Best. Simpsons. Game. Ever.

If you're a fan of the show, skip this review because you either 1) already own the game or 2) are going to buy it regardless of what the agnst-ridden teenage reviewers on Amazon write about it. Why? Because it features the full Simpsons cast, too many characters to count, and 37 original Simpson short clips.

For non-Simpsons fans, the concept is a lot of fun, but the gameplay can get boring at times. You work with characters and their special abilities to solve puzzles and beat challenges in each level. It's pretty easy, except the controls, like most 3D games, can drive you nuts at certain times. The camera is downright horrible in a handful of places. The visuals are very similar to the show, and the short clips (movies) are spot-on. Most of the later missions are clever parody, though pretty repetitive gameplay.

Update: After a few weeks of playing, I have to say I enjoyed myself, even though I found myself yelling at the television when I couldn't figure out my next move or time a jump exactly right. I adjusted the sensitivity of the X and Y axis on the controller, and that seemed to make a big difference. Co-op play was a clever addition to give the game a good amount of replay value. In fact, co-op is where the game shines. Playing with a partner is literally twice the fun. For the most part, the challenges are entertaining, and the script is a riot. Sure, the first couple of levels are a little too easy, but the game really picks up by the fourth mission. If you're bored early, give it a chance, the game definitely comes around.

I'm a huge Simpsons fan, and so far, the game has met all of my expectations. If I were not a Simpsons fan, I think this game would be more of a renter or a used-buy. It will crack everyone up, fan or not. The short clips are great, and a lot of the in-game dialogue (with the original cast) is witty and comical.

And, I don't want to spoil anything, but if you're still on the fence, let me utter these two words to help you make up your mind:

Mr. Sparkle.

I love this game!

I think this game is a blast! The camera angle can drive me nuts at time but that wouldn't keep me from recommending this game! The only other bad thing I can say about it is the split screen for 2 players is side-by-side and that makes the screen too small for my tastes, lol. There was only 1 or 2 levels that 2 player almost was a must though. I did use a walkthrough guide a few times when I had no idea what to do...just google simpsons game walkthrough Wii and use the 1st choice in the results! I almost have it beat and then I will definitely play it again....and I am not much of a gamer, lol. There is some mild swearing in this game too!

A Lot More "Woo Hoo!" Than "D'Oh!"

As an avid gamer I'm always hesitant about licensed games but the Simpsons fan in me overrode my common sense, and thank god it did. While the game falls under fairly traditional platform game fair the puzzles are actually really well thought out. Using the two characters available to you per level you will be tasked with harnessing each member of the Simpsons family skills to advance. Something I found to be a lot of fun on my own but quickly became extra awesome with a friend. The comedy is spot on and all of the voice actors loan their talents to make the game feel like an episode of the TV show. The only major gripe I have is the typical platform game camera that rarely points in the right direction without your hands on control. Definitely worth the d'oh!

The Simpsons Game was a relatively fun game. It has an interesting storyline and challenges some to an extent. I rate it four stars because I thought it was a good game and it involves the Simpsons, along with other negative aspects. One of those negative aspects are the camera angles, as written in almost all of these reviews. They are bad and move often. It reminds me of Mario 64. Another reason it is not as good as it could have been is Marge. She really brings the game down. Her special move is getting people to side with her. That is dumb. One of your missions with her is to clean up a ghetto. A friend of mine wanted to see the game and that was a mission I haven't done. Needless to say, we were both bored out of our minds and he never wants to see or play this game ever again. I changed his mind after I showed him a different mission, however. I just beat the game by the way. That is another reason it is not that great. It only took me a week even though I am very busy with school and work, leaving me with no time for video games. I wish it was a bit more challenging. Some parts are challenging due to camera angles and just plain getting stuck. It gets annoying. But all in all, I enjoyed myself while playing. I will definitely go back to the old missions and collect some things missed through-out the game. Oh, and the mini-games are kinda fun.

Kind of difficult

This was a fun game, although it was kind of difficult, even for my video game addict brothers. I noticed the game was in the Wii and about 20 minutes later it was out. They said it was too hard.

Not quite what you would expect...

I have watched The Simpsons for many years, and was looking forward to playing this game. However, it wasn't quite what I expected. The gameplay was boring and easy; thought bubbles tell you when you need to switch characters and little lights basically let you know where you need to go to advance the story. Enemies are too easy to defeat, and this game lacks any real challange. I would say it was designed for children, except that it has some adult jokes and references in it.

The animation is fantastic, as are the sound and music. The dialogue is is entertaining, and sometimes it makes you feel as though you are watching the show. There are also many inside jokes and references that fans of the show will enjoy.

A good game to rent if you are bored, but you probably don't want to waste more than $29.00 on it, if you buy it.

many good points but execution falls down

I am a relatively new gamer, but a HUGE Simpson's fan and so was very excited about this game. I tried it out, and while it is way cool that they got the real voice actors to do the voices for the characters and the in between videos, and the graphics are also really cool (the characters look almost exactly like they do in the show); I was very disappointed. The main problem is that the game play is extremely difficult. To be clear, it isn't that the game itself is hard, but rather that the camera angle makes it really hard and extremely frustrating to play the game: it seems to always be in the wrong place. Another flaw (from a Wii perspective) is there is very little use of the Wii remotes capabilities. The later is forgivable given that it is a multi-platform game, but the previous is not forgivable (especially from someone like EA), if they had the camera placed correctly the game would be far less frustrating and much more enjoyable.

In short I am glad I was able to try the game out and not have to buy it. It might be worth it to me (for the Simpson's value alone) if the game was $20 dollars or so.

Fun in spots, but very frustrating

I think the developers just took on way too much to create a game that really works well. There are some parts that are very fun, but in general this game is way too frustrating. The camera has serious problems and creates situations in which you can't see what you need to do. Just when you think the game is over, it continues on with some bigger than mini-games which could have been games all on their own. Maybe if the developers didn't try to do so much, they could have worked out some of the kinks and made this a really great game. It certainly has the potential.

Meh

I was excited because it was a new Simpsons game. They went through all this trouble to animate cut scenes and to get the actors voices. But the graphics of gameplay and in general the challenge and fun of gameplay are lacking. Wished so much more for this.
