Hunk of crap

This the worst game I have played in a long time. Do not be fooled by commercals, it is not that fast paced and the controls are garbage. So in conclusion- PURE GARBAGE! The people who made this should be forced to play it forever.

Another overhyped title by Xbox.

Driver 3 is plagued by horrible controls, interactivity and sub par graphics. First of all you accelerate with trigger, which hurts your finger after awhile, the sensitivity is LOW, controls are inverted. Your characters movements also seem unreal. Graphics could've been alot better. Gameplay is average. I know its a large game but what I've seen with other titles Driv3r's just plain sucks. Alot of ideas were adopted from GTA also. GTA 3 is so much better than this. It seems like Atari rushed this title towards the end.

AWFUL....Don't waste your money...wait for GTA:San Andreas

I was one of the many people who eagerly awaited Driv3r's release. I have been playing this game most of the day, and have been completely unimpressed by the game altogether. In some ways, i enjoy the game. The look of Miami is impressive and expansive and the vehicles are fun, interesting and realistically tough to drive. Unfortunately, that is about all there is to say on the positive side. The graphics and movements of the characters are awful and the gameplay is painfully slow. If you fail a mission, prepare for extended re-viewed cutscenes and immediate replay over and over. As i enjoy the "realism" of the game and the hyped ability to enter houses, buildings and the like, the negatives far outweigh the positives. I don't know how to best describe it, but this game far from met any expectations i have had. The previews were cool and so are the ones for GTA, but this one definetly doesnt have the gusto. Rent it if you really wanna give it a try, but dont waste your well-earned cash my friends, this one's a stinker.

Argh... It's like 1998 all over again!

Way back in the olden days I played a game called Driver for PC (what a rush), car physics were funky and cool, Miami at night was moody and mysterious and the cop chases... well for get about it, it was great! And all that painful pop-up? Come on it was 1998 after-all. Well here we are, it's 2004, Driv3r has been loooong awaited by those of us who adored the first offering from Reflections and now that we have it, all I can say is... "what the h#ll?!" I'll only review this on the graphics merits, so if you like the game play and can numb yourself to the absolutely pathetic textures look away now. Talk about pop-up, "holy.. where did that car come from Batman", the AI vehicles (not to mention buildings trees, power poles and peds) appear out of nowhere not more than a block away at times, they don't fade in, they just appear like some crazy magic trick. Textures tear and flicker and quite frequently disappear all together just to reappear again. Now mind you the lighting effects are beautiful (note Miami at dusk bathed in that golden tropical glow), but there is absolutely very little draw distance and the unbelievable amount of graphics glitches that are found at ever turn are utterly disappointing and inexcusable, they may have passed muster back in the day but not at a time when Project Gothem 2 and Grand Tourismo rule the roads. I went back and ran PG2 and recounted Wreckless last night just to make sure I wasn't being too hard on poor old Driv3r but I came away being even harder on it. Great video games start with (can you imagine) great graphics! Call me a graphics geek but if a title can't draw me in visually then the journey for me and that title will be a short one. How the creative teams at Reflections and finally Microsoft let this pass to distribution with so many bugs to work out is beyond me, Xbox has so much riding on the quality of the games to sell itself that allowing such a shoddy example of workmanship find a place on store shelves is inexcusable. On the upside however Driv3rs' opening cut scene is the most cinematic I've ever seen, and frankly stunning! The levels (cities) are huge and exacting in their detail but the clipping and over-all poor graphics execution relegates what could have easily been one heck of a game to the "should-a, could-a, would-a" file. Simply put... I was expecting so much more and got far less than I could have ever imagined from Driv3r and how sad.

