Finally Compatible with Mac OS X

5 Rating: 5, Useful: 9 / 13

I've loved the Hoyle game series (Card Games, Casino, and Puzzle & Board Games)for many years. But, the last Mac versions were released in 2002 and were only compatible with OS 9. These older versions were still playable on pre-Intel Macs, but the newer Macs with Intel chips no longer have compatibility with pre-Mac OS X software.

Finally, the long wait is over and new versions of the excellent Hoyle Games are available for today's Mac users! :-)

The odds are against you!

I found Hoyle's Casino 2008 to be bland and lackluster. While the bug in the Craps game (as mentioned by many in the 2007 version) has been fixed, the game itself is simply dull. A casino game should engage the player, and at least try to simulate the thrill of the games found in Las Vegas. Hoyle has managed to keep the look and feel of a 1990s era software program, and doesn't come close to competing with the 2001 release of Bicycle's Casino ver 2. What is missing in this package is the feeling that the games exist in a connected environment. Instead, the clunky menus that take you from game to game constantly remind you that you're playing a $20 computer game. Come on Hoyle, let's step it up. It's time to shed the ghost of Sierra and come up with something more original.

My Wife's "Casino, away from casino" pastime

This was a Christmas present for my wife, who had a previous version on her Mac...that was recently upgraded to the PC world with Vista. She loved the old version and likes the new one as well. There are more games and slightly better graphics. She enjoys the "face creator" that lets you personalize the playeers' identities.

Fun Games. Never Get Bored!

I purchased this as a gift for my 63 year old mom for Christmas, along with the Hoyle Card Games 2008, because she is always looking to learn how to play new casino games and she is totally hooked on solitaire. She is not very PC savvy, but learned how to play the games pretty quickly. The help that comes along with the game is useful but may need some interpretation if you don't know the game basics. Overall, it was a very good purchase.

Dissappointed

I bought this game as a Christmas present for my grandmother, who has since exhausted her current version from 2006. As she is older, she does not have the updated computer with a DVD Drive, and I of course didn't look closely that it only worked on a DVD drive I just assumed it would work with her operating system. In trying to install it I realized the problem, and immediately began searching for the CD-Rom version, which is said to be out there(per Hoyle's support forums), however I have had no luck in finding it. In the meantime my grandma is stuck playing her old one, and I am just hoping I can find her a game that works.

JUST LIKE BEING IN A CASINO!

this software game is pure fun and you really feel as though you are in a casino (without spending the $) they even give you Bnkroll of money to use so it's just not like collecting "points" or something, really feels like the real thing LOL. i would recommend this to anyone who wants the feel of a casino in the privacy of their own home. the slots are very realistic too, they even show you the one next to you as you would see in the "real" casinos. it's just pure fun. blackjack and keno are also very realistic too, especially with the soft music playing in the background and animation of the casino rooms. very well done. i love it.

Outdated ... but so am I

I bought this version because my old version had become obsolete. I expected some new glitz or something. Pretty much the same ol' stuff with the exception of the no-limit poker tournaments. I have fun with it but wish it had some of the newer slot games, etc. It's okay for what it is but MS could make it so much more!

Vegas playing

This is a cool CD and I was really interested in the 3 card poker and different types of slot machines. Not as free with the money as they are in Vegas........

Fun games, but dated looks

I downloaded the full-featured 60-minute demo from Hoyle's own website and loved it, so I came here to buy the real thing. Great selection of games: all the table games, good variety of slots, video slots, and video poker (including multi-hand poker), even mechanical horse racing!

On the downside, the appearance and interface IS very dated. Everything works smoothly, though, and all the game play is here that you'd expect from a trip to a casino. Casual computer gamers and casino regulars will have a ball with this.

Something to keep in mind: This game comes on a DVD-ROM. Some people with older computers are fully capable of running this game, but you may not have a DVD-ROM drive. In that case, you can buy & download this game direct from Hoyle's website.

Nopoint in buying new edition

I already had HC2004 and was looking forward to updated graphics, more interactive gameplay and improved game selection. What I got was just about the same thing! What was even more tough to take was it didn't even provide the opportunity to load like an upgrade! I lost all my past history. They didn't even offer any more choices to face maker! This whole thing is nothing more than 2004 with a couple new games. Save your money buy a discounted copy of 2004!
