Haze is Clear

Now that all the hype has waned and we've seen how the "professional" reviewers totally blasted this title, the real gamers can get in there and actually tell people the real story. This game is what I'd refer to as a standard shooter. It's not revolutionary, but it's not anywhere near as bad as some people say. The only thing that bothers me about this game is the spoken dialogue. It is incredibly cheesey and corny. That aside, I'd say the game is just about on par with Halo 3 in terms of graphics and gameplay. I'm sure the fanboys will be lambasting me for saying that, but I think it's true. Also, the multiplayer is quite satisfying. It works very well and is very stable (compared to Turok's). Graphically, I think this game looks pretty sweet. The foliage in the jungle is dense and detailed. It's not as good as Crysis in that the leaves and grasses don't sway in the wind or bend as you pass by, but it still looks good. Much of the environment is destructible. The weapons look and feel good, and the sound effects are spot on. The campaign is pretty standard fare. The vehicles are pretty standard fare. Overall, it's a good game. It's not great, like COD4 or Gears, but it gets the job done. If you enjoy shooters, you will most likely enjoy Haze. If you're not sure, just rent it and you'll be convinced.

Very Entertaining!!!

Haze didn't live up to all the hype surrounding it, but it is still a very fun FPS. The visuals aren't up to par with other shooters coming out soon, and the AI isn't great at times, but overall Haze's gameplay mechanics are top notch.

If you like FPS's get this game. You won't be disappointed. The key is to really get into the mindset of Mantel and Nectar and you will enjoy the game even more. The story is actually rather good when you do this.

Multiplayer is very fun too!! Flawless online co-op through the campaign and online deathmatch, etc. is very, very fun. The best thing about it is that it is free!! Go PS3!! A console that actually believes that when you pay hundreds of dollars you should get to play online for free!!

Overall, this is a must buy if you have the money!!

Haze needs another year...

After all the delays and the hype I must say Haze is a bit of a disappointment. This game feels incomplete and buggy almost like it was still in beta stages. I found that it takes a few minutes for a cut scenes to take place and by that time your so confused as of whats going on that you've lost all interest. The AI is dumb and incoherent they get in your way and don't provide any support when attacking enemies. The dialogue and story aren't something to brag about either. The dialogue sounds like it was written by a drunk frat boy and you'll find some notorious lines will be repeated at least a hundred times throughout the game which gets annoying "YEAAA BOOYYYY!!!". Gun varieties are lacking and graphics are mid ps2 and ps3 generation. This game has not broken any new grounds for FPS's and fails to impress.

This might have been a good launch title a for the PS3, but not a year and a half later. When I first saw the game trailer I thought "Wow!!! this will be a awesome game." Needless to say, I was a little disappointed. There is nothing that Haze brings to the table that has not been done in other FPS. The game play to me seems a little sluggish, down trodden, and borish. The environments seem to lack any real details. The characters are cliche. We as gamers dropping $65.00 for game expect a little more bang for our buck. Buy this as a used game or off the internet at a discounted price.

overhyped garbage

At one point in the game an enemy shot a barrel near me causing me to catch fire. The on screen prompt said to shake Sixaxis to extinguish the flames. No mater how gently or violently I shook, twisted or moved the controller could I put out the fire. To make matters worse, I had just passed a checkpoint, so every time I died and respawned, I was on fire. After ten minutes of this, I restarted the level and learned not to play with fire.
This scenario was very commonplace. Set on fire, die and try over. Just one of the glitches in a horribly buggy game. Terrible A.I., Horrendous voice acting which doesn't even match up in co-op, forgettable story and bland under texturized graphics. In all fairness I did find some fun in the game. Great moments like defending the villiage in the chopper or the assault on the landcruiser had me buzzing momentarily but were too short lived.
I would probably give maybe one more star but the frustrations and the hope I had for the game crushed that.

Huh? This game is great fun

I recently played this game with a friend and we had a great time playing the Muliplayer and "Dual" screen campaign mode. The game was challenging enough and the controls, sound, backgrounds were great. I would agree that the AI seems to be odd at times, but the game itself is a lot of fun and was not just another "shooter". Give the game a try before you decide it's fate.

