Amazing gameplay for the patient gamer

Ninja Gaiden has gorgeous graphics, and lets your ninja character move from rural villages to the halls of a techno air ship.

You play Ryu, a ninja whose father has entrusted him with a magic sword. Trouble soon erupts and you are fighting your way through a variety of landscapes, encountering tougher and tougher bosses, and building up your skills. You pick up new weapons, learn more moves, and root out the masterminds behind the disturbances.

The game is very much like Splinter Cell with ninjas. The graphics are really quite impressive, with the flowing scarf and varied textures. The shadows and reflections are right on. The body shapes and movements are quite impressive to look at.

Stealth is a part of your job, being a ninja, but there is a lot of fighting as well. You have a wide array of moves to use in taking down your enemy, includindg fun wall-jumps a la Prince of Persia. You pick up items along the way to move you along your quest. It's relatively one-directional so you don't end up lost in a giant map, wondering what to do next.

This game is NOT an easy game, so prepare yourself for a lot of work in learning how to use your skills well. Even the easiest bosses take some time to get through. This will be a good challenge for your gameplaying abilities. I see this as a VERY good thing - I dislike games that I just breeze through without any effort.

Recommended if you're up for a fighting adventure challenge, and don't mind a few heads being cut off along the way. Also recommended if you're patient and want to build up your gaming skills. This wouldn't be a good game to rent for just a weekend - it's a game that can keep you busy for weeks if not months!

gameplay? amazing. difficulty? err....

this will just be echoing what many others are saying, but i'll put in my 2 cents. i didn't know what to expect from ninja gaiden because usually i play FPS's. i wasn't very impressed with devil may cry 3 (probably the closest equivalent to this game). as it turns out, ninja gaiden is an outstanding game in almost every way. the graphics look terrific even though it's a bit "old" by now. people fawn over the graphics of games like gears of war.. give me a break, this game looks way better than that. the controls feel very tight (another thing people don't think about in games). the weapons and special moves are awesome, the game features a plot and stores similar to resident evil 4, which is great. most importantly IT'S JUST FUN. and that's more than i can say for most games.

the thing that brings this game down is the difficulty. i read an interview with the maker of ninja gaiden, and he says he likes games that are hard and it should feel like an accomplishment, yada yada.. that's great in theory and all, except i'm not playing games to brag to other people about what a great gamer i am. i'm playing them to have fun, and it's not fun to lose over and over again. i definitely agree most games are too easy now, and i'd much rather play a game like this than a game that's hard for bad reasons like poor game design or bugs. however, there's something to be said for balance. why not have an easy game mode for gamers like me who don't want to suffer? would that really be so bad? at least you can save your game, which helps..

the other flaw i found in the game is nowhere in the manual or game did it say which buttons to press to use the ninpo powers. these powers are vital precisely because the game is so difficult. i searched everywhere and could not find how to use them. thank God i finally found out which buttons to use on the internet. that's an annoying flaw. so that's about it. ninja gaiden is a great game, but you better have the patience to keep trying to win battles...

Ninja Gaiden, All you could have hoped for

If you played the original NES Ninja Gaiden then know that is this is one of the greatest games ever made. Fast forward to 2004 and you have a game that could only be rivaled by Halo 2 in terms of gameplay, story, and visuals. To make this short and sweet and I provided my ranking from 1-10 (1=worse, 10-excellent) on each category I rate this game.

