First off: The Gamecube ports of RE2, RE3 and RE Code Veronica are not meant for vets who played them already on Playstation or Dreamcast. These are for newcomers to the series, Gamecube owners who started off with the REmake and RE0. Ignorant vets will be disappointed at the lack of new content.

I became an RE fan in the spring of 1996 when the first game in the series was new. I loved it and I couldn't wait for the sequel. When RE2 was finally announced, many fans were disappointed that it had two entirely new characters instead of reusing the characters from the first game. The director explained that every RE game had to have new characters, because the previous characters had already been through their share of horrors and were now hardened by them. I agreed with him 100%. So later when RE3 was announced and Jill from RE1 was the main character, that seeded my disdain for the game. It disappointed me that the creator didn't have the balls to stick to his guns, because he was right. Later I came to accept the rehashing of previous characters in RE games, but this was the first one to do it, and it annoyed me.

Eventually the game came out and I bought it. Another irking detail niggled me right out the gate; RE3 has no "normal" difficulty setting, which is what I always play my games on when given the choice. In this game, you have to choose between easy or hard. Easy is insultingly easy and hard is harder than I like. However, RE3 does have some great gameplay innovations such as the gunpowder based ammo creation system, and the defensive dodge move, which I really wished they'd put into all following games in the series. There are also several points where you have to choose between two possible actions, and the choice you make does have an effect on what happens next. The puzzles are fairly standard for an RE game.

RE3 does nothing to further the storyline. It's a complete sidetrack. I've always personally considered Code Veronica to be the true sequel to RE2, and RE3 to be a 'gaiden' (sidestory). Recently it's come out that this is the official truth, and the only reason Code Veronica wasn't given the title RE3 was because of the business relationship (or perhaps even actual contractual obligations) between Capcom and Sony. In some cases I would argue that if the gameplay itself is good, the story doesn't matter. But the fact is, RE1 set up Umbrella as the ultimate evil jerks who needed to be taken out, and RE2 did precious little to bring us closer to that goal. By the end of RE3, you're in exactly the same place RE2 left you, no closer to taking down the bad guys. Code Veronica, on the other hand, does indeed finally take the fight directly to Umbrella. And while I'm on the subject, I really have to question the wisdom of having RE4 take place in a world where Umbrella has already been taken out completely. That's one pleasure that DEFINITELY should have been given to the player.

To sum up: I'm an RE vet of eight years and I don't recommend RE3.

not my type of game

ive played this game for like a few hours and i thought i was stupid and scary i gave it two cause its lotrs of fun shooting zombies but the thing really bothering me is the main enemy of the game NEMESIS. He follows you nonstop and i hate games when they follow you the entire game cause its annoying and theres no new creatures and theres not even new graphics. you can play this game if you like....but i warned you.

Buy only if you do not have a PS1 or PS2

I have it. After beating Resident Evil Zero & the remake of the first, I wanted to jump right in on GC's RE3:Nemesis. There are slightly faster frame rates and a different use of controls to support the GC's controller. That's all.

The RE3 PlayStation Dual Shock Version with the original and rearranged data is the same as this passed off port. I don't need to review the game itself, it is another chapter in the saga that is well-known to fans.

If you don't have a PlayStation1 or 2, then this is a solid buy. If you've never played RE3 and don't have the PS, it is a solid buy again. Whoever is making up the stories about the better graphics or a remake is fooling you.

Don't get me wrong, RE3 is a great game, but it is a port. Graphics, game, content and all. I rated it 3 stars because of the marketing tactic. The original PS version is a 4.5 star game. You'll notice that this review will be posted on RE2 as well because Capcom did the same with that one.

Still A Good Game, But More Could Have Been Done With This Version

Being a huge fan of Resident Evil, and having played both the remake of the original and Resident Evil 0 on Gamecube, when I heard that Resident Evil 2, 3 and Code Veronica would also be making their way to the 'Cube, I was very anticipant. However my hopes were crushed when I found out that the games would simply be ported from their original versions found on the PS1 and PS2. Not only that but Capcom was planning on selling them at a whopping $40 price tag. Make no mistake there is absolutely nothing new about this version of Resident Evil 3: Nemesis. If you own the original PS1 version, then there is no reason to buy this as it is the EXACT same game. I'm really disappointed by Capcom's lazy attitudes towards the re-releases on Gamecube. In its day Resident Evil 3: Nemesis was a great game, and still today it is just as enjoyable. If you have never played it before, and you don't own a PS1 or PS2, then this would be a great way to get aqquainted with the game for the first time.

Story wise Resident Evil 3: Nemesis doesn't really break any new ground for the franchise. It actually takes place on the same night as Resident Evil 2, and in the same place. Instead of controlling Leon or Claire though, you are back to controlling Jill Valentine, who must now also escape from the zombie infested Racoon city. However a mysterious beast known as "Nemesis" has been unleashed to hunt down Jill and exterminate her, and there are frequent portions through out the game where you will run into him. It's more of a side story to the second game than an actual third installment (many rightfully consider Resident Evil: Code Veronica to be the third chapter in the story.) Despite that fact it's still an extremely fun game to play, as it has just as many creepy and tenseful moments are any of the other RE games (while being concentrated a bit more on action, like RE2). The graphics are pretty weak compared to anything of today's standards, but to be appreciated, you have to consider the time it came from. Capcom could have at least touched up the graphics and made the game a bit faster if they were simply going to port it, but I guess complaining about it isn't going to do anything.