Impressive Game

I know this game has dissapointed a lot of fans, but before anyone dismisses this review, for being too generous, there are plenty of very unpolished aspects to this game, but I also have plenty of reasons as to why this game is worth playing.
Comparing this game to the Grand Theft Auto series has already been done countless times, but it simply cannot be helped. This game will attract the same audience, and plays, at least on paper, very much the same as Rockstar's series. However, this game is NOT Grand Theft Auto. Sure, you can steal cars, and wreak havoc in three huge cities, but that's pretty much where the similarities end. Unlike GTA's free-roaming gameplay, which allows presents players with multiple missions at once, and allows gamers to tackle them in the order they choose, Driv3r's story mode is completely linear. You'll be given one mission at a time, and the story will progress much like a movie. Most of the game has you behind the wheel of one of a huge selection of vehicles ranging from motorcycles, to boats, to eighteen-wheelers. There aren't liscensed cars from real car manufacturers, but these vehicles take such a realitic beating, I can't imagine why a real car company would want to see their cars in the game. You'll play through three realisticly modeled cities, all of which look and feel picture perfect, and very real. You'll start in Miami, and eventually work your way through missions in Nice and Istanbul. But not all of the game takes place in a car, about a fifth of it has you on foot, gunning through enemies in either a third or first-person perspective. While, this can be fun for a while, the aiming is a bit touchy, and the enemies never move, or duck for cover. They simply stand, shoot, and get shot. Plus, the range of moves your character, (returning serie's star Tanner, voiced by Michael Madsen of Kill Bill) is given is extremely limited. You can: run, walk, shoot, duck, and roll forward. There aren't any slow-mo dives like in Max Payne, no pressing against walls and jumping out from corners like in Metal Gear, no taking hostages like the Getaway; just very straightforward running and shooting. You're given a handful of weapons, including handguns, machine guns, and a grenade launcher, which will send cars flying, or simply shatter them into auto parts. You can, however, shoot out tires, windshields, windows, and bumpers, which is cool, plus the game models bullet-holes on the car's bodies which is cool if you are going to toy around with the game's Film Director mode, which was featured in the first two installments in the series but has been completely re-wroked for this game. But I'll get into that later.
So, shooting is a bit disappointing, but still dumb fun. But driving is flawless. Speeding through three real world cities, through alleyways, around corners... It is isn't only fun, it's almost addicting. Each car controls uniqely, so don't expect an eighteen wheeler to control like a sports car.
The driving missions can be a lot of fun, but mostly consists of just a few scenarios that keep repeating: escape from a tail, chase a car, or drive to a location and start shooting.
The game offers players three different game mode's: Undercover mode, which is the game's story mode, Driving Games mode, which offers players a number of short but effective minigames with which to perfect their driving skills, and Take a Ride mode, which is basically the game's go-anywhere mode, where you are free to roam the three cities without time limits or missions.
But, in my opinion, the real reason to play this game is the Film Director's mode. As an aspiring director, this mode has been the reason I have purchased each installment of this series, but casual players should really dig it as well. Plus,it has been re-worked, and re-tooled, making it more powerful, and easier to use. Basically, Film Dircetor let's you save a replay from a mission you've played, and mini-game you've run through, or even from the Take a Ride mode, and then choose your own camera angles, locations, and effects, and direct it from the beginning. This time, Film Director includes some options which I have been hoping would appear in the Driver series for sometime: It gives you new camera angles, which include a rotating Chase cam, and a wheel-cam, (positoioned behind the front-right wheel), plus it offers you returning camera angles including first-person perspective, and tripods. This time players can control the tripod's zoom completely. But, best of all, picture effects have also been included. You can now add slow-motion or motion-blur to your replays, which are two ways to better illustrate the game's realistic crashes and destruction.
The game, while not including blood, still earns it's mature rating, by letting players hit pedestrians, (a first for the series) and shoot innpcent civilians and policemen, even while the citizens are still behind the wheel of their car.
All in all, though, if you look past the violence, this is an impressive game, with terrific visuals, and amazing physics.

GOOD BUT WAIT FOR DRIVER:PARALLEL LINES!

