Best multi-player experience on any console

Warhawk is a well made next-gen game that rivals the PC multiplayer experience. There's no time wasted with a single player or ridiculous storyline. You join a server and get right down to killing the other team.

The graphics are great. Lately, most of us have realized that better graphics don't necessarily amount to a better game. Warhawk keeps gameplay as the #1 priority but have managed to really give the game the next-gen look. Most importantly though, the game runs smooth; excellent frame rates even with 31 other players flying around.

The controls are a big part of why this game is so fun. Everything is very intuitive. On foot, into jeeps and tanks, or taking to the skies in a warhawk, everything feels natural. You can also choose whether or not to use the sixaxis motion control. I like how they give you the option because it was a little difficult for me at first. So I've decided to learn the controls using analog first and then graduate to using the motion sensor later on.

There are a couple different game modes: Death match, Team Death match, Capture the flag, and Zones. I've been having lots of fun with Zones but all of them are worth playing.

You can also have 2-4 players join you in any online game but picking up a controller and simply pressing start. The game plays better than I thought it would in split-screen. You barely notice after a while.

One negative is that there is no tutorial and you'll have to just play and figure things out for yourself. Which isn't too difficult given how they've taken the simplistic route with this game. But it might be a little frustrating for the first half hour or so.

Overall, this is a must-buy game. For me it's a 10/10 but I realize some people really love their single-players so if you're one of them obviously this wouldn't be the best option but I'd recommend trying it out, you might be surprised. Single players are useless after you've played it through once. And most of them include some type of multiplayer to give you some sort of replayability but Warhawk focuses ENTIRELY on the multiplayer experience and you will be able to play this game forever. It just doesn't get old, this type of game.

I highly recommend you check this game out. There is literally no other game on the PS3 that even comes close. On any next-gen console actually. If you enjoy games like Counter-strike and Battlefield on the PC this is the game that'll bring you back to consoles. No keyboard/mouse but you might actually come to prefer the controller setup for this game. It's really that good.

Like Chess: easy to learn, hard to master

A new PS3 owner, I haven't played console games since I gave away my PS1 a decade ago as I began college. As my first game for my PS3, the only drawback I see is that it can be too addictive.

Why? Like any good game with replayability, Warhawk is simple to learn but difficult to master. Anyone with fingers can log into a frentic game with 31 others and have some success blasting away. But it takes some time to learn. Which tactics work best in any situation is not so easy to immediately determine. Plus, I like to mix it up by cycling through the types of games (capture the flag and return it to yours, capture a zone and hold it, or team death match), the types of maps, and size of teams and maps (12 is close quarters while 32 is more epic with occasional close quarters fighting).

I recommend playing with other newbies at first so you're not discouraged and how badly you do. But like any other team multiplayer, a great player can get crushed if their teammates bite, or be victorious if they luck out to be with some veterans. This is all about the competition, trying to better yourself and learn how to work together in a team while you beat the other guys.

Complaints about cheaters and glitches seem misplaced. I never saw any cheating or glitches. Since the update I've heard that those problems went away totally. There should be some new maps coming and a new vehicle. My only suggestion would be to let people create maps or have random generated (but equally balanced) maps to mix things up even more.

For those who complain that experienced players have too much of an advantage, shouldn't that be how it is? I mean, a newcomer should have room to improve. The game is not one without skill requirements, it is more like Jeopardy than Deal or No Deal.

Warhawk - One of the best online shooters made

Warhawk has quickly become one of Sony's top PlayStation 3 games of this year and there is no question why.

Warhawk supports up to 32 players in one server at once making wonderful and fun 16 v 16 matches.

There are many great weapons and vehicles that aren't to far from being realistic. The graphics can be considered beautiful, they look to be in the middle between realistic and cartoony.

The sound is spot on, truly great.

The gameplay is fast and furious with a nice mix of calm.

If you love shooters, looking for a great online experience or to show that your purchase of the PS3 was worthwhile, get this game.

game is worth 10 stars

Warhawk is a very fun game.

Features:
-You can play offline split-screen with 1-4 players.
-You can online by yourself with up to 32 other players over the internet.
-You can play online split-screen with up to 4 players at your house, and with up 28 other players over the internet.
-Third-person view point.
-You can play on foot and in tanks, jeeps, and planes.

Game modes:
-Death match
-Team Death match
-Zones
-Team Capture-The-Flag

Graphics:
-Incredible draw distance, player models, and textures.
-9/10

Sound:
-Sound track consists of realistic sound effects and stereotypical "flight" music.
-9/10

Controls:
-You can use the Six-Axis motion controls or traditional controls.
-When using the Six-Axis motion controls, the movement of the controller varies on whether you're on foot or in a tank, jeep, or plane. The plane controls are the most difficult because the controls differ between flight and hover modes. In either flight of hover, you control using BOTH analog sticks and tilting the controller. This is quite difficult. If you use the Six-Axis controls, be prepared to spend 5-6 hours to get used to them.
-9/10, just be VERY patient.

Fun Factor
-It's really great, especially when you're in a game with 31 other players.
-The fluidity of the game play is also amazing; there's no lag!
-10/10

9.3/10

I highly recommend Warhawk.

