Were these morons tripping on acid when they made this game?

This game is piss pore! And I'll give you a hole list of reasons not to buy this game. These are true FACTS!
First off.
Anyone with a brain stem knows that the game was rushed so Midway can plop out another game for Xbox before switching consoles, so that way they can screw you over just little bit further.

Second, the story itself didn't make any sense at all!It has nothing to do with its previous games, although you see "every character" in it.

And that brings me to my Third FACT. "Every character", well at least thats what they tell you. NOT like KIA, JAKAATA, TREMMOR, TALSA, and all the Elemental Gods. For those of you who don't know, those were characters in other MK games that turned out to be another flop.
And you see fighters doing all these cool moves in the opening trailer, like Shang Tsung's morphing moves that we all loved, is not in it. So its save to say that this game was sold to you under FALSE ADVERTISEMENT! In other words you've been had.

Forth, Half of the arenas are strait from MK Deception. Which goes to show you, just how lazy these Bastards really are.
[And did you notice that half of MKD arenas was off of MKDA?]

Fifth, The krypt is a joke, 80% of it filled with those crappy sketches that looks like a forth grader drew and photos of the retards that made this idiotic game. Thats like showing you the leftover crap that they didn't put in your a hot dog, "while your eating it".
And if thats not bad enough, in the krypt you get to unlock all the costumes that you've already seen before in their previous games! Well Whoopdeedo.

Sixth, Konquest is nothing like Deception, you can't freelance your way around a map like you used to or time meditate or anything cool like that.Instead they give you 4 lame powers and they are [time freeze] "that only last 5 sec" [fire ball] "yeah real original" [power punch] and [earth quake punch] thats it. You can finish this side game in about 3 hours maybe less.
Not only that but you'd think that Konquest will explain it all on how everyone survived in the previous games but it doesn't.

Seven, Oh and you can forget about those BIO'S to their not in in the game anymore. No if you want those you have to go online and download it. WTF!? And when you do, they still don't make any sense.
You can easily tell that the writers were making this s*** up as they go.

Eight, Kreate a Fatality was a good idea, but they should have given you the option to choose between that or new signature fatalities.

Nine, If there going to have weapons in the arenas, they should do away with character weapons. What good would it do if Shao Khan has a war hammer and then theres another one in the same arena?

And last is that ripoff Mario cart called Motor Kombat.
Who drunk the bong water when they came up with this?
I can't think of anything more dumber then to merge one of the most greatest, goriest games of all time to a preschool game thats just as entertaining as watching the attention spanned of George Bush. You know that little thing on the conner of the game cartridge? It says rated M for mature.
Thats like merging MTV to Sesame Street, hey lets watch Snoop Dog teach Big Bird on how to do crack. It just doesn't work.

The only thing I liked about the game was "and this was the ONLY thing" the idea of Kreate a Karacter, they should hold on to that one and improve it like making all kinds of players and have them installed into the profile memory and get to fight your own creations up the latter. But no, they managed to screw that up too. Like only giving you swords or axes. "Wow a lot to choose from there".

And MK is just not the same without "test your might/sight".

Bottom line, at least rent the game before you do something that your going to regret.

It's Ocotber and that means another Mortal Kombat game is served up by Midway for the current gen systems. When I first heard about this game in June, I was very excited because I really enjoyed the last 2 MK fighters. The promise of every character from the series, create a fighter and improved online play sounded great. Well, the game, which is fun to play, doesn't reach the classic 5 star rating that many have given it. I like it, but I gave it 3 stars, which to me, equals an average rating. This is an average game at best, let me explain why.

This game is LOADED with content. Because of this, the developers had to scale back certain game elements in order to cram everything in. For example, in previous MK games, the fighters had up to 3 fighting styles. Now, the characters have a maximum of 2, with some characters only having one. The backgrounds and character graphics are less detailed than in previous MK games. Also, I think the custom fatality feature was put into place out of necessity, not to be revolutionary. For those who don't know, all the characters perform similar fatalities now, you just get to choose from a lengthy list of them (head rips, beheadings, arm rips, etc.). So, gone are each characters fatality that made them unique. I think this was done to save disc space, again to fit everything needed on the game disc the developers needed to cut some corners. Custom fatalities does this because now all the characters share the same fatality animations, instead of having animations that are unique to them. If you created 2 or 3 unique fatality animations for this huge number of fighters, it would fill up the game disc pretty quick. So, to me this is a step backward, not forward.

The Konquest mode, which has been really fun to play in the past, is no longer open ended like it was before. Konquest mode is now a strictly linear and scaled back version of the Shaolin Monks action game. You play as Taven and piece together his character's story which is heavily involved in the new MK tournament. It's fun at times, but not as much fun to play as previous Konquest modes have been. Konquest seems to be simply for unlocking content and coin collecting and offers little else and at times feels more like necessary busy work and not an exciting fun part of the game.

