Amazing!

I was online one day and I read a review for this game. The review said the game was really good, so I rented it. The review was right. This is now my favorite game. It has elements from my two former favorite games, Splinter Cell and Knights of the Old Republic. It has a lot of stealth fun in it and it has many side-missions that are really fun beat. To add to that, I really like the health system that the game has. 4 or more squares of health that slowly get smaller in size when attacked until one square disappears. If the square is does not completely vanish, it will grow to normal size and Riddick regains health. However, I also like the weapons and various attacks. On the downside, saving can be a bit annoying. I thought the game saved automatically at a certain spot, but it turned out it didn't. I had to complete all of the side-missions again. I would give this game a lower rating because of that, but the missions are really fun so I didn't mind as much. The voice-acting and graphics are also awesome. With the voices of Xzibit and Vin Diesel, it seems as if this game really is a movie. And Riddick's graphics look so much like Vin Diesel. To conclude, this game has it all. Outstanding graphics, nice music and sound effects and voice-acting, high replay value, and it is really fun. I haven't played the Xbox Live version yet but I imagine its really fun. Be aware that this game does have a lot of blood and violence and curse words. If that kind of stuff doesn't bother you, buy it! I definitely will when I can save up enough money.

Short but sweet

This game might just be the best 1st person shooter I have ever played for x box. Usually 1st person shooters have not translated well from PC to x-box, becuase the shooting mechanism was neither as accurate or quick as PC. This game overcomes this by accelerating the "mouse look" or right analog stick as you turn around, enabling you to spin quickly around and kill targets either in the air or on the ground without sacrificing accuracy. This simple enhancement makes playing so much more enjoyable as you arent struggling with the controller to kill people that are coming from above or behind. I cannot emphasize enough how this should revolutionize fps's for the x box from here on in, i expect to see this in doom 3 and games alike. The story line is terrific and the cut scenes are very real and movie-like, probably the best cut scenes around. I love the fact that you hear real cussing throughout...this is a prison setting and the game is rated mature so no one should [...] about this. However it was a bit disconcerting at first to hear the prison guards call me a m*therf*cker, but it totally ads to the realism and the profanity is by no means gratitutious. The enemy AI is good and the fact that your vision changes a bit in stealth mode is another step i wonder why more game makers havent thought of before. Also your sight changes to a blue tint when no one can see you, this is brilliant, because you dont need a bunch of indicators telling you on the screen what is going on.In fact, this is the first game ive played that doesnt use screen indicators all over the screen to tell you whats going on. Your life bar only pops up when you need it, such as in a fight or what not. The sound is very good, gritty and the 5.1 mix is very accurate. My only complaint with this game was that is was too short, i finished it in around 15 hours (3 days - 5 hours a day). I dont play games that long , 5 hours at a stretch, but this game was compulsively playable and immersive, only splinter cell can compare with this for the immersion factor. Im undecided as to the replayability of this game, the jury is still out with that one. There are a few puzzles (nothing too mind twisting) that have to be worked out and it is open ended , you can get lost in ventilation tubes and end up somewhere totally off course , but just adds to the game. Lastly, this game is the only fps i have encountered that actually uses stealth as an active part of the game, if you change down certain bosses or foes, youd get creamed....lurking in the shadows waiting to snap someones neck is a thrill. This is the best fps thats out there and its not only well done and thought out but very entertaining and original. I would definately recommend this game to one and all.

Admendment: I do love the game, but be forewarned, the replay value is not good, after i beat it I kinda lost the zeal for it and the lack of x box live buried it for me, try renting it, youll finish it in a couple days.

Best graphics on XBOX ever!

First the movie surprised me and then the game. When I heard there was going to be a new Riddick movie, I just knew it would be garbage. And when I saw the game in Circuit City, I almost burst out laughing. I WAS WRONG ! The movie was decent, but the game is where its at. These graphics are the best I've ever seen. It makes you wonder how games with crappy graphics ever make it on the shelves. This is how every game should look on xbox. Right after I played this game I went and bought HALO 2 and I thought those graphics sucked. HALO 2 graphics don't suck but my point is that this game will spoil the heck out of you. The one bad thing I'll say is that sometimes its hard to figure out what to do and where to go. You will wander around a bit. Other than that this is one of the best games I ever played. You can use stealth, or go in guns/fists blazing. But be warned, this game is short so rent it or buy it cheap.

