Yeah I brought this game and it scared the living daylights out of me. I love this game alot! Would Highly recommend it to anyone who is a gamer and don't mind that the antique camera is your only weapon. This game will keep you up at night and wonder about ghosts and such. I love searching for haunted houses and such so I love scary games and yet still afraid of playing this game at night. Overall, GREAT GRAPHICS!!!!

Frustrating but alot of spooky fun !!!!

FATAL FRAME, only in the states is it called this and im guessing thats cause some idiot thought that the yanks needed a title that clearly related to the camera weapon used in the game. The game is actually called Project Zero and tells the story of a young girl searching for her brother in a haunted mansion. The basis of the game is to shoot ghosts with yah camera and solve puzzles along the way. Some ghosts are easy, others are more difficult and some are near impossible.

First of all you have got to really persist with this game to get the hang of the controls. I would recommend to anyone that they rent this game before buying to see if they could hack the control of the main character. However, if you persist your patience will be payed off with some excellent game play , scenery and sound.

Secondly, this is a survival horror game that has both a interesting story and excellent immuersion. Once you have got the hang of the game your are not gunna wanna leave it because the story, as it unfolds, is just that good.

Thirdly, im in my late twenties and prefer more adult orientated games , (hence why i brought an x box), and i don't scare that easily. To be honest i would not say that i was ever scared in this game . I always question why some reviewers go on that they were so scared while playing survival horror.I can only think that most of the reviewers are early teens who think that a flickering light in a empty hall is scarey. I mean i love the genre too but scared is a strong emotion and i didn't feel it with this game. I think the best word i can use is ' tense '. There are tense moments in this game when u will hear a ghost, know it is there and tense up ready but folks that aint scared. The ghosts though are all really good and the game does have a pretty good spooky vibe too it. Maybe i was too busy dreading having to fumble with the controls while stuck on an object or wall to really allow myself to get scared.Who knows but anyone who pays bills, works and has a family has more to get scared about than a game.

Fourthly, The graphics and sound are really good and though dark in a lot of places, the torch you carry is more than suffciant to see with. The sound is outstanding with creeking floorboards, moaning, dropping water, wailing and distant screams all adding to the atmosphere.

Finally, have to say that once i got use to the controls, (which WILL drive yah batty till yah get use to it), this was a great horror game to play. I still prefer Silent Hill 2 over this, (have you seen Marie ??), but i am going to buy this game and add it to my collection, (wish they would release Resident Evil for x box), as i love survival horror games and there aint many for the x box.

NOTE:

* Took me forever to realise that by pressing the B button i could run before that i though the character was slow as but hey im a little slow lol !!!

* I gave the game 3 stars which to me is a bit better than average. It loses two point as the controls surely could of been made a tad easier and, (as others have mentioned),the getting stuck on a wall while fighting and swinging camera shots can drive you insane. However, i did get the hang of the controls and after about 3 hours of gameplay i was cruising.

Overall: Rent it, stick with it for a couple of hours at least, get addicted and then buy it. An above average game with a great unfolding story and some wicked ghosts !!!!!!!

Say Cheese........AHHHHHHHHHH !!

I have read so many reviews where people are confused by the fact that the main character uses a camera so I thought that I would explain. In some Asian cultures some people believed that when you take a picture it captures a part of your soul.

I played this game when it was first released so I'm going to give a general review of the game and how it has held up after the few years that have past.

I didn't know what to expect when I got this game and boy was I scared and impressed by it. This game is very well made, the story is truly twisted like nothing I have ever seen. The gameplay is great and never gets boring and the suspense and horror is very intense.

IMO, nothing since has topped this game in terms of being the most atmospheric and disturbing.

I recommend this game to anyone who enjoys movies like "The Ring" and "The Grudge". Imagine being in those movies, the creepiness/scary factor is even stronger!

ENJOY =)

First I have to say that the graphics in this game are good as well as the storyline and puzzles. That's why I gave this game two stars. However, the problems I found in playing the game are as follows.

1) The game was not thoroughly tested. It's possible in more than one place to find yourself in a situation that you can't get out of. By situation I mean where your health is so low, and the ghost is so relenting that you can't escape or continue the game. You have to go back to a previously saved game slot and replay your steps and activities in order to avoid the situation.

2) Not a true 3D environment. The camera angles throughout the game are fixed which makes the character control counter-intuitive. You may be running in one direction when the camera angle suddenly changes and now you're, suddenly, pressing the wrong direction on the controller and the character begins running the opposite way. This is very frustrating when you're trying to get into position to fight a ghost, or just move around. Also, the game is not forgiving when it comes to positioning the character in front of objects or doors. If you're not lined up precisely, and I mean to the pixel, you won't be able to open the door or pick up the object. Very frustrating.

3) The writers were very cheap with health points. When you consider that one attack from a ghost can reduce your health by as much as 50%, and you must often endure several attacks before killing the ghost, this doesn't leave you with much of a chance and you continually find yourself starting over and over.

4) 'Game Over?' How long has it been since games used that outdated play mode? Nowadays when you die you're simply prompted if you wish to 'Restart?'. When you die in this game you're 'forced' to relaunch the game from the opening title screen and go through all the redundant steps to get back to where you were when you died. If that isn't bad enough you're constantly asked to confirm your selections increasing the already repetitious steps. How lame is that?