Driver:You are the Wheelman:1999,the PS1 got a huge game put on the console that had free to roam driving, introduction to the DRIVER series.
DRIVER 2:Yep-i consider this a PS1 classic,SCREW GTA1 and GTA2-they were the biggest embarrasments the PS1 have expeirenced.the only ppl who would call them Classic are GTA fanboys or ppl with mental issues.D2 was the first game in 3D for you to be able to jack cars of the sunday drivers-people the 3D age is the new age-and its sik how people forgot Driver 2.
DRIV3R:Not really much of a step-it was badly recieved by gamers since it wasn`t good.fucussed more on trying to beat GTA3 and so on then being driver itself.
DRIVER:PARALLEL LINES:
Weird name but the names unusual and i like non-common names
People PLEASE don`t criticise the game for not "Beating GTA" as its going to return to the Driver roots since DRIV3R was a big dissapointment. You can do what you did in D1,D2 and D3 but the story is more about driving then GTA style things.Driving away from the cops never get boring, chaffeur the gold heads around and bank robbers, tail rivals, use yourself as bait and lead others into death traps.

If you are interested in DRIVER and want a GTA style game-get DRIV3R if you want a more rubber burning driving style game-get Driver:Parallel Lines when it comes out.D:PL has everything its predessors had so if you feel like GTA style freedom go on the infamous "Take A Ride".If you want DRIVER history get Driver 1 and Driver 2 from the ole PS1.
So when D:PL comes out don`t expect anything to rival GTA-Just expect classic driving action.
i expect this game on GameSpot and IGN to get atleast 8.2.
I do have a question about this game though...Where is Tanner exactly now we take the role of someone else an 18 year old called TK who in the first part of the game is an 18 year old but soon in the game goes to jail for 20 years and gets out and starts criminal activty again.
My guess is that Tanner busts TK and those 20 years later-I guess TK KILLS Tanner! who won`t be that old by 2006(the 2nd part of the game is set in 06) about 50 or 60.
I have a PS2,GC and currently waiting for a XBox(original) to arrive and i have a mass of games planned for XBox,including D:PL as it might be better than the PS2 version,y`know graphics and that and it will be the same price(I ain`t spoiled,i bought all my self except for the PS2-which i got of my mum for my birthday 2002-i still adore my PS2)-Unless of coarse the XBox version won`t be available so i will settle for the PS2 version.
It might comeout on PSP.
D:PL will also have ONLINE PLAY on XBox(XBox LIVE) and PS2-that give it a small boost in sales-But if the game is GOOD/GREAT + ONLINE-i reckon it will do good in sales for itself,it might sell 4,000,000 copies in total if it does well that is-maybe more, maybe less.
So Atari might forget about the blak and white DRIV3R.

So i hope no fans have lost faith in DRIVER yet!!!!!!!!!!!

Bye.

A difficult but fun game

This game is difficult and takes a while to get used to. But it's worth it. Now if you don't like driving or let alone difficult games then don't even bother reading on.

Like the previous Driver games, there is storymode where you drive from one location to another. The missions are quite difficult which takes alot of practice. Some you might be repeating more than a couple of times (especially towards the end of the game). There is also a new feature that they added. Unlike the previous games, you can use weapons. This makes the game more realistic other than driving the whole time.

The graphics are just beautiful. It seems like you're really there and the explosions of the cars are just fun to watch. Another good thing is the music. And not just the game music, I mean your own music. The only problem is everytime you repeat a mission the music plays from the beginning again and again. It can get annoying.

Overall, this game is worth it, but it's definitely a challenge and takes alot of practice. But if you can handle that, then I suggest you buy this game immediatly. (my opinion for XBox)

i don't like alot of car games but I thought I should have gave a shot and wished I hadn't. The car handleing sucks, the take a ride sucks which is just you driving a round doing nothing fun, and I can't even get past the 2 level because you have to chase some guy down and you cant even do that. Don't even rent this or buy it for 1 dollar its not worth it.

better than the previews
