Aerosmith fans only

If your not an Aerosmith fan it is probably notfor you. I've only completed about 50% on medium, but some of the other band songs are boring and not very good choices(Mott the Hoople?New York Dolls?) The aerosmith songs are good so far.
This game is MUCH easier than GH3. If you've played before don't even bother with easy. I'm no expert player(haven't even come close to completing hard on GH3) but even the medium level is pretty much a breeze. Overall I'm a little dissapointed so far.

Aerosmith love, guitar hero zero

Personally, I love that they chose Aerosmith as the first band to have their own individual version. The songs are catchy as always and playing it on a controller guitar makes it even more so. The interface is the same as Guitar Hero III, Steven Tyler's moves, and the songs where Joe and Steve interact make it even more great for the Aerosmith faithful.

The problem comes up for the Guitar Hero vet. If you've played GHIII for hours on end, you'll notice the lack of content. AS priceless as the songs are, there really isn't much of them. There are 31 basic career mode songs with around 10 hidden. There doesn't seem to be any downloadable content coming at all. So if you are a die hard Guitar Hero player I wouldn't suggest buying it. Wait for more songs to come out for GHIII and/or wait for WORLD TOUR to hit the shelves.

Fun... Albeit Short

As a "classic rock" fan in my mid-twenties, Aerosmith has always been an iconic band with so many great hits. Therefore, when I heard about this project, I was immediately excited.

I had spoken to a few of my fellow XBox fans before getting the game and the common theme I heard was, "Yeah, it will be cool, but there aren't many songs." With that in mind, I still wanted the game.

Last night, I beat the game on Medium (I've been "graduating" myself up to the Hard level for about a week and a half, now.) in one evening and have to agree, the game is fun, but all too short.

While many of the songs are quite iconic ("Love in an Elevator, "Sweet Emotion", "Walk this Way", "Rag Doll") there are also some very obscure ones that I would have rather omitted in favor of "Dude Looks Like a Lady", "Cryin'", "Angel", or any of their good songs off of their "Nine Lives" Album ("Pink" is the only song available from it.).

The "Opening Band" idea was also very nice, with a good selection of songs that were fun to play and also served to "cleanse the palate" between Aerosmith sets.

Achievements are relatively easy to get as well (provided you play on Medium or higher). After getting the "Gold Star" on the very first song, I had five or six of the achievements.

Noticeably absent is the Co-Op Career mode. One of the best things about the Guitar Hero franchise is the ability to team up with a friend and play through the game. With a band like Aerosmith and the talents of Joe Perry, Brad Whitford, and Tom Hamilton, I would have really enjoyed the chance to play with a friend through a career rather than settle for the "Quickplay" options.

I gave the game four stars because it is a good time and, if you're a Guitar Hero fan, you will get plenty of enjoyment out of it. As far as value goes, though, the lack of Co-Op Career and a smaller song bank than any of its predecessors make it one to buy "used" (or wait for the price to drop) or simply rent.

Where's the rest of it?

I am a Guitar Hero junkie, I admit it. I have played every title in the Guitar Hero franchise multiple times. When I heard that they were making a game based almost exclusively on Aerosmith, I was ecstatic...I have been a fan of Aerosmith since I was a wee child wearing out my father's copy of the "Rocks" album on the record player.

Needless to say, I was there at release to purchase my copy; I bought the bundle version as I needed to replace my wireless guitar controller which has started to wear out due to constant playing. Upon getting my copy, I rushed home to play.

I was a little underwhelmed, to say the least. The first thing I noticed was there was little more than HALF the content of the previous releases. There are a total of 31 songs in the career mode, with an additional 10 available through the in game store...a whopping total of 41 songs total to play through. Compared to the 73 songs available in Guitar Hero III, Guitar Hero: Aerosmith leaves something to be desired.

As for the track listing, there is a decent smattering of Aerosmith tracks, however, some tracks that you would expect to see here are missing, such as "Janie's Got a Gun (The band's first Grammy win), Angel, Dude Looks Like a Lady, Eat the Rich, Cryin', Amazing, and Crazy, to name a few. These are some of the highest charting and most popular songs of the band's career, and given the relative lack of content overall, their absence is inexcusable. As I progressed through the game, I became convinced that this game should have been released as downloadable content or a lower cost expansion to Guitar Hero III.

