A Bit Shallow

This game has riveting action and does attempt to convey the feeling of being in the middle of the Vietnam war. What prevents it from being excellent is that it tends to be repetitive. For instance, the mission where you enter the temple to kill the hated VC general is overwrought - it's the same type of firefight over and over again. The enemy AI is good, not spectacular; they tend to march forward in a line like zombies. There were too many times when I just got tired of killing enemies. It requires some creative thought, not alot. If your only going to play one Vietnam game, play the Conflict version instead.

Just as good as any other crappy linear game

There are swamp, rice pattys, villages. The missions are poorly conceived pieces of stuff, it is also very, very, very linear to the point that they don't hide it like in any other video game. The enemy is not changeling (the NVA would hide and not have big hats). The enemies come in two flavors those that just stand there oblivious that they have to move to avoid your shoots and those that run towards you.

There's an interactive Base Camp where you can talk go around and do a whole lot of nothing, except boom-boom, get some illegal drugs, shot your weapons, and the "boom-boom" is stupid and has no gameplay/fun/replay value.

The Graphics are realistic graphics they have a grainy texture to them, This is cool some of the time and if it were a better game (aka open ended with brighter/more hidden enemies this would be cool. The death animations are so unbelievable you'll laugh at them (not that I admire the death scenes in any video game). And the cutscenes are vile and pointless (due to the pointless violence)

I would say that the controls are easy to learn and that there's a easy learning curve, but then again (no bragging/pun/'I'm better that you', because were all equal :) I have played a lot of games and know how to easily learn all the control schematics of the games that I play.

ShellShock has one of the least realistic damage to the main character than from any game that I've played. Your health bar regenerates over time, so all you have to do is go to a safe point and wait for 10 seconds.

This game is a best a $10.00-$5.00 meant to be picked up in the bargain bins. You probably should Rent or buying at the price I mentioned in the last sentience anything more is a waste of money.

WHATS WITH THE BOOM BOOM THING!

Good game but the "Boom-Boom" is useless. It is kinda like a horror game as there are alot of severed corpses, heads, body parts.
whats with the crazy half-nude suicide soldiers that run into everyone and blow up.Its fun taking that RPG7 and blowing up enemies into gibz,or killing civilians for fun-especialy shooting them in the stomach where they just wimper until they collapse to the floor dead. Most fellow soldiers can`t die if they are part of the story like Tick Tock,The Gunner,Phycho and Lt.O`neil but others can besides all these men have a certain death anyway(Phycho will die by the horhouse after getting blown u).
I tried to save a certain person from dying-He was Gardner the guy that walked into the spike-trap after being a smartazz and rushing a head of everyone,I nearly saved him but we both stepped into it-So i guess Gardner will have to die in that spiketrap whatever i do.
the games short about 10 missions.
whats with the BoomBoom you don`t see anything it does not affect your soldiers status,it costs from 30-60 CHITS to hire them-when they all teh same yet it cost about 20 Chits to enter the friggin place.
bye

A really good game.

I make two reviews per game, one after i begin it and,two when i finish it.
Here are ShellShock:`Nam `67(SSN67) details.

CONSOLES:PC,PlayStation 2 & XBox.
RELEASE:2004(quite young)
RATINGS:ESRB(M-Mature),BBFC=18+,PEGI=18
CONTENTS:PEGI=Violence,Bad Language,Sextual themes and horror aspects.
QULIFYABLE FOR PLATINUM:No,i don`t think so,usually good games released a year before, go PLATINUM it apparently never hit sales of over 1 million copies sold.

This game is good but nothing great,Its a Military War-shooter/RPG so you are shooting, doing mission objectives when on a mission, when you have freetime, you are at a U.S. Army Base Camp and you could exchange weapons, listen to the DJ spin you a `60s song,or make announcements,or you could meet a hucker and shakk up with her in her bedroom, the sameway you do in GTA:Vice City except you don`t pick her up in a car,you meet her(this Sextual content is CENSORED,you here them but do not see them) or you could buy someit off that guy,or just talk to soldiers/nurses who are off duty.

CHARACTERS:

YOUR SOLDIER:Yes a future VietNam veteran who has been drafted to fight the VC/NVA communists soldiers, oddly enough he never speaks, just like FIDO in GTAIII does not even mumble,or scream at pain,i heard he never sleeps or eats, one weird guy.

Lt. O`Brien:
Your beginning leader,he leads you until is death, that ofcoarse is when a Nam VC shoots him.