One final complaint is the fact that the actual tournament (arcade mode) is very short. Wouldn't you think that a tournament featuring every character in MK's history would have a bigger feel to it? Wouldn't it be massive in scale and scope? The big fight, must win atmosphere fans crave is completely void here. It just doesn't feel like a big deal.

Now, with all that out of the way, I have some good things to say about the game. First, we can finally play as all the boss characters. When I first heard this, I thought the boss characters would be watered down...they're not! They are just as powerful as you would hope. They're moves are limited, but they are really powerful and I can easily win the tournament with them.

Gone are all the different multi-colored coins. Now, you just collect gold coins, making it very easy to make purchases in the krypt. The krypt now allows you to see exactly what you're unlocking before you unlock it. I haven't decided if I like this or not. Sure, the frustration of making purchases from previous games is gone, but so is the surprise, which I really enjoyed.

The biggest upgrade in the series is the create a fighter feature. This is really cool and the fact that you can take your character online just makes it all the sweeter!

PS2 players have complained that the fighters can be slow and pulling off moves can be sluggish. I must say, that this is not a problem with the Xbox version, but that's simply because the Xbox runs a little faster than the PS2 thanks to the hardware.

Overall, MK Armageddon is fun, but it's not the classic that you'll keep returning to for years to come. I hope that the first MK game for the next gen systems achieves all the loafty goals that this game strived for, but didn't quite reach. It's a good game, it's just not a 5 star classic.

MORTAL KOMBAT...but could have been better.

I like the Mortal Kombat games and characters. There's a rich history to the series and through all the incarnations there's also been a familiar level of game play and fun.

The newest MK title ARMAGEDDON has all the positives that you would expect from an MK title plus the added bonus of every character in MK history available.

However, in today's gaming market it still feels kind of bare bones.

The only online option is fighting. No team kombat, chess kombat, tournaments...just fighting. That gets old real quick. Many gamers will point out that there is a racing game called MOTOR KOMBAT (which is fun if you're under 10) but from my adult perspective it's just taking up disk space that could have been better used someplace else.

Other sorry points of the new title would be: a short arcade mode (with the worst ending sequences ever...what is the motivation to win with multiple characters?), the loss of individual fatality moves, and a Krypt that offers little game play additions (so why worry about spending money in it?).

I'm giving the game 3 stars because I am a fan and for $39 it will give me a few weeks of gaming fun. But in today's day-and-age of online gaming developers need to look at providing options that will extend a game's life through replay value. Once you've done a few fights in this game you'll probably be ready to play something else.

DONT BUY THIS GAME!!!

THIS GAME IS A PIECE OF TRASH! FIRST OF ALL I'M REALLY DISSAPOINTED WITH THE FACT THAT THIS GAME DOESN'T PLAY IN 720p ON CERTAIN MODELS OF HDTVs(I'M ONE OF THE UNLUCKY FEW WITH ONE OF THESE TVs). THIS SUCKS BECAUSE THE MAIN REASON I BOUGHT THIS GAME IS FOR ITS 720p CAPABILITIES. THAT WOULD'VE BEEN A GREAT FEATURE SINCE XBOX 360 GAMES PLAY IN 720p AND 1080i, AND THIS WAS $39.99 SO THAT WAS THE DEAL MAKER FOR ME. ASIDE FROM THE FACT THAT MIDWAY IS AWARE OF THIS PROBLEM AND THEY ACKNOWLEDGE THAT IT'S THEIR GAME CAUSING THE PROBLEM, NOT THE TVs, THEY STILL WON'T COMPENSATE ME IN ANY KIND OF WAY. AND, SINCE I CAN'T RETURN THE GAME TO BESTBUY(BECAUSE THEY THINK I BEAT THE GAME, LOST INTEREST, OR I WANT TO PULL OFF SOME SCAM), I'M STUCK WITH A GAME THAT I DON'T WANT. THE MORONS AT MIDWAY TOLD ME THAT I CAN "STILL ENJOY PLAYING THE GAME IN 480 AND 1080i". WELL FIRST OF ALL, THERE IS NO 1080i FOR THIS GAME(I TRIED THAT ALREADY BY GOING TO THE XBOX DASHBOARD AND SELECTING "YES" WHEN ASKED IF MY TV SUPPORTS 1080i),IT MAKES NO DIFFERENCE IN PICTURE QUALITY, AND SECOND, I BOUGHT THIS GAME TO TAKE FULL ADVANTAGE OF MY HDTV, XBOX, XBOX HD WIRES, AND 720P CAPABILITES OF MKA, SO I DON'T WANT TO SETTLE ON 480p. THAT SOUNDS LIKE FALSE ADVERTISING TO ME BECAUSE IT CLEARLY STATES THAT THE GAME PLAYS IN 720p ON THE BACK OF THE CASE.
NOW LET'S TALK ABOUT THE GAME ITSELF. NOT MUCH TO SAY HERE- KIND OF FUN AT FIRST, BUT THEN IT GETS OLD FAST. KREATE-A-FATALITIES ARE THE WORST! THE BIGGEST LET-DOWN TO ANY MK FAN. THE KREATE A FIGHTER SUCKS, TOO. THE MOTOR KOMBAT IS KIND OF FUN, BUT YOU CAN'T PLAY ONLINE. BUT YOU KNOW, I CAN OVERLOOK THESE THINGS AND JUST PLAY THE GAME FOR ITS BRUTAL BUT FUN CONTENT AND ITS GREAT GRAPHICS BUT I CAN'T. THIS WILL BE THE LAST TIME I EVER BUY A MIDWAY GAME. THEY SHOULD'VE JUST SENT ME A $40 CHECK, NEW GAME , OR SOMETHING BUT NOW BECAUSE OF THIS B.S. THEY JUST PULLED, I'LL NEVER BUY ANOTHER MIDWAY GAME AND NEITHER WILL ALOT OF THE PEOPLE I KNOW.