It's really too bad. This game could have been very good if it weren't for the outdated design and play modes.

I, obviously, don't recommend this game. If you still wish to play it I do recommend that you take full advantage of all the 'Game Saves slots' that are available. You'll find yourself having to backtrack a lot to get out of inescapable situations.

Watch the spooky meter!

My cousin just recently bought this game and we already love it. You play as Miku, a young girl searching for her lost brother in a haunted mansion. Armed only with her inherited sixth sense and antique camera against the ruthless ghost. The story line draws you in from the beginning with its gorgeous graphics and creepy astrosphere. You find yourself jumping and becoming paranoid, always on the look out for another spook that would like to see Miku dead. The only drawbacks are the limited film, save points, and life preserves you find in the game. It's not really a problem just another challenge and a bit frustrating some times. This game is unique and brings some life back into the horror genre games. It's like being in a horror movie yourself. I recommend this game to anyone who likes something new, fun, or just likes to be scared.

Wickedly horrific game. . .

I love this game. It quite simply terrifies me.

I pondered buying it in Blockbuster because it was in the used section and I was looking for a cheap game, but because so many horror games turn out to be flakey I opted to rent it first. After the first ten minutes of gameplay, I did not plan to buy it. In fact, I wanted to stay as far away from it as I could get, it creeped me out so much. But I kept playing, and got so wrapped up in the storyline and cut scenes that I decided to buy it despite the fact that every time I play it, I get achey from being all tensed up.

Although some people have described Fatal Frame's plot as "mediocre," I think it's absolutely fantastic. Here we have a Japanese teenager walking into a dark, isolated mansion in search of her missing brother. Immediately, a ghost shows up. "The ropes," he groans. "There are more ropes. The ropes..." And we open the door into the Rope Room (which is one of the creepiest, in my opinion) and learn later that the ropes swinging from the rafters were being slowly added because the house ghosts had Koji's death in mind. As the story is unraveled, we learn about the evil rituals the Himuro family participated in, and meet Kirie, who is an intriguing "villain." It's strangle proper that when her two selves separate after death and the Calamity comes, it is the child-like half, who understood the necessity of the ritual and her terrible role in it, rather than her adult self who longs to be free, who remains good. I haven't beat the game yet (I am stuck, I think I am going to have to start over, and I am on the third night), but I am still quizzical about the purpose of the gruesome Blinding Ritual, and who it was who takes part in it. Although I pity the Blind Maiden, her ghost is incredible annoying. Every time I hear someone say "My eyes" I cringe. And I like how the storywriters played with the fine line in good in evil - although the Demon Ritual is cruel and horrifying, the player also understands the need for it to be done.

The graphics are also great. Not very interactive, but I never noticed because I was more concerned with other things. I found them very smooth. The controls weren't the best (every time I entered a room I would always turn around automatically and face the wall) but you get used to them. The sounds were FANTABULOUS. More perfect than anything I have ever encountered in videogames or movies. The music seems to come right out of a nightmare - the whole games does, really. It's like the creators knew what your deepest fears looked like and sounded like, and put them onto a game.

BUY THIS GAME. It is hellishly scary. I already have the sequel, and I can't wait to play it too.

This game is very cool, if you like scary games like Silent Hill, I would recomend getting this game. It is very fun, and freaks the hell out of you sometimes. Your goal is to try to find the main character's brother. There are lots of mysteries to solve in this game. Fatal Frame is really cool. Get it!

Great game...

Short and sweet review here. Nice and creepy, but not so scarey that it will hurt the enjoyment of gameplay. Same can be said of the difficultly levels, which rely more on focus and dexterity than anything else. Its not as good as the Silent Hill series, or Eternal Darkness, but its worth the purchase.

In reference to the review posted by the Ozzie "yank" yanker, the game's original title is "Fatal Frame", not "Project Zero". It was renamed "Project Zero" for European and South Pacific release, but carried the original title "Fatal Frame" in Japan, which carried over to releases in the United States, and Canada.

Different, I'll give you that!

For fans of the horror genre, this is a must have game. While this game has all the elements to be made into a great scary film, you won't be afraid to turn off the lights however after playing this. The story is told extremely well through cut-scenes and items such as newspaper clippings and tapes you pick up on your way. The controls are hard to get used to and their are a lot of clipping issues you have while trying to run from ghosts which can be frightning at times. I would say the scariest element in this game is the suspense you feel while entering certain rooms or hearing certain sounds. This game is more puzzle based and does not rely on a lot of fast paced action, but is a must have for horror fans!

Fatal Frame is really awesome!

Wow! This game is seriously cool and SCARY. By what the graphics are concerned, it is definately a five star rating. I have to question the viewing point and control handling. This game is really great and I would preffer this game for a person that is into Resident Evil, Evil Dead, or Silent Hill. I would also preffer this game for a mediocre player, for it is fun and difficult but too difficult for a begginner. Fatal Frame is really fun. The graphics are great and the story line is fabulous. There is a few flaws (One that I had mentioned earlier) so I will tell you all of them. The controls aren't very good and the way the screen shows (Camera veiw) isn't too well at all. It scares you half to death (Although that may not be such a bad thing to all the horror-survivor gamers out there). Overall and in conclusion, this game is a definate 5 star horror and survival game.
