The game is twice as good as the first one, and the graphics rock.I also like that you can create a skater, and create your own skatepark.

Best Sk8er Game since Skate or Die(NES)

Definately the most awesome skateboarding game available. In my opinion better than Skate or Die was in its time (For you kids out there that was an original Nintendo game way before your time). Excellent graphics, wonderful gameplay, awesome control and a seemingly unlimited option to tricks and combos available. I love the park editor. I've been able to make some pretty awesome parks, and alot of the premade ones are really incredible. A must buy even if you are not a regular for skating games. And one more thing the soundtrack totally rocks!

I didnt love this game quite as much as the first one. First of all, the soundtrack isn't as great. The first game's soundtrack was very catchy and never got old. Even though the Tony Hawk 2 has more songs, it is more rap and light rock. I liked the pop and hard rock feel of the first game. Second of all, some of the challenges are almost impossible. Who can expect you to beat the game when you have to score 240,000 in 2 minutes? In this game, you do not truly earn new decks, stats, and levels, you have to pay for them. I personally don't this feature. Career mode, overall, is very weak.

The one thing that wowed me, however, was the skate park editor. I like the idea that you can have almost complete freedom in creating your skatepark. The only thing I do not particularly like about this game is that there is a specific limit on number of ramps, rails, and risers, but I guess it keeps you from making your park impossible to ride in.

Overall, I guess this is an allright game, but the fun factor of this game is not as great. The only thing I advise, though, is to rent this before you spend ... or more on this game.

Best Playstation Game Ever

To keep it short and sweet, if you like the first Tony Hawk game at all, go out and buy TH2 today. It it worth the 40 bucks, in fact, this one is worth double the retail price.

TH2 takes video game skating up a couple levels. With the addition of manual tricks as well as bluntslides, the game takes on a fresh new approach, b/c you can mix these tricks into your runs. There are also a few new pros, and all new locations to skate. By the way, you can create a skater and come up with some crazy characters, body art and all.

My only complaint is the soundtrack. The songs, for the most part, are pretty old, and don't quite work for the game overall. In fact I find myself going to the trouble of repeating the same 2 or 3 songs every time I skate. Naughty By Nature?? Who?

Can't beat the original

This game, in every way, is twice as good as the first. However, if you own the first one, you won't spend hours upon hours trying to get a high score anymore. The novelty wears off. Still a great edition in your library, especially if you never owned the first one, but it won't suck up as much time.

You'd barely recognize it...

If this game didn't have the name "Tony Hawk's Pro Skater" on it, I probably would have confused this for another skateboarding game. The game has almost no similarites to the first. Instead of tapes, you get money, with double the objectives and bigger levels. You have a whole bunch of different tricks, and you have to buy stats instead of just earn them, and you can buy new tricks. This game also has an create a player mode and a Skate Park Editor(Which I am a very big fan of), so you can make your own skate parks, and play and edit pre-made parks. The thing about this game is, even though it's bigger, and there are more tricks and it's easier to do combos, it's just not as fun. A big contribution to this is the disappointing soundtrack. The only good songs on it are the first two: Blood Brothers by Papa Roach and Anthrax with Public Enemy in Bring the Noise. The punk is all missing. It has been replaced with rap, which any skater is plain out against. Another thing is that while the beginning parks are bigger, they stay the same size through the whole game. The game also asks you to do impossible tasks, like grind rails you can't even find and get 250,000 points in two minutes in a level where it takes 10 seconds to get to the halfpipe(Philadelphia)! Another thing is some of the graphics. There is a lot of draw-in, especially on the narrow courses, and the characters look, well...dirty in appearance. It's kind of funny to look at them though. But despite of all this, the game's still fun. I don't know why, I should be giving this two stars, but knowing that it's Tony Hawk's Pro Skater, I get the good ol' feeling. Buy it, I guess.

Spectacular Except for the Music

Everything about this game(with one exception) is absolutely incredible! The depth of the engine is staggering with the seemingly infinite number of trick combos that can be linked with grinds and/or manuals. The graphics are outstanding for a 32-bit system, surely maxing out the Playstation. The levels are huge and mostly fun to play. The only thing wrong with this game is the soundtrack. With the exception of a few awesome tunes by such bands as Millencolin and Lagwagon, the soundtrack for the most part is a huge disappointment. The wicked punk soundtrack of the first game has been mostly replaced by hip hop tracks that are totally out of place in a game like this. What were you thinking Neversoft??? But besides that, this game is truly incredible. I can't wait for Tony Hawk 3 for the PS2!!

Great game

After getting Tony Hawk's Pro Skater I didn't think Activision could make another game even better, but they did. Tony Hawk's Pro Skater 2 is such a great game. You can choose from all different skaters, create your own skater, and even build your own skateparks. This is one of the best video games ever!!