There are ways to practice with out single player

This is one of the best online games I have ever played. The graphics are smooth and lag does not live in the Warhawk world. I am not going to repeat some of the praise that people have already stated so I will add some things that I noted are missing.

1. The issue with finding and getting into servers to play has finally been solved. I can find a game and join in under a minute.

2. If you have a difficult time with the controls, they can be adjusted just press start go to control. You can turn on or off the sixaxis motion control. You can adjust sensitivity for air, ground, and foot control.

3. The biggest gripe that I have noted is lack of opportunity to practice without getting shot out of the sky by better players. All you have to do is create your own game and lock it. Once you do that you will be in a map by yourself, or you can give your friends the password to get in. I have spent much time in a locked map with friends working on our skill set. (We are getting better everyday).

I really recommend getting this game. There is a lot of content that will be added in the future and you want to be one of the more experienced when it comes. Good luck.

Good online shooter

Warhawk puts you in the role of a soldier with a handgun, a couple grenades, and a club. You appear somewhere on a battlefield, and can pick up all sorts of other weapons (machinegun, missile launcher, etc.), extra grenades, and health. It is a 3rd person shooter, with different modes of gameplay including zone capture, capture the flag, kill everyone, or kill everyone on the other team.

There are vehicles that you can get into and control including jeeps, tanks, and the aircraft known as a warhawk. Each of these vehicles has its own special controls which actually handle pretty intuitively, although flying the warhawk may take some practice. Each vehicle also has its own weaponry, and the warhawk has many different powerups and health to pick up in midair.

Warhawk features online play capable of supporting 4 players from your console in a split screen mode, so you and three friends could all play together at your house against each other or online players. This game also supports offline multiplayer modes.

Warhawk is a welcome addition to the PS3 library, and recommended for fans of modern shooters. Action-adventure fans who enjoy a modern 3D game may want to pick this one up if you can find a good deal on a used copy.

This is my new favorite PS3 game. Many say this game is difficult to begin with, but I disagree. If you take a quick look at the manual before you play you shouldn't have any problems. Great fun!!!

I bought the downloadable version on the PS Store about a month ago and I've been playing ever since. I usually don't like online multiplayer (I prefer single player games like MGS), so I was worried that I would regret the purchase. Not so! I've put by far the most hours into this game out of any PS3 game to date.

The graphics are not mind-blowing, but they are very smooth and everything runs at a good framerate. The vehicles and characters animate very well. The graphics have a cartoony feel, but they are eye-pleasing. The sound is incredible. If you're in a bunker and a Warhawk explodes above you, the shrapnel will rain down around like an orchestra!

It can be difficult at first against better players, but with some practice, you'll do better. There are many vehicles and modes of play. If you don't like flying, you're not forced to do it. You can stick with ground combat, which is very fun. Planting mines in enemy territories, invading their bases with tanks, and defending bases can all be very invigorating. It's hard to get bored. If you get tired of the game, you're probably not doing everything the game is offering.

Go get it! It's still one of the most addictive PS3 games out there right now!

Update: As of July '08, there have been two DLC expansion maps (cheaper bought as a bundle) with new vehicles, and a few free updates that fixed old issues and added new gameplay (like Hero mode). It's nice to see the developers still supporting the game and being very communicative with the fans on the Playstation Blog site.

4 player split screen multiplayer in air, on feet, on wheels...

I am very surprised about the depressed review ratings on here. We have played Warhawk since it was launched 7 months or so ago and it is still one of the games that lets us choose the PS3 over our XBOX360(Halo!!!)regularly.

Warhawk is a pure online multiplayer game where you can choose, on various sized maps, what you prefer: battle from air to air, air to ground, tank battles, ssimple 2 feet battle with machine guns... it all mixes together in glorious fun battles.

Choose a shotgun, mine a few tanks, use a flame thrower or jump in a turret to what the Warhawks out of the air (Warhawks are Harrier type planes that can hover like Helis and fly like jets). You can use the sixaxis controller or simple joystick controls.

Nothing is more fun than a battle that has all the varied components at the same time. We use a large 63" HDTV with 4 players online at the same time. This is a blast (much like Halo)as you can have your friends cover you from the air or ground etc. Voicechat with the headsets works great too.

All in all: nothing beats a 4 player online splitscreen experience. It is the biggest thrill to take on others that way or even each other.

You can also play local only by setting a localhosting game. The only thing you cannot do is a 1 player mission.

The game has all the traditionas: zones (capture territories), CTF, Melee etc etc.

What is also woth mentioning is that you can pla from huge 5 mile radius maps to tiny little fortresses with 32 players, i.e. either a sniper, long range bombing war vs crazy stab-fests or anything inbetween.

Warhawk is a must have for anyone that diggs Halo (1, 2 or 3). 4 player split screen is a must have. The variety is a mt have. The game does not get old, it gets better as you start to memorize maps and find weapons.

It lags Forge mode but they have broughtout the Omega factory map that comes with the huge flying fortress which is insanely fun to bring down.
WARHAWK RULES, SIR YESSIR.

PS, REGARDING THE HEADSET VERSION: You do not need it if you have a Bluetooth headset lying around. Any bluetooth headset seems to work and 20$ for a crappy headset is not worth the money. Get yourself a 9$ BT headset on dealextreme or so if you really want one.
