This game was so fun! Me and my friend rented it for 2 days and had a blast. The reason why I put perfect game to "rent", was that on the second day we had almost won the game and was very bored of it. Very exciting for a couple of days, but I would reccommend only on renting. There is 4 characters to choose from, 1-4 players competitive or cooperative, and a power meter. Have some fun!

... Everything in Gekido is exactly the same as in streets of rage, except for the rage meter. The rage meter was what got the 3 stars, not the game. it was a different part of the game, it added new strategy.
All in all, i would say that this is a decent game, but its not too original

I'm going to keep this a minimium so this will be quick and Easy and sorry for the Bad Grammer
Controls:the where Quick and responsive, I liked the crounch button in this game, Fighting Force BUGGED ... me when I had to push the punch button and some Punk was kicking me in the teeth while I was trying to get the tire.
Graphics:I'm not VERY picky on the PSX graphics manly because the system is not capable of Dreamcast abilitys so here it, the Graphics look Nice and Gritty and they move ALOT faster Frame Rate than some of the older games, and I really LOVE the special effects in the game the make it nice when relaxing on the couch. but not as sharp as tony hawk, and some of the enimes look corny
Game play:this is what I like about this game. It's fastpaced, varity of enemies (more than Fighting force can manage), and alot of weapons, I like the speed of the game not so slow like the most other Final Fight games(even though capcom is one of the best of this genre), I like the Fact you can learn combos as you go along the way(how many brawlers even do combos).
Sound:the sound effects arn't really perfect(but how many games really have sound effects that are good) just normal sound
Bottom line:well if you're a causual normal gamer you MIGHT like it, if you're a more of the Die Hard fighting fan (capcom/namco/snk) you may want to stray away, run out and play a game of final fight 3 on the emulator or something, if you just like to beat the ... out of something and kill you'll like this game and probubly fighting force (1, never played 2) just to kill guys with weapons if you're not a picky person

I got this game because I was a big fan of the Double Dragon and Final Fight games. The developers of this game promised a 3D version of those great games. It turned out to be more like a mix of Tekken 1 (without the thrill, gameplay and graphics) and the Matrix (the rotating cameras are fun the first time, but after that, "Where's the Advil!", espicially with two players.)
I understand that this game couldn't have had the best graphics in the world, but the graphics here are horrible. The playable characters look like the enemies and, when playing two player, you go after the other player thinking he's an enemy.
There is a "Battle Royal" mode where all 4 players go against each other. It sounds fun, but the characters aren't equal and the weapons always fall from the same spot.
I respect Interplay for having the guts to try to bring back this genre, but after playing this game, I never wanted to see it again. Don't waste your time or money on this dud.

After 15 minutes, this got tossed into the "resell it on ebay" pile. How weak can you get. The idea of 4 player smash fests, along with using all sorts of weapons sounds really cool...until you realize this is a souped-up version of the ratty old "Combatribes" arcade game. It was so easy, no matter how insanely hard I set it to , no matter how bad I let them beat me up before jumping in to fight back.
So you can throw a car at someone..whooopeeeeeee. In the 4 player arena mode, it's a joke, invariably one player gets picked on by everyone, and slowly but surely, you are left standing because you were smart enough to hide out for 2-3 minutes before jumping into the fray.
This game is bad, really bad. What were the programmers thinking on this one ?

I like blowing things up with tires and stuff.

Gekido is just what Playstation needed. The story isn't amazing, but it's all about beating the crap out of things with tires, knives, guns, flame throwers, planters, soda machines, other thugs. You get the idea. And that's just the Urban Fighters mode. Arena Battle Mode is s slug fest with up to 4 players, kinda'like the Wu-Tang game. With great art work by Joe Madueria (Battle Chasers),big explosions, LOTS of moves, tons of hidden stuff, and more explosions..this game's got great replay value.

Gekido is another fine example of a game with alot of promisebut ultimately fails to deliver. Sure you and a friend can team up and beat up enemies left and right. Sure you can pick up stuff and throw it at the bad guys - ...., you can even pick up the bad guys. Sure each character has dozens of moves and combos. You would think with all these good points the game would rock. Instead it loses its interest after 15 minutes, and after an hour, I felt like taking a nap.
Cheap AI - enemies consistently block your hits and take cheap shots while you're in the middle of winding for you next punch. Since your characters have enormously long combos that require alot of movement (i.e. roundhouse, windmill kicks, etc.), the enemy can grab you or knock you senseless while you're back is turned to them.
Annoying sounds - the stereotypical Bruce-Lee character makes that strange guttural noise that Bruce Lee makes every time he punches or kicks. So you can image this can get ..... annoying when you're fighting 3 or 4 enemies at once. All you hear is "waah! waah! waah!'. The female character also has the exact annoying problem, except her shrill is a lot louder and more irritating.
Craphics - the characters themselves aren't that bad. When you beat up enough enemies, you get a rage movie, which basically makes you glow for about 10 seconds and gives you extra energy. Actually this is the best looking part of the game. Each character has different lighting effects for the rage power, and they're all awesome.
The problem is the background. On one level, you're fighting on a boat, and I swear the backdrop looked like a painted curtain. The boat is made of up 3 textures and the rain, well, I wouldn't call it rain. On a 21" monitor, I couldn't tell the bad guys apart from the wall.
Also there are little things that make this game even more irritating. Everything you can pick up can be thrown and cause an explosions - even tires! Didn't the game makers learn anything from Fighting Force 2? Then there are rabid dogs that jump at you and bite your throat. One dog I can deal, but they always come in packs of four and they're a pain in the you-know-what. Also most of the enemies are cannon fodders - like those ninjas from any Michael Dudikoff movie. Except for the bosses, who are ..... impossible to beat without dying at least once, the entire game is pretty damn easy.
There's you can play with 4 players simultaneously in a special area. Basically it's a small square with objects strewn along the ground, and you and 3 friends can beat each other until you get bored (again, 15 minutes).
Overall, Gekido is a flashy game with lots of great action movies, but in the end you'll will get bored. This game reminds me of Dynamite Cop for the Sega Dreamcast, except it doesn't last 15 minutes.
