A reasonable alternative to GHOST RECON.

Conflict: Desert Storm did not do well at all on the PS2 and XBOX. However, it tends to stand out a little better on Gamecube. Since there are no online squad-based game sfor Gamecube, the focus is on the single player mode, which is actually good. The levels are varied, but are fun to play through. You can get assault rifles and rocket launchers, as well as handguns. Split-screen play supports 4 players, but isn't all that exciting. If you want a multiplayer game, try TIMESPLITTERS 2.

As for problems, there are a couple. First, there is no online play. Sega did it with PHANTASY STAR ONLINE, so why can't anybody else? Second, the camera sometimes moves awkwardly, which makes aiming harder. Also, the camera gets worse in split-screen. If you are not willing to learn the levels, CONFLICT can be very difficult at times.

There is only one other squad-based battlefield game on GAMECUBE, GHOST RECON. It focuses more on taking cover in the bushes, and giving your team directions. It is also a first-person game, while CONFLICT is a third person game. CONFLICT focuses more on action. THE SUM OF ALL FEARS is a primarily indoor game, so it is not really in the same genre.

So which game should you buy? CONFLICT: DESERT STORM is really your best option, with GHOST RECON a close second. However, if you have a PS2, buy SOCOM first, even if you can't play online. If all you want is a GAMECUBE shooter, you should buy MEDAL OF HONOR first.

The best and realistic Desert Storm game EVER!

A solid enjoyable arcade-style war sim.

Getting straight to the point:

Visuals: Improved from Ps2 version with better textures and draw distance.
-8.2/10

Audio: An atmospheric score swells and ebbs in the background.
-7.6/10

Gameplay: As well as action and bloodshed, strategy is also a key factor and balanced well against the other facors.
-8.3/10

Lifespan: Fifteen missions and also a very enjoyable multiplayer mode. Should last more than a few months.
-8.0/10

Originality: Once again the game cube sharpens up one of the previously released ps2 games and succeeds. The strategic real-world action is unvailed well by the game cube.
7.9/10

A good balance of strategy and action. An enjoyable war(oh the irony!)

Better than Ghost Recon !

We just bought this game and we love it. This game is more realistic and easier to play and control than Ghost Recon. If you want stealth missions go for Splinter Cell, but if you want a good combination of stealth, gun fire, and strategy - this game has it. The fact that it sells for $..is also a plus. You can play solo and be in charge of up to 4 men in your squad (depending on the mission) or you can play together with friends and have them control the members of your squad. Add to all these great things that this game is full of history. It recounts many of the details of Desert Storm - and this time you get to take out Saddam yourself!

I bought this game on 5/25/03 and I've been delighted with the game ever since. Let me tell you, if your looking for acion, aventure, good graphics, this game has it all. What I like about this game a lot is that you can obtain and use estrodenary weapons and vehicles that are out off this world. Here is a little hint that I'll give you, never jump out of a mountain or something high you might kill the soldier by doing that, you can always heal him but you might not get to your inyured player in time and he might die and once he dies, he will be replaced by another soldier(ussualy a rokie). That happened to Bradley, one of the best soldiers in the game, I was blowing the briedge in the first level and I was so in a hurry that I managed to jump of the blowed bride instead of goin around the mountain. When he got inyured I had to use folley and go around the mountain to heal him but it was too late, he had died. Oh well, GOOD LUCK SOLDIER.

This game impressed me!

Over view:

Graphics 6.5/10 :
Although the models are very nicely done and detailed, everything else is average... Some of the landscape and objects are rough and not very impressive but get the job done. And the cinematics aren't anything special but in this game graphics aren't the important thing.

Controls 9/10 :
The controls are at first akward and confusing, and might overwhelm some people. After some practice you get used to them. The control scheme allows (once you've practiced them) more possible ways to fight then most other FPS.

GamePlay 9/10 :
This game's 15 missions are long and fun fun fun. Co-op mode rules! Fighting along side your friends is neat. But if your friends are elsewhere you'll have to learn to control a squad of four by your self, which may overwhelm some people. So invite your friends over for a great time!

Sound 7/10 :
Well there's voices, gun shots and music but I'm too busy playing to pay much attention.

Overall 9.5/10 : This would be a great game to buy for the summer! So just sit back, relax, invite over some friends and get ready for FPS heaven!

I rented this game when I first played it I thought it was gonna be like Ghost Recon. But I was wrong! This is much better! I recommend this for single-player and multiplayer play. Especially fun with you and 3 friends!

this game is AWESOME! before i got it i looked at reviews and alot of people liked it. so i bnought it and its so-so much fun. You can either be Delta Force or SAS officers. the controls are easy once you learn them and weapons are awesome. this game reminds me of solcom. the first level is not great but the others are sweet. you can pick up other weapons and other stuff like RPG's. also you can give commands to youre other soldiers by pressin z then x. fun game. i recommend this game.

Great Squad Shooter!!!

I have owned all three ports of this game, and honestly this is my least favorite. However, I still love this title. The GC version has slightly more akward controls than it's rivals, AI is still just as solid. The squad based mission orders are controlled by a basic, easily learned control format. Weapons are somewhat realistic but you are required to find weapons caches for ammo and guns, a big disappointment to gamers used to picking up and using the enemy's weapons. Multiplayer (UP to 4) cooperative is awesome for this game! Requires some thought and don't forget to take cover, for me this game is more enjoyable than Ghost Recon or Navy SEALS. Love this game!!!

A great shooter

Graphics. That's the one thing that docked this game of the fifth star. When I first saw this game, I was at my friend's house. I saw the game on the screen, looked down, and to my surprise saw that the Gamecube was on instead of the N64.
These are not GameCube quality graphics. I really, really hated the helicopter models especially (I've never seen a UH-60 turn so flatly!)
But, graphics aside, this game was superb! The gameplay is realistic and challenging. You have to use smart tactics, make good use of your squad's strengths, and try not to expose your squad's weaknesses in order to win. Individually, you have to worry about ammo and health. You have to be conservative, or else you're running around the desert with nothing but a little knife for defense.
The game stays true to the 1991 war against Iraq. The invasion of Kuwait, the SCUDs, the F-117 strikes, the victory, it's all there.
This is also the first realistic game I've experienced that allows you to move up both enlisted and officer ranks. Your squad members start out as Privates, except your rifleman, who's a Sergeant. Soon, your squad members become officers, starting as O-1s (2d Lieutenants). I'm always eagerly waiting for a promotion after each mission.
Desert Storm is a great game, true to life and challengeing.