GARDNER:He is there until Mission 2 where he acts tough at the beginning of a mission and runs a head of you but when you and the platoon reach the swamp,he ends here,he walks into a V.C. booby trap,(Well he steps onto the SPIKEWALL "button" and it as quick as lightning swings out a pine wall with knives stickin` out and he gets stabbed).

GUNNER:he is your Special Forces promotor and MENTOR he teaches you stealth and gives you a new uniform and a CQC knife to slit throats,he dies after you blow up some tank when he gets rocketed before entering a Army chopper.
Tick Tock:Ramirez`s(AKA Gunner) best friend he is after Gunner on the S.F. thing. He dies with Gunner

PHYCHO:
He lives up to his name he is on his way to the `Nam he talks about killing his enemies,on two occasions he executes his prisoner; The first one XEQts is a V.C. soldier who he kicks while that soldier is begging "Please Not hurt me,please no" Phych kicks him to the ground angrilly, for shooting their chopper down he shoots the VC in the head. The 2nd time he has a woman VC in a knife-chokehold interigating her "She tells him where two G.I. are" after she spits the info. out he slits her throat anyway. His death comes when he gets a knife thrown at his chest, and begging you to shoot him to avoid the VC plessuring his death, before you can he gets rocketed to bits.
SHORTIMIMER:
a kid who is behind you at missions. We don`t know what happens after the end.

Missions similarities:
the missions are long enough and fun,but not enough of them i completed this game in approximately 3 days, playing after school, and alday to they infact i only finished it half an hour ago(total hours approximately:25 hours altogether) there are 12 missions five as a rookie and 7 as a S.F. Soldier.
The one where you have to kill Diem the VC general "the executioner/King Kong" is very similar to killing Diaz in GTA:Vice City hense the similar name,in GTAVC you have to brak into Diaz`s mansion kill his bodyguard gang and kill him,and then a movie comes up where Diaz is uncontious on the floor and Vercetti and Lance both put pistols to his head,BOOM he is dead,In SSN67 when you kill the VC soldiers you then eliminate Dian it shows your charicter and your platoon with Dian on a table, uncontious then your soldier takes out a Machetti and slices him into pieces.

ENVIRONMEENT:Environments are nice, the jungle is okay war-torn streets are good,Basecamp is realish the two indoor levels POW castle and horehouse are very un-detailed but okay.
The environment is always Hostile on missions,But since Dian love execution,he leave dead boddies on the floors, hangs corpses on trees and buildings, sticks his victims heads` on poles etc.

overall is a good game very gritty graphics for the violent themes sake but too short,if they make another ShellShock make more missions

I`m am going to trade it in and buy another game with its £8 i might get,i would keep it but i won`t play it again and it will dust to the back of my shelves.But i am not angry with the game or hate it i liked it but its a game that i`d finish and never play it,because its not really an addictive game not like MGS serieas,i got it in a 2 for £20 offer in GameStation UK with Metal Gear Solid 3 Snake Eater(a better game in my opinion ) but since i have lended out MGS3 to someone wants to try it so imy favorate game had to be ShellShock:nAM 67 THIS WEEKEND.But i am not angry about finishing it there are plenty of iother military bases games ot there i am going to try whether its Third Person Shooter of First Person Shooter i would like to try these series;

The CONFLICT series.
The GHOST RECON series
The SOCOM series

MEDAL OF HONOR series
CALL OF DUTY Series
BROTHERS IN ARMS series.

I will try them all but i have my eye on the TPS games(third person shooter) game as the three i mentioned all have squad in teractivivities

Squad Control:Is when you can switch to a teammate in your platoon for a certain job he/she could be aquired to(i.e. Sniper,CQC expert, bomb defusal ect. ShellShock does not have squad interativities.

Squad Command:You are one soldier but you can give orders to your team platoon.

SSN67 may not have any sort of Squad control/command like its rivals but your team was still quite useful, they cover you during an objective, but CAN`T die, unrealistic but its useful.

Bye. now try this game of any game series i mentioned if you like military games.

"The horrors Of war/"The joy of blowing your SonOfagun enemies into PIECES!"

