Another Terrible MLB 2K Series Addition

1 Rating: 1, Useful: 8 / 17

This game is terrible! The graphics are the same as before. The hitting is glitchy and absolutely horrendous. Players glitch and run through each other. You may see a ground rule double go into the stands and then, the next thing you know, you see the ball back on the warning track rolling! The motions are unrealistic and the players don't really look that great. The fielding is easier than last year but is still very glitchy. This game is not at all worth the money.

Great Game!

This game, while sometimes confusing with controls, is amazing. Graphics are great player movements are great, stadiums are great!!! If you love baseball you will love this game, go out there and buy it!

Worst babeball game I have ever played!!!!!

Other than the graphics, this game is horible. I have never play a baseball game that I have disliked as much as this one. It does not play well at all. The pitching interface sucks not to mention the hitting interface. The MLB series (MLB '08: The Show) is the best baseball sim out there. I can not stress this enough. Dont buy this game. It is the worst [...] I have ever spent in my life. I would rather marry my cheating ex wife again than play this game again.

Still No Career Mode

I had the last two years' editions and this definitely as good as if not superior than last year's release. One of my only, and probably biggest, is there is no offering of a personal career mode as a player. This definitely has given the MLB series the edge in recent years I think. Overall, still a great game for most baseball fans. Oh, one last thing, managing minor league injuries also becomes kind of bothersome and costs you cap room to fix. Not a well thought out feature for the average player.

Fun, but Flawed Game

Once you grasp the controls, which I don't believe are as hard as some say, the game is quite enjoyable to play. The controls help to immerse you into the game of baseball unlike traditional baseball games. If it doesn't work for you, then you can still select the option of classic controls, so it's a win-win for everybody. Here is a quick snapshot of the good and the bad:

GOOD:
Graphics (stadiums and player visuals)
Franchise and minor league seasons
Card reward system
Hit stick

BAD:
Pitch Stick (if you're not precise you throw a very hittable meatball)
Throw Stick (the most awkward to use)
Load times (you definately will be able to get a load of laundry in the wash)
Glitchy
Too many cutscenes/animations (can we please just play ball!)
Strike Zone way too big (one of the more unrealistic portions of the game)

Bottom Line: A must play!! It's just too much fun not to give it a try.

It's not great, but it's the only thing 360 has

I've been playing this game often, but it becomes extremely frustrating. There are numerous bugs that just break the flow of the game, including slowdowns during fly balls, choppy instant replays, graphical problems in regards to collision detection, and poor graphics (far less than stellar). Also, it's worth mentioning that many people are experiencing freezes often, online play is incredibly laggy, so really not worth playing online, and out of the box the frame rate issue was horrendous, so a patch was released improving (but not fixing) the issue- you cannot get this patch unless your Xbox is connected to the internet.

That being said, it's not a bad baseball game at times, but not worth $60. An update is allegedly in the works, which hopefully may fix the issues and improve the value of the game. Check out the 2k Sports message boards for more in depth issues and gripes about the game.

Heartbreakingly Unplayable

Most of the people who wrote good reviews of 2K8 did so after playing only a few times. I intended to do the same but now that I have played over 50 games, I am sad to say that this same is infuriatingly unplayable due to numerous glitches.

If you play an entire season on any real difficulty level you will experience the following: It will be a close game with runners on base. You will be pitching with two outs and will include a pop-up to an outfielder. It will look like the inning is over and then two outfielders will collide and the runner will get an inside the park homerun.

That has happened to me perhaps a dozen times in the last week and it is just shameful that it happens at all -- not to mention so frequently.

Also there are lots of problems with the animations -- scenes that stutter and people who catch balls thrown at their backs. The stuttering is especially shameful because no one can claim that the stuttering is due to a particular hardware configuration, as with the PC.

Also, it is nearly impossible to run the bases manually. I've played 100+ games and still am having difficulties controlling only one runner at a time.

And don't even get me started on how difficult it is to learn to hit the cutoff man. The "manual" included with the game is fairly well useless.

Overall I regret buying this game and would sell it used but for a sense of obligation to my fellow gamers. I'd rather crack the CD in half than subject someone else to the experience of playing 2K8.

Last year was a double, this year they were caught stealing 3rd.

I owned mlb 2k7, i played about 90 games of the franchise but I just couldn't play anymore. I was giving up, and hitting way too many homeruns. Pro was too easy, All-Star was too hard, and adjusting the sliders last year was just damn annoying. So needless to say I was expecting much from MLB 2k8.

Game play is basically the same, only difference is that it feels more realistic. I personally couldn't understand the new pitching feature so I set it back to the face buttons. I am about 20 games into the franchise and I am having a blast. My record is 14-6, I have won a few games in extra innings, even lost a few in extra innings. Loosing doesn't bother me at all this year because I don't feel cheated out of the game. I would loose a game last year 5-3 with a total of 6 home runs being hit. That isn't the case this year.

Home runs aren't hard to hit, its just a realistic stat now. Game play is very satisfying win, or lose. For an example, i played back to back games on the same difficulty. Game#1 i faced Josh Becket. I only had 11 hits in 11 innings and lost on a RBI single from crisp. I wasn't unhappy at all, I was satisfied with the realistic game play. Game #2 was against the Baltimore orioles. I don't remember the pitchers name, but he was a 71 overall. I destroyed him winning the game 13-3. It made me smile that i couldn't get a hit off of Becket, but I could kill a no name starter. REALISTIC.

A few hiccups: Infielders would run right past ground balls thinking its infected with the black plague(like last year). Umpires have a WIDE strike zone. Pitches that barely scratch the plate are called for strikes. Hopefully they fix that with a patch, they HAVE to. It seems checked swings are a little fubar. I have looked at replays where they said i didn't go around, but I obviously did. Frame rate does tend to slow down at times. I just turned off needless things like replays and the such off.
For some reasons collecting cards is ridiculously fun. I don't know why but every game i hope to get a wild card pack just to see who I get this time. All in all I am very very happy i purchased MLB 2k8.

A down year for 2KSports

I get 2KSports baseball game every year. When the playability is good, I play entire seasons and its pretty much the only game I play for an entire summer. When the playability is bad, I get through a few games and it goes on the shelf.

This game sits on the shelf for me. Too difficult to hit and pitch this year unless you're in rookie mode, and in that mode no fun to hit 15 home runs a game.

this game sucks period!

The one thing I hate about this game is the pitching, every time you pitch the other team scores a run,I even dropped the AL computer ratings but it still gives the advantage to the computer. Do us a favor 2k sports if you make a game next year please bring back the classic pitching mode from 2k7.