On the plus side, the game mechanics are identical to Guitar Hero III, so anyone familiar with the workings of that title will be right at home here. The inclusion of short video clips featuring interviews with the band members between each tier of songs was a nice touch, as well. Being that it's basically the same game as Guitar Hero III, the fun-factor is unchanged.

Bottom line: If you are a die-hard Guitar Hero fan, and enjoy Aerosmith as I do, RENT this game for now, and wait to purchase until after the price inevitably drops. However, if you are neither, then go play your copy of Guitar Hero III...you're not missing much skipping this installment altogether.

Way overpriced compared to other similar games

Was anticipating this game with great enthusiasm as I am huge fan of Aerosmith, to only get disappointed by the fact that

1) So many songs are NOT by Aerosmith, but the band was inspired by.
2) Such a short playlist and song selection
3) Ease of gaining points and going through the game, not challenging enough
4) My favorite "Crazy" and "Don't want to miss a thing" were not there

Game would be great if you have nothing to compare it to, if it's your first experience with GH or Rockband products.

$60 for this? Come on

Let me start off by saying that I'm a big fan of Guitar Hero and Rock Band games. I think they are a blast and a nice change from the controller.

I was upset at how short this game was compaired to Guitar Hero 3. There is only one battle against Joe Perry compaired to three battles in GH3. There is about 13 less songs as well. The game is just way too short and unsatisfying for $[...] Do yourself a favor and rent this one as you can beat all the songs in a matter of a few hours.

Good..but quick

As always...a great game. What more could you expect from Guitar Hero Series. They are always enjoyable...but with this one they seemed to rush it a bit. Seemed shorter than the others and maybe a bit more on the Easy Side. I beat the game quicker than I did GH3 and GH2. I know it's not my skill at the game getting better... I can still barely beat GH3 on Med. :P

Disappointing

When I bought GH:Aerosmith, it was mostly because the offerings in GH2 and GH3 were starting to wear a little thin, and I was getting tired of playing the same tracks over and over again.

However, the game was an immediate disappointment. The song offerings are, by far, the weakest of any of the GH games. Even if you're a big Aerosmith fan (which I'm not), I can't imagine that this game would have any staying power. Even the add-on songs are very limited, and all just more Aerosmith offerings. No lesser-known bands, no introduction to new music you might not have heard otherwise... just more of the same tired old catalog.

To make matters worse, not only are the song options limited and dull, but the songs themselves aren't that difficult to beat. By comparison, while I was able to beat all songs on GH2 on Hard, and struggle on Expert, and struggle with 1 or 2 hard songs on GH3, I beat every GH:A song on hard with no problem, with only 3 songs I didn't earn 5 stars on. It lost it's replay value so quickly that after beating hard, trying to beat Expert became more of a task of tedium than a goal I truly wanted to beat.

I've ended up going back to GH3 and Rock Band, and played both more since buying GH:A than I've played GH:A.

I really only see this game having lasting appeal to true die-hard Aerosmith fans (add 1 star if you are), and even then, I'm skeptical.

Just not as fun anymore

My main problem with the game is it is way too short and easy. Starting with Neversoft's Guitar Hero III, the series isn't as fun as it once was. There isn't much too say about this game since there really isn't anything new here. Basically, it's a Guitar Hero game based on Aerosmith and bands they were inspired by. The game is full price even though it only has half as many songs as GHIII had. Due to the game being too easy, it's also not nearly as fun. The only song I like playing on this game anymore is "Joe Perry Guitar Battle". I easily five starred every song on the Expert difficulty and I'm only semi-good. While this game is disappointing, it at least has a few advantages over GHIII. For example, the drummer isn't animated like a robot, no songs are over charted badly, you actually have to be precise with your hammer-ons and pull-offs again, and they don't advertise stuff that has nothing to do with music. While I am a fan of Aerosmith and I do think the track list was well made, I just don't like the whole one band idea. Maybe Guitar Hero: Metallica will change my mind, but I doubt it. The only reason you should buy this game is if you're a really big Aerosmith or Guitar Hero fan. Otherwise, just wait until the true sequel to GHIII, Guitar Hero World Tour.

Awesome!

I bought this game for my girlfriend. She and I have been playing each other for a while now, I think since Guitar Hero II came out, and this one just adds to the fun! We Can't Put It Down!