This is afun game,for mostthings.
The game is set in 1967,"When the `Nam war,was still young",you are a soldier from the U.S. Army,G.I. Green Beret and you are sent to VietNam to eliminate the VC(VietCong) and the NVA(North VietNam Army),whoever you are this,is no easy war, game not like older last generation(PS1,N64,DreamCast) TPS/FPS games(Third Person Shooters/First Person Shooters),wher you enemy`s A.I. was not that good, and you could expose yourself alot,Killing enemy soldiers in ShellShock:`Nam `67 is very gruesome, gritty but fun,if blast a soldier with a rocket launcher he/she will be in bits physically.speaking of he/she,remember in most games where ALL of your enemy guards were MEN,In SS:N67 you also have to deal with women, who are usually armed with an AK-47/M-16A rifle, and no they are not easy on EASY mode one VC woman shot my(soldier) head off,but both men and women soldiers are the same, only obviously look different. This is true women, and children as well as men fought in the VietNam war,as Infantry soldiers, wher in the U.S./British Army, women don`t join the Infantry(well yet,as it could happen one day,no matter how much Sexism is thrwn at them),but `Nam actually won that war.

GAMEPLAY 8.5/10:
Fun GP,especially the enemy soldiers who are challenging, and smart, this game is a third person shooter(TPS),so shooting isn`t that easy, mindlessly blowing VC/NVA soldiers into pieces with a rocket launcher, arm, leg and head are all seperated by metres,There is one seperation from most other War/shooter games, you are allowed to slaughter civilians, its cruel but you can do so,on Mission 2 wher you have to look for any hidden weapons i shot a civilian in the stomach, she started trying to easy the pain by pressing on it,she then started "throwin up" then i heard he crying when i went of to look for another weapon stash and came back she was, well dead and my comrades only said when she died "Sir,thats a civilian you shot, there, you shouldn`t" no punishments,or mission failtures,or no points taken off me.It is a war game but you only have control over one soldier, despite your comrades who fight with you,but thats easier, and the A.I. ran comrades are helpful, and can not die(unrealistic, but i like it),other things too.the only thing i don`t like about gameplay is you can not run up anything, like rocks or mountains.(Also you can kill animals which is fun like birds and farm animals).
SOUND:Sound is realistic, and funny, like when your soldier,or comrades swear at the enemies,or the female soldier screaming "G.I." in there accents.guns sound realistic enough,to like.Theres also music when you are at the Base Camp, that was made around the VietNam times,it gives you the feeling that it is morning time,as well as the birds singing.

GRAPHICS:7.9/10
The graphics are like Splinter Cell`s graphics, but its a very gritty, bloodie, gruesome violent game so when you watch a movie sequince it is not in full colour, very dull, the graphics are good though.

A.I. :8/10
Your comrades have good Artifisial Intelligence,so they are considerally helpful when you are against large amounts of enemies, say you are between them they also shield you,and sinse they can`t die, they only fall on the floor for a moment and respawn, you have no squad control,so you don`t make their decisions, but your soldier is their leader,so they follow you,but if you are in huge conflict bits, like Mission 3(Which i am stuck on) they leave you,and go against the Nams which is dangerous because you can be slaughtered by other Enemy soldiers in seconds, but when this happens i usually stay with my squad, and follow them, then do my Objectives.Enemy A.I. is alrigt, you can sneak up on them, and shoot them, but they can shhot there guns, but they never follow you they shoot you from their posts,if not move down a little nearer.so A.I. is good.

any predecessors/sequals or prequals?!
This is the first game of SHELLSHOCK,I do hope another one comes out set in the Cold War,or one of the World Wars,Gulf War I,or if possible the still remaining Gulf War II(2003-PRESENT),i don`t know if it has any pedessors, but there was one game on PS One called ShellShock,i don`t know if it is related to this.

COMPETION:In general this is a Militar War/shooter game so its compared not to Military war-Stealth games like MGS or SC,but compared to other war games,it looses on the fact that most of its TPS genre rivals have squad command/control,where as this is a militar war-shooter TPS with a team wich you don`t Control/command on your comrades, but it is more with FPS games(First Person Shooters) as when i recieved this game,it said on the back "`Next To Nam `67 Medal Of Honor looks like a fluffy bunny duck shooter" which was a statement made by PSM(PS2 magazines) when it was released,so yeah it is compared with FPS games.
But really its main competition of them is Conflict(specifically Conflict:VietNam) games, which is a clean version of this, with squad Conrol in it.I list all its military War-shooter enemies(FPS or TPS)

Third Person Shooters:
The CONFLICT series.
The GHOST RECON series
The SOCOM series

First Person Shooters:
MEDAL OF HONOR series
CALL OF DUTY series
BROTHERS IN ARMS series(Specifically this is definatly a SSN67 rival)
BATTLEFIELD series(specifically BF:VietNam)
RAINBOW 6 series?
and yes i know there are others, but these are other Military war-shooter games i know, whether they are TPS or FPS they all rival each other,All of them at least one of each of series mentioned i have played, and i recomnmend them to Military War-shooter fans, but everone who reads this should have heared of/played/or got any of the games i mentioned.
Why is this not going to go PLATINUM,it has alot of good ratings only 2 or three bad ratings?