Mortal Kombat Armageddon is supposed to be the finial installment of the Mortal Kombat series for the Xbox and Playstation 2 consoles. It is supposed to end the franchise with a mighty bang, but ends up being nothing more than a weak whimper.

Since this is supposed to be the swan song for this iteration of the series, they have thrown in nearly every character that has ever been in a Mortal Kombat game which gives you more than sixty characters to play with. On top of that, you can even create custom characters.

The graphics and character models are good for the aging Xbox platform. The stage design is acceptable, but they are not nearly as engaging as those presented the previous games. They are decent, they work, but they are nothing to get excited. Everything seems to be a bit overly dark and gloomy to me, and I can't help but wonder if this has been done to hide limitations in the game engine. The sound is adequate, nothing special, or memorable.

The kombat game play works well though. It hasn't changed much from the previous titles. The biggest difference I noted is that you now have two fighting styles instead of three. I assumed this was done to accommodate the huge roster of playable characters. This game also marks the return of aerial attacks which have not be been present in the series for at least the last two games.

Mortal Kombat: Armageddon has multiple play modes. There is the traditional arcade mode, versus mode, online mode, Konquest adventure mode, and Motor Kombat. In the traditional arcade mode you fight a series of progressively harder opponents until you reach the boss character. The versus mode lets you play against your friends on a stage of your choosing. The online mode lets you compete against other players worldwide. The Motor Kombat is basically a dumbed down version Mario Kart with a dash of Mortal Kombat violence thrown in; it's entertaining, but it's not the real meat of the game.

By far, what I found to be the biggest disappointment of the game is what they did to the Konquest mode. In the previous title, Mortal Kombat Deception, Konquest mode was a full blown adventure game. You could of almost called it `The Kombat RPG'. It was a vast and fully fleshed out game, though it lacked any real ending, it was very entertaining and enjoyable. I spent a lot of time playing it.

I beat the Konquest mode in Mortal Kombat Armageddon in two sittings. And the only reason it was two sittings instead of one was because I had to get up to use the bathroom once.

The Konquest mode in this title was basically watered down version of Mortal Kombat Shaolin Monks, without the in depth character progression, freedom to explore, or story scope. It amounts to little more than a uninteresting imitation of one great games, and an unworthy successor to another.

Mortal Kombat Armageddon is a decent game. It is disappointing when compared to other recent Mortal Kombat games like Mortal Kombat Deception and Mortal Kombat Shaolin Monks. It you are a fan of the Mortal Kombat universe, it will undoubtedly tickle to get to play will of the characters presented. If you are not a Mortal Kombat fan, I would at least suggest you rent the game and try it out. It does have it's enjoyable moments.

Knot every kombat game is going to be a killer knock out, but at least here you have a klue as to what is koming and what to expect.

some games are very hard and u need to spend too much time.
Like the shaolin monks is very confusing.

But this one is straight forward but much easier and repeats all the time.

The moves are ok nothing that new.

I paid 40 bucks for it. Not worth it, the price dropped very soon coz it does with all the games.

Iits not that good

I didn't buy this from here but my brother has it, and I've seen him play it, the CONQUEST's graphics are well done, but the arcade mode sucks!!! because its like buying a used game because all of the old characters are unlocked excepted the 2 characters from the conquest, you can't do the character's original fatality, you have to make up your own wich is a little hard, they should have had all the backgrounds from the old games to the new one, they should have also had a code to unlock some traps instead of killing the opponent to the same traps, and they should also let us unlock the old arcade games (Mortal kombat 1 through 4) instead of having the old games on the kollector's edition.

:0)

i like it,and i'm glad i got it because they gave it a low rating and i think it should get higher. I enjoy the konquest a little better this time, the fact that they brought out all the players scored extra points with me and the mini games was good for me enjoyable a keeper
