Fear Platinum was a bargain and a good game. The controls work well, and the plot holds your interest all the way through. I have never made it through the first game, although I have played the other two just a little to get the feel of them. Unless you are a super gamer and want to play intuitively, I highly recommend you go on the internet to find a walkthrough for each game and print them for you own use. All three are available running 25 to 35 pages for each game. Unlike COD4, there is no onscreen indicator to show which way to go. Even after several weeks with a guide, I still haven't gotten through the whole game, but I'm getting closer. Without a guide, you are just stumbling around and some of the paths are very hard to find even with the guide.

Fear Review

This is the best shooter i'v seen in a long time, but it has major problems.

Fear part #1:
It has an in-depth storyline. You get small bits at a time. The action is top notch. The AI works as team against you. You really have think out how to beat you enemy. The slow mo is a big help. The fear elements in the game will scare the hell out of you. You be almost leaping out your chair most of the time. This game really messes with you head. The action never seemed repetitive. Most of the time your look around you won't see what's going on.

Fear part #2:
The phone messages having info was left out of this game. This really needs it. This game all of your original team died. That was annoying, at least leave some members alive. The ghosts of your original team add some interest. Overall, it was fun to play. The action was again top notch.

Fear part #3:
You get to play from a different perspective. The action is great. This one fails with the new ultra boss. This is so hard as to take away from the fun of the game. They take a huge amount of ammo to take out. Near the end, you have 5 ultra-bosses in row and little or no cover. A level fix where the door behind you is unlocked will fix the problem. If you play those sections with god mode on, the game becomes fun again. The rats and roaches are a great addition, strangely more roaches would be better.

The whole trilogy is great fun, action, storyline with amazing ai. The action never seems repetitive. The AI will dynamically adapt to you. The AI has a flaw. If someone has a grenade launcher, you get out range and shoot far out. The friendly AI will just stay there and shoot in close, getting killed in the process. You have really keep on your toes with FEAR AI. Fear sets the tone and mood very well. Enough to scare right out your chair and onto the floor.

The trilogy has major failings. The flashlight lasts only a short period. The flashlight runs out. Then you have to wait for it to charge up, then you wait, then charge up, then wait, then charge up, then wait. I found myself getting very frustrated at this stupid flashlight bug. This bug should have fixed before it's public release. The flashlight is only useful if you strobe it. That is really tiring on your hands.

Some enemies take huge amount ammo to take out. Even anti-armor ammo takes an eternity to take them out. Sometimes, you face down enemies with sections with no cover. So, you spend hours trying to get past one section. Some enemies take 30mins to an hour in real time to take out just one.

It fails on another level. Your limited to three weapons. You have to lug your extra weapons 100 feet at a time, back and forth, over and over throughout the game. If you don't, you will run short of ammo at critical moments.

Reloading weapons caused more game reloads than any battle ever did. Fear needed an option turn off reloading. It gets very frustrating.

The game editor should allow you fix the flashlight bug, but it doesn't work. It just says "filecopy error" when try to make the fix/mod using their mod maker.

Even with fear's serious failings, it is a game worth the money for it's other positive merits.

Worth the money

Great game. Graphics were great, play was great. Did not use much of the ghost aspect as expected, only a few scenes which were not necessary for the game? And they were repetitive and interrupted game play. But, working around the ghost aspect it was quite an exceptional game. I am on the second installment now, still just as exciting and still with the same flaw...

Good but too much time on fear factor

Game had great graphics, and action was very good. Plot okay, although a little obscure at times. Too much time was spent on locking the game up during the "scarey" parts.

F.E.A.R. is a very fun game. The levels are a bit repetitive, but the great enemy AI makes up for that. Replay value is ok (there are things you miss the first time through; that and the different difficulty levels mean you might get maybe 2 or 3 replays out of it). Haven't tried multiplayer yet, but I like the fact that friends who don't have the full game can get the multiplayer component for free. I also haven't tried either expansion pack yet.

This includes the director's edition of F.E.A.R., which comes on a DVD (as opposed to several CDs) and includes some extra features.

FEAR... my bullets!

I enjoyed this game quite a bit. So far I have only gotten through the Main game and I would think about halfway through Extraction Point. I haven't played non-stop either, but when I do play I play for about 2-4 hours straight.

I'm going to do a quick and dirty list type review below using: 1 poor, 2 Bad, 3 Average, 4 Good, 5 Excellent. Also bear in mind I am using Half-life 1 & 2 as a benchmark... if you haven't played those, you should!

Story: Good
The story is fun and entertaining, although I'm not entirely sure I'm grasping the mesh of story lines that the developers intended. First Person Shooter Spec-Ops marines meets the Supernatural ala The Ring? Plays fun enough however.

Control: Excellent
The controls are standard W,A,S,D with a few extras... Flashlight, Leaning, etc. Plays like it belongs on the computer, not like a tragic port from a console. (ex: Halo (which I enjoyed on the xbox!))

Graphics: Excellent
I am rating the graphics as excellent based on the fact that some of the other FPS games currently on the market have phenominal over-the-top WOOHOO graphics, however no one has a machine capable of actually playing them! (ex: Crysis)

Single player: Excellent
So far this game has been extremely fun and the A.I. is incredibly smart at points. Some of the map design is obviously leaning in the A.I.'s favor, for example a lot of the rooms and buildings always have two ways around and the A.I. knows it when assaulting you, but that's okay they need the help as far as I'm concerned. :) If you are an experienced FPS player just start out on hard, moderate isn't worth your time and effort.

Multiplayer: Unknown
Sorry, I haven't tried... yet. I'm not really itching to try it either. There are games out there that are made for multiplayer (Team Fortress 2, Tribes, Battlefield). I prefer to have a few games where I don't have to rely on my internet connection to play.

Hope this helps someone out there. The game has been out for 3 years, but I am happy I waited and scooped it all up in one fell swoop for $30! I gave the game 4 stars due to the odd story line, and there are better plots out there, even for FPS games... no, seriously, there is! LOL!

Worth it!

This is one of the best shooters I've ever played, well, make that THREE of the best shooters I've ever played. Controls were responsive, overall it was quite "spooky," the only complaints I have were that at certain parts of each game there are "bottlenecks" that are frustratingly difficult to get past and result in destroying the fun of the game. The environments are also very similar for all three games, nothing really exotic and fairly repetitive. The storyline is definitely A+ though. I highly recommend this bundle!

A Very spooky game. Not as fast paced like most shooters but it keeps you thinking. I highly recommend it.