After all the hyped announcements (Halo killer for PS3 yadda yadda blah blah) and the year of postponement I am just stumped...
Since I don't want to waste too much time on this junk I will keep this review short.
To put my review in perspective: I won both a PS3 as well as a 360, I play Halo3, COD4, GRAW/2, Gears of War mostly.

Naturally I was hoping for a PS3 alternative to the XBOX's Halo series and that is what Haze touted to be.

The negatives:
- Graphics: these graphics are NOT worthy of the PS3. The characters and maps lack realism, textures are anno 2-years-ago. How dare they sell this as state of the art graphics.

- The controls and gameplay overall is slow paced and with awkward controls. Online games were quickly abandoned because they are lame and without action.

- Storyline: lots of useless, uninspired cinematic sequences with mediocre voice acting.

Pros: NONE I can think of.

Solid waste of 60$ for something that should be sold for 20$ on PS3 online.

Man I had high hopes for this game (and I know I'm not the only one). What a disappointment...don't let the awesome screenshots fool you; this game is basically a very poor Halo imitation. In fact, to compare it to Halo isn't even fair. I played through the campaign mode (which won't take you very long) hoping the game would eventually get better. It didn't. Awful AI plagues the game with brainless enemies and worthless squadmates. Bland, repetitive gameplay throughtout makes the game get old very quickly. The vehicles seem like an aferthought and don't add much to the game at all. There are a couple of cool action sequences but these are few and far between. The game does have some ok graphics (except for the lame explosions) but really doesn't use the PS3's potential. In the end it's just a below average game with nothing unique about it. Rent it maybe, but definitely don't waste your money buying it. Besides, it'll probably be in the bargain bin in a few months anyway.

Be Patient and It's Fun

My first experience of Haze was this: I open the amazon package and pop the game into my ps3. I start up an online match, just to see what it was like before I actually learned how to play. My character spawns right outside of a big building. I see a rocket launcher and I walk forward to go and pick it up. About halfway there to the rockets, the game crashes and I have to shut off my ps3.

By anyone's standards, this is not a good start.

Here are the pros and cons of Haze, now that I am a seasoned player who has beaten the campaign and participated in many online matches:

Pros:

-The variety of weapons gives you a nice selection on how to kill your opponents, whether you want to burn them, knife them, grenade them, or just plain shoot the hell out of the them with a minigun.
-Multiplayer matches always have good connection
-4 player co-op campaign is really fun no matter how many times you've played that level or if its the same people every time
-Shooting your teammates in the back causes them to overdose, and you won't know what an overdose is until you buy the game, but pretty much it's one of the funniest things in any game, unless a teammate does it to you...then it sucks
-Your character looks funny when he jumps.

Cons:

-The game crashes an average of once a day (I only play about an hour a day, so this is a lot)
-My online stats from the day before get deleted about every other time i start up the game. I once got 26 kills without dying and I was so proud of it, until the next day when it didn't save it on the online stats page.
-Your teammates think it's funny to shoot you in the back, so always choose the "rebels" team.
-The rebels suck, so choose the "troopers" team.
-There are only two teams.
-6 multiplayer maps can only keep you interested for so long
-In almost every campaign level, going through it the first time, I got stuck and couldn't find a way through to the next part of the level.
-Cut scenes are way too long and you can't skip them. I once went to the bathroom, got a snack to eat, and came back to find that the cut scene still was not over

Despite the number of cons vs. pros, Haze is a fun game. You just have to be patient. Four player co-op is the most redeeming part of Haze, because with four friends running around instead of one, you a 4x greater chance of find the way to proceed to the next area. I have fun playing this game, and I don't care what anyone rates this game or what anyone tells me, I am going to keep playing this game.

I feel that the hype that was built up in the media and with the companies that created it, was in fact to much hype. The game in my opinion did not reach anywhere near the "greatness" that was all over the advertising for it. Would I ppurchease the sequel if it were released?...Only after renting it first this go around. I will not purchase the sequel without a test run.