Riddick Rules

This is an amazing game. It's incredibly addictive. The game combines some RPG type of elements with a stealth first person shooter, and the results are amazing. Vin Diesel was deeply involved in the game, and the results are incredible. The graphics are the best I've seen yet, and the action (from fist fights to using shivs) are awesome.

If you're a fan of Pitch Black, get this game. It is worth it.

good, but way too short for the $50 i paid!

Developers take note of Riddick

Game developers need to follow in the footsteps of Vivendi's Chronicles of Riddick: Escape from Butcher Bay. Although the game has some glitches, by and large I found myself wholly impressed by the graphics and overall presentation. Some of the lighting effects rival the Splinter Cell series and the voice acting is bested only by GTA 3 Vice City. When your character gains the shiny-eye ability later in the game it opens up tons of possibilities for executing your foes without their knowledge of your presence. It seems too often a game is hyped long before its release only to disappoint. This game however came out of nowhere with little fanfare and delivers a solid game. With graphics such as these, there is no excuse for other developers not to utilze the Xbox's hardware to its fullest. The only reason for not getting all 5 stars was its slight linearity, but definitely worth a purchase.

Dark Brutal Game Experience

Let's just get to the gist of what this game has; probably the best graphics to date I've seen in an XBOX game, excellent use of light and shadow for stealth, very good enemy A.I., brutal language, sound, and imagery (exactly the type of stuff you'd expect in a vicious prison environment), and an involving storyline. There were a few graphical anomalies here and there (e.g. "seams" visible in some character models, mouth movement not very articulated in some scenes) and load times can be a little annoying, but these really take nothing away from the overall presentation and game play elements. Using shadows as a means of ambushing an approaching sentry is one of my favorite game play elements so far.

I'm only about an hour into the game, but thus far, Butcher Bay has been an incredibly visceral and exciting experience. This game is easy to recommend to anyone who's into the action and/or stealth genres (think Splinter Cell meets Halo for a general idea).

Story based "Adult" First Person Shooter

5 Rating: 5, Useful: 3 / 4

**Not for children**

Butcher Bay happens to fit the niche nicely. After Half-Life 2 there was only really the Call of Duty: United Offensive as a good first person shooter (Doom 3 being an older game now and Far Cry also... you should play all of these if you have not). Riddick comes off the back of a very bad sequel to the surprise hit Pitch Black. Here we actually play a game that should maybe have been the sequel. It is certainly heaps better.

The premise is very good. You are Riddick in a maximum security prison somewhere on a planet with inmates voiced by leading actors and facial expressions that are nearly as good as HL2. The atmosphere of the prison is A+ as you go about the place taking on various missions in the cells (fighting, buying drugs, snubbing out bosses, causing a riot, doing jobs for people) so that you can... escape Butcher Bay.

The menu is astonishing at first as it opens up like a cube and the buttons move around. Riddick is mostly about stealth moves, like grabbing people from behind and either slicing them or breaking their neck. You can get into hand-to-hand combat where the enemies face actually bruises and bleeds. Clubs and knives have a similar effect. The story breaks nicely at the end of each level where you meet your foes. Riddick banters off some classic one-liners and there is quite a bit of swearing. You can talk to some of the characters and choose your answers.

Once the prison riot starts, you are given weapons to escape the prison and the real rush begins (Doom 3 type fast and furious blasting). Enemy AI is quite good and the game plays very smoothly from start to finish. For all intensive purposes, the game play is very much like DEUS EX but the graphics are a way better. It is surprising how long this game is, given that it just seems like a movie tie-in package. It is not. This is a FULLY FLEDGED first person shooter all the way.

It seems that high-end graphics "adult" first person shooters are back again! Bottom line is to play it.

Pros:
- Great Story
- Great Graphics
- As good as any new 1st person shooter.
- It is long.

Cons:
- Not enough stealth jump moves.
- Enemy AI can sometimes get a little repetitive.
- Needs a fast high spec machine to run properly.

Great Game from a Movie!

Great graphics and great gameplay! The only problem is the aiming of your weapon, but overall this is a fantastic game! Superb storyline, great levels, good replay, this is just great. Get it!