Control wise it's exactly the same as every other RE game, just simply incorporating the Gamecube controller layout found in the previous Gamecube RE titles. I'm guessing if you're considering buying this, then most likely you've played a RE title somewhere before, so you should have no problems picking the game back up and getting to work. I actually like the layout and feel the Gamecube contoller gives the game, and it seems to be much better suited for the game the PS controller was.

Like I stated before, it's the exact same game found on the PS1, so if you already own any previous form of this game (Playstation, Dreamcast) there is very little incentive for you to pick this one up, especially with Capcom deciding that they'll just sell them for $40. I could understand $20 maybe, even $25 at the most, but no one should be taken advantage of like that. Capcom only ported the games with hopes of capitalizing on the market who had hopefully not played any of the RE games before they hit Gamecube. Even those who didn't most likely have a PS1 or PS2 and they can find the same game on that system for like $10. Don't let yourself be taken advantage of.

Overall this game is still good, and a worthy installment in the series, but Capcom's obvious laziness definitely brings down what could have been an oustanding game had it have at least been touched up. As it stands RE 3: Nemesis is solid, but not a necessary purchase if you own the original. If you have never played the game, and don't own a PS1 or PS2, then I'd say pick it up if you can find it at a reasonable price. Don't expect anything near the level or Resident Evil or Resident Evil 0, because this game does not stack up. It had a lot more potential, but Capcom just got lazy. What a shame.

Same graphics, BUT scary!

We all know now the RE is almost the top selling game on the GCN, Zero is above it, but the downfall of 2 isn't. Yet again, another waist of waiting, Resident Evil 3: Nemesis came out. Same Graphics, but more zombies. Cheap looking gore, but scary scenery. Nemesis is the only new improved thing in the game. Now instead of big blob of polygons, it is a well done creature. The addition of female, male, fat and skinny zombies makes you feel like, "Hey, that looks like my girl friend. DIE!". That is cool and makes the game scary. The fire and smashed cars and the cramped city is just plainly scary. Still, it would've done better if CapCom wasn't so lazy! But I would recomend buying this one for the GameCube. Scare you later!

This game will be good but could have been better with additional scenes, rooms, weapons and more. All of the RE games are worth playing but for a game with just updated graphics [this price] is...unrealistic and greedy.

Dated but thrilling

Resident Evil 3: Nemesis was originally released for the Playstation, and has now been ported to Gamecube so that players can enjoy the Resident Evil series on one console. After the events of the original game, Raccoon City has been overrun by zombies and heroine Jill Valentine must make her last escape.

This game is still a solid experience after half a decade. The controls (once you get past the usual Resident Evil stiffness) are solid, and minor enhancements have been tagged onto the gameplay; the 180-degree turn makes it debut here, which allows players to quickly spin around when being confronted by a zombie hoard. Another thing I've always liked about RE3 is how it allows you to really explore the ruins of Raccoon city, something only hinted at in Resident Evil 2. The main story here isn't quite as strong as other installments in the series, but its still gripping enough to pull you in. Plus there's always the relentless Nemesis and his rocket launcher to worry about.

Is this game worth the purchase on Gamecube? If you can't play the other versions (Playstation, Dreamcast, PC) and hold the overall gaming experience above dated graphics, then yes. But I'd suggest looking for a used copy first if possible.

Pick this one up if you don't already have it

This is one of my favorite RE games of all time. I was surprised that they were releasing it onto the GC so I checked it out.

It is just like the second one by which I mean its just a port. Buy this if you can only buy it on this console or if you're an impatient person. The real difference between this game and the PS1 game is that the loading times are way faster.

The storyline is self-explanatory, your trying to escape town while a giant monster stalks you with heavy weaponry.

I loved the Nemesis, he was a great idea for this series. I remember when I first saw him and was terrified so I chose the option to run into the Police Station. While inside, he attacked again. I ran into the next room, thinking it would be safe when, BAM! he kicks the door down and starting firing a rocket launcher at me and those in my path, namely the undead.

There are many moments like this involved in this game, which make it all the more frightning and entertaining. The other feature I like in this game is the command system where what you say determines the outcome of the game. It reminds me of those adventure books where it was like "If you want to follow the villian, turn to page 117; If you want to go to the Library, turn to page 50."

Anyway, only pick up this game if you can't find it for any other console.

Pros
- One of the best games in the series, a must-have
- Faster loading times
- The ability to choose your path

Cons
- Graphics could be redone, instead we get a port of the PS1 game
- There's nothing different from this game or the PS1 game

THIS GAME IS GREAT, BUT ONLY BUY IT IF YOU DON'T HAVE A PS1 OR PS2 BECAUSE THE GRAPHICS ARE EXACTLY THE SAME AS THE PS1 GAME, AND DO NOT DO THE GAMECUBE JUSTICE...GREAT GAME THOUGH!

Not as original as RE1, not as innovative as RE2

I read somewhere that RE3 seems like a bonus disk for RE2. I agree. Nothing's really new. RE1 introduced us to the series. It was original and scary. RE2 offered improved graphics and, in my opininon, a more complex Resident Evil experience. RE3 in my mind is RE2 with different maps and enemies. Not a total waste of time, but I'd encourage you to try RE4 if you haven't already.
