Maybe I picked up a rogue bootleg copy of this PSP title, but it seems like everybody else here was diggin on this and I was just..well not. The missions are repetitive, the variety of guns/armor/villains are nonexistant, and the aiming on the wee PSP screen is barely a pinprick. It's also shorter than any video game I've every played. Side by side to GTA Vice City stories this is basically a mini-game. I'd say if you find it used for less than $10 and need something to do on an airplane go for it. But if you're playing the PSP as a gaming engine in and of itself, take a pass.

It's fun and easy to learn to play. Simple controls and good graphics.

Experience the crime busting action of Miami in style, in this short, but fun shooter

In Miami Vice, you get to relive the experience of being either Crockett or Tubbs, the crime busting duo from the movie of the same name that has recently appeared in theatres. Not only do you get to break the law, but you get to do it in style. (And all in the name of peace, of course)
From a first glance, the opening level takes us to what seems to be the normal first person shooter. You get an arsenal of two weapons (which have laser aiming) and you are thrown right in. The game is mostly straightforward - there aren't any gadgets or other devices many modern first person shooters employ. You are just a normal cop, who has a little leeway over the drug dealers (and barons) of crime ridden Miami.
Which brings us to an innovative menu system which is seen right after the first level. Unlike the normal level after level transition, you get to scour the city, doing various things in order to improve reputation, make cash, upgrade\purchase weapons, or to find about the next mission.
This is where Miami Vice departs from the norm. In sixteen days (which translates into sixteen business `deals') you have to accomplish those off-mission tasks just mentioned. The buying and selling of drugs can be used to make money, but of course, spending it wisely is far more important. There are also "hacking" mini-games, which are an absolute waste of time, and provide frustrating interludes from the great action and pace of the single player.
The game-play is very easy to understand and learn. There isn't a lot of "oh-that's what that does" stuff. The graphics are good - even superb, but probably not exceptional. The game is well formed, but is far too short for to be purchased. There is little to not replay value in Miami Vice (save for starting over and switching characters). There are not really any control issues - although this is interesting, since there aren't any camera controls either.
I highly recommend this game to anyone who would like to play a great game over a weekend.

GRAPHICS: 9/10 (Wonderful graphics, but characters' overlays are used over and over)

SOUND: 6/10 (Guns sound fairly powerful, soundtrack is so-so. Enemies say the same things over and over again.)

CONTROLS: 9/10 (I liked the freedom the controls brought to the PSP. Free aim is a lot more fun, ducking and crouching allows for reloads no-problem.)

DIFFICULTY: 4/10 (The game is naturally easy, but the various upgrades to weapons, armor, hints about each level, and easy cash from drug dealers makes it far easier.)

LOAD TIMES: LOW (Very decent load times.)

OVERALL: 8/10 (Great game, worth renting, only because it is SO short. You will get little over four or so hours of fun from this one.)

Great. Fun and the best physics I have ever seen.

A game based on the original show is what I really want to see. Still though this isn't a bad shooter game to play when you're bored. Some people don't like the controls but I think they aren't that bad. You just point the laser scope from your gun at bad guys and shoot. It's not the greatest game I ever played but at least it's not as bad as it could've been. It's been then I thought it would be. I was afraid I shouldn't have ordered it without seeing the ratings for it first. When I started playing I was glad to see it really isn't that bad.

After missions you can go undercover and sell the drugs you picked up during missions to make more money to buy more guns or just stylish suits. I'm sure some people will bash it saying it could be a lot better but it isn't bad for what it is. If you have a friend with a psp too, you can team-up as Crockett and Tubbs and take out bad guys at the same time. So it's probably even more fun playing it that way. If you are a grown-up considering getting it for your kid though, beware there is a lot of strong language.

Unexpected Awesomeness!!!!!!

Okay,.. let me start by saying this: Miami Vice for PSP has Resident Evil 4 controls!!!!!!! Yeah,.. that's right. It plays like RE4. It fits the single analog control of the PSP perfectly!

Now that I've got your attention,.. I'll give you the details.

In single player you can play as either Crockett or Tubbs,.. and then you promptly start a mission and blow the crap out of 10000000 thugs who all have guns and take cover. You can take cover, too. Just like in Syphon Filter you can hug any wall or object and shoot around the corner.

You collect drugs that you find in the missions and can sell them to dealers for money or deposit them in the police station. You can buy clothes and body armor and choose your weapons load out before every mission (which includes the basic pistol as well as shotgun and SMG and assault rifle and sniper rifle as well as some of these silenced. You can have only two guns on you in a mission. One rifle and one single handed gun.)

The simple fact that the game uses RE4 style gameplay means that simply shooting these same thugs over and over again is fun!!! They even have zone damage like in RE4,.. (shoot them in the legs and make them limp and fall,.. shoot them in the head for a one shot kill.)
You can even upgrade your guns like in RE4,.. except instead of just buying upgrades, you find "flash roms" or something and "hack" them in order to get the upgrade. (hacking is basically a mini-game where you're an arrow making floating cubes flash,. I haven't figured that part out yet.)
There are boat missions,.. but I haven't played those yet so I can't comment on them.

And it has cooperative multiplayer!! You and a buddy can play through the missions together and watch each others back as you both gun down thugs RE4 style!!!!

It ROOOOOOOOOOOOCCCCKKKKKSSSS!!!!

Wow! If your hesitating on this game, do me a favor and slap yourself! Then go get it! In comparison to other shooters...Miami Vice is a Grand Theft Auto/Syphon Filter type game. In other words, you have the freedom to visit different areas in Miami (using a GPS map like system) to make drug busts, make drug deals, and of course weapon up! The guns are filthy which incude but are not limited to; MP5, Auto shotty (to the body), Colt .45, M16, and like 4-5 other types of up to date guns! The infared laser is nice and is equiped with all of the guns w/ exceptions of course. the controls have a low learning curve...so your moms or your girl can pick it up and shoot! THE GREAT: the interactive use of al environment objects to take cover is essential and at the same time hot! Leaning around corners, jumping over desks, and head shots are well put together! Is it gory? well if you have seen the movie A History of Violence...yup its like that son!

THE BAD: on the real, all of the environments seem to be dark. I have read other reviews about this but straight up, im a gamer, and I gets my kills anywhere any time! Thats it!

BOTTOM LINE: I have had my PSP for some time now...There has been games that i use to wipe with and games like Miami Vice that i will nerd out to! GO GET! its worth every penny! And if you dont like it, it cann be educational on the selling and buying of narcotics! MOMS beware, for 41dollaz your child can get a sweet test of money, drugs, and killin!