When i bought it:Its not too expensive i got it in a "2 for £20" offer with Metal Gear Solid 3:Snake Eater(Snake Eater is better,i have to say because i love MGS seeries) but i have lended out Snake Eater to someone who, likes the sound of MGS3 so my favorate game this weekend is ShellShock:Nam `67.

bYE.

My Second War Game

Shellshock Vietnam is a game I thoroughly enjoyed. It attempts to depict the horrors and the atrocities committed in this controversial war. I am sure it dose not even come close to the real thing, but this is the closest the majority of us will ever get.

Previous reviewers have made negative comments about the game, complaining that the graphics are dull, that there was unnecessary blood and gore and inappropriate sexual themes which should not be included in a game based on this unstable period in America's history. First off, I'd like to correct these people. I have read from veterans who fought in Vietnam. One veteran described how he still had nightmares of someone screaming the dreadful word 'incoming', and how a second later after hearing that one word, how all his people he sided with during the war would just be blown to pieces around him by these mortar attacks, body parts literally raining down on top of him. So, there is nothing wrong showing what these men had to face during the war. In fact, the game could have improvised on this aspect. As for sexual themes, ha! Soldiers of this war would take R&R trips to Thailand just for that purpose. In fact, many Thais blame Americans for introducing prostitution to their country as a solution to poverty.

The graphics could have been better, I suppose, but I did not think it was that bad. The grainy effect could get on some people's nerves.

It is true that in most missions you must follow the script that the director intended for you to follow, for there is usually only one path to tread. There is only one mission that I remember that is more exploratory once your character enters `Special Forces.'

The Vietnamese seemed stupid, literally running right into the line of your fire. I also don't think so many of them should scream out threats in English. I am sure, in combat, they did most of their talking with their AKs, so generously supplied to them by the Chinese.

It is too bad your platoon consisted of only four men.

Other than these few factors, it is still enjoyable if you just like to chew your way to victory in a spray of bullets. The story is kind of like a mix of both the movie Platoon and Apocalypse Now, where you and your men are hunting down this man who the Vietnamese worship like a God, except in this game this individual is a Vietnamese general, not an American. Throughout your whole brutal experience in the war, the Vietcong keeps ambushing your people before you even get a shot off, and you eventually discover that someone in camp is a spy for the NVA. Your Lieutenant gets decapitated in battle and an individual from the South Vietnamese Army becomes point man for your squadron, and he has a gruesome, but effective way on how to make spies talk. So, this is a great game if you ask me.

PS: The mission where you must locate the journalist is a no brainer. I don't know why people are so confused. Just locate all the hidden weapon stashes by throwing grenades into the hay stacks and one of the civilians will attempt to run. Shoot him, as you were ordered. Then all the captive villagers will attempt to run. Kill them all and Monty will tell you which direction to go. No problem.

c'mon guys

first off i'd like to say i'm very interested in military history and the vietnam war in peticular. i really love vietnam movies (platoon, apocalypse now, full metal jacket, deer hunter, etc) and i like a lot of war games, too.

alright i've only had this for about two days and i'm on the third level but already its not as bad as people say it is.

its not perfect but i actually think its better than conflict: vietnam

its definetly better for gameplay and graphics.

although i like conflict: vietnam i think at points it was a bit unrealistic. like the russian roulette level for example.

this game may turn out to be the same, but so far it seems to be alot more accurate and i have to say that overall this is a better game.

-ratt fink

I personally loved it.

Some of the things y'all are saying are just plain crazy. It was everything I expected, and more. My only gripe is that it's too short, but I'll the next one, if there is one. I'm assuming you folks found the reporter by now, but if not there's a path by the field with the cow in it (it says you're going AWOL, until you find all the weapons caches), with a booby trap along it. Follow it down and he's in a hut in a clearing.
