tell you how 'old' your character ('toon) is. I remember when I looked at the 'age' of the character and saw 70 days. 70 days!? 70 days * 24 hours/day = 1,680 hours. What a tragic waste of valuable time in my life.

I pulled the plug. Lo and behold, I worked harder at work and was promoted not once, but twice. I met a woman and got married. I remodeled my basement/garage.

Do not bother with this game. The longer you play, the more demanding on your time it is. LIVE LIFE!

Game runs fine, but why the hype?

First of all, to adress a previous reviewer: I have Windows XP and I've had zero problems running the game. It takes a bit to start up, but the gameplay itself is fine.

However, after listening for years to all the hype about Everquest, I'm very disappointed. I find this game to be really boring. I just don't see what the fuss is about.

I am currently getting ready to buy a 2nd EQ platnum. The first I bought from another retailor and it works find b arring me getting to understand it as I am used to another game which I played exclusively for 2+years.The only problem I encountered with EQ was that it took 3 days to download all the patches before I could play it for the first time.I used to play neverwinter nights and the tech wasn't compatable with my brand new computor with the latest tech so I changed. I found that it will take some getting used to and am gratefull for the tutorial
area they provide.
