Way to difficult

This was purchased for my son as a gift. He is 10 and a wiz with his X Box 360 games. This game is not playable for him. The tutorial does not EXPLAIN how to make manuevers, it just tells you to "Maintain level Flight". Okay, how do we do that? How about some on screen examples? He's 10, he's not going to read the manual. Ace Combat folks need to remember:

K.I.S.S.

Keep
It
Simple
Stupid.

no directions included

You'd think after you spent almost $[...] that they would give you some idea how to operate it. No instructions included except a little review on the box if you want to sit there with a box on your lap. What ever happened to giving you an operating manual or direction book with a product. I will never waste my money on something like this again. If I would have known there are no instructions, I wouldn't have bought it. Hope the manufacturers read these things and take note.

Incredible Graphics.... and a ton of crash bugs. Hold off a few weeks.

I've always been a huge Ace Combat fan, I think I probably played through Ace Combat 5 fifty times, so when this came out I was pretty excited. Sadly while what little of the game I've seen is incredible visually, it has some major bugs. Notably that it crashes every... 5-10 minutes. Typically I get maybe 5 minutes into the first mission, but I've had it glitch as early as the plane selection screen. On the whole pretty depressing. Now its possible I've gotten a bad disk, but judging by some reviews on other sites (IGN notably) there are others with the same issue.

I'd suggest waiting at least a few weeks to pick it up, otherwise your risking unplayability.

Flightstick not worth it.

Some of the reviews of the AC6 Flightstick Bundle seem to be only for the game itself. I reviewed the game itself separately. This review is for the flightstick bundle, which comes in the box displayed by amazon here.

I bought a used set that came complete with everything from the original purchase, box, cords, faceplate, etc. And, everything worked fine and as intended.

However, I found these controls to be not really much fun at all. My experience with them showed they were slow, sluggish, and difficult to be precise with. I went through AC6 entirely, on two different levels. The only way I could get anywhere beyond about the first 5 missions was to revert to the standard hand-held controller. With that, I could control the plane very precisely.

The flight stick is a great concept, but I feel it's actual performance is much below what I anticipated. It really boils down to being able to control the plane quickly and precisely, which just wouldn't happen with this flightstick for me. Others may have a completely different experience. Read the reviews here to gain an idea of what some gamers have to say about their flightstick.

No instructions come with the bundle, this is the way it came from the factory. There is a somewhat confusing schema on the side of the box which attempts to explain what the function of each button/movement will be. I also bought a game guide which devoted a page to labeling the buttons and trying to correlate them with what the buttons on the hand-held controller did. This helped, but some of it you really had to figure out by trial and error.

Again, some gamers perhaps have had a stellar experience with this Flightstick Bundle. I did not. My experience with the Ace Combat series includes all of them from Air Combat (the first one) through Ace Combat 6, including Ace Combat Zero. All completed at multiple levels. For whatever reason, I was never able to become good enough with the stick to even approach what I could do with the standard controller.

Great, but not much improved from PS2 itles

They also made a flight control stick that came with a limited addition patch and Ace Combat 5 for the PS2. I have a 65" HD 1080P and HDMI hook ups and I can't really tell that much of a difference from one to the other. I would advise getting the PS2 package (can find them on ebay now for $100) and get Ace Combat 4, 5, and Zero. There is the online aspect on the 360, but I wasn't really that impressed with that.

If you don't own a PS2 or are a die hard fan of the franchise like me you may want to pick it up. The only complaints I have on this stick is it looks crappy -white/green/with big colored xbox buttons wheras the PS2 one was black and looked just like a flight stick. The other thing is the construction doesn't seem to be as strong-there is a lot of creeking when you move the altitude stick.

Not Available for less than arm and leg now

I purchased the game without the flightstick a week ago and I love it! I've been exclusively flying pc simulators since 1994 and this was a refreshing experience. No IT'S NOT A SIMULATOR!! If you approach the GAME with that in mind, I believe you will enjoy it. By far the main selling point of this game is the unbelievable graphics compared to what's possible with pc simulators...talk about eye candy. If you want "realism" in a combat sim, go for something pc such as Falcon 4.0 Allied Assault, or Lock On: Modern Air Combat. But if you just want to run and gun and marvel at some superb scenery along the way, this is the game.

Like the title of the review says, the flight stick is not available as a new purchase anymore, even as a standalone item. This is why this "available from the following resellers" item doesn't get higher marks in my review. Before it was realized that a flight stick was a feasible reality for a console game, I would have just accepted using just a controller. It's clear that actual flight simmers were not the target audience here...baffling missed opportunity since Microsoft Flight Simulator controls something like 97 percent of the flightsim audience. Some of us are actually willing to trade off an acceptable degree of realism for a better entertainment experience in the combat genre.

Just like the intro days of the console, Microsoft has left the public at the mercy of mercenaries on Ebay if you want to own one of these flight sticks. I cannot for the life of me understand the logic with this one. Limited edition...it's a joystick for crying out loud! It's a tool to reap the maximum experience from a game that should be available for purchase. Atari, Colecovision, Intellivision, Genesis, and the other ancient consoles haven't really become "collector's items". Their games were either re-released for other systems, or they were forgotten; Xbox 360 will follow the same as more advanced technology comes into play. Their pattern of attempts to manufacture value is pathetic in my opinion.

Never had a flying game before. Mounted the 2 flightsticks on a piece of wood using the supplied suction cups. Works great. Hours of challenging fun and action. Each user can customize the controls to their own taste.

very cool set

I liked this game very much. The flight sticks are great and feel very natural to play a flight game with. The only thing that was lacking was the story of the game. That is why I gave 4 stars. Game play is fine, graphics are great, and the sound is awesome.

THE BEST GAME EVER!!!!

I would have to say that this was one of Namcos finest games created. With the flight stick the realism will fly right past you, although, the flight stick does not have the looks it works extremely well. The flight stick is also compatible with pc games and the Blazing Angeles series. The game includes a wide variety of missions ranging from islands in the tropics to snowy regions near the poles. The game is also similar to the Ace Combat 5 for ps2 except this game was created with more missions and better graphics. I was very much please that I bought this game, and I guarantee that your $150 without tax will be well spent!

a must have for the X Box 360 collection

WOW this game is fantastic! The gameplay is wonderful and videos pull you into the storyline. It took me a bit to get use to the flight stick but OMG its a must have for this game. save your money and get this bundle, also came with a cool face for the 360. if you love to Ace Combat series i strongly recomend this one. The missions get really hard at times since there are sub missions and you will have to go back and re-fuel and ammo up. you can face up to 300 units on one mission. The online blew my mind, its so much fun. This game is the best so far for the Ace Combat series, I only hope Microsoft will release more games that i can use the stick on (Mech warrior, X Wing...)