Visuals 10
Story 10
Gameplay 10
Difficulty 10
Camera 09

The only thing that bothered me is that at some points during your combat the camera places itself in and odd position which makes hard for you to see your character and defend yourself against multiple enemies, but the controls do make up for it as you are able to click the right trigger to place the camera directly behind you effectively. Another thing about the game is the combos and the ability to dodge attacks. This is the first ninja game I have played in that the main characters moves likes a ninja should. Rolling out of attacks, running on walls, wall jumping, it's one of those things you have to see to believe. I am about 2/3rd through the game and I can tell you that it is difficult, but not enough to toss your controller out of the window. The cut scenes progress the story very well and also give you a break on some difficult stages. The one feature that I have not been able to utilize is the Xbox Live feature which rates your gameplay and places you in a worldwide Tournament. When you play through each section it rates you on your performance (i.e attacking enemies with combo's, avoiding physical damage, etc... To obtain a Master Ninja rating you would have to be unstoppable but with practice I will be reaching that rank and joining the online Tournament . Overall my expectations were exceeded with this game. Everything from the music to the environments made this game a pleasure to play. This game is worth getting, at least it will hold us over until Halo2. See you guys on Xbox Live (Gamertag: Kaizenva)

While Ninja Gaiden has been critiqued as 'too hard', this only adds to the game's attractiveness. Whenever I finished a really good game, I wish it was a little easier in order to prolong the game and my enjoyment. Ninjagaiden magnifacently quells any qualms of it being too short a game. It's graphic are superb, its role playing excellent, and its diffucilty high. If you want to buy but one game this year, go out and due yourself a favor. Buy Ninjagaiden.

Very good game!!!

Normally, this type of game is one I would shy away from. I myself having played the Ninja Gaiden games for the NES ages ago, decided I would give it a go. I have been very pleased with the game thus far. Yes, the game is VERY hard. It took me a while just to beat the first boss. But I myself get tired of games that aren't challenging and too easy. I welcome the challenge. The graphics are awesome, as you all very well can tell. But there is one thing not mentioned a lot in these reviews - sound. Voice acting isn't bad at all. Sound effects are perfect and the soundtrack is very good. I think this game competes with Halo, if you ask me.

What seems like a long time ago, the first console Ninja Gaiden came out for the NES. The game required you do a lot of finger memorization, with very little randomness involved. The newest incarnation has brought what feels like a similar linear game play, but with an AI that adapts according to your style game play. The AI encouraged me to play in the moment. No longer could I rely on the fact that the enemies would do the same thing over and over again.

A decent amount of special moves are available to Ryu, but none are the best in every situation. Because of the always adapting AI, I found out very quickly that special moves are not the answer for every enemy that you face. Eventually when I had an opening to use my special moves, I was able to sense (yes I said sense because the game play is so fast paced that you don't have time to See an opening) opening.

Moving and looking around took a little bit to get used to because the perspective camera is a bit different then any other game I've played. The camera attempts to automatically adjust to the correct viewing position, which it does a majority of the time. For those few times when it doesn't a quick right trigger and its back to where it should be. I have a feeling that this sort of auto-finding-perspective will gain more acceptance as it matures. In its current form it provides a suitable and workable viewing mechanism that doesn't detract from the game.

You'll find yourself wanting to learn how to properly use the camera so that you can enjoy the unbelievable graphics. There is nothing to be said about this other then it is flawless. Game play graphics have the shadows, the character detail, the building detail, the landscape detail, etc. The cinema-graphics are astounding. They are by far the best cinema-graphics that can be found on a console game today.

Finally I want to address the difficulty level. Ninja Gaiden offers a path that is both hard and rewarding. Hard because you will die, and often; rewarding because as you progress you become a better gamer. There is no easy path in the game. You have to get good to beat it, and that's all there is to it. I just want to remind people that there are two difficulty settings: EASY & HARD, which should read HARDER THEN HECK & WHY GOD...WHY?

One of the greatest games I've ever played.

Ninja Gaiden for Xbox is one of the best video games ever made. This game sits alongside Halo and Knights of the Old Republic on the Xbox mantle of instant classics. The action genre is alive. Fight through the first 3 off putting chapters of this game and you will be greatly rewarded for your efforts. This game features the best gameplay, the sickest weapons, the coolest bosses and characters, the best animation and graphics, you have ever seen in any game on any system. This game is a must own. Maybe you're like me and you rarely ever feel compelled to play a game again after you finish it, well you will play this game again, because the gameplay in Ninja Gaiden even overshadows the drop dead gorgeous graphics of this game. Do yourself a favor and buy this game now. Ninja Gaiden is the best thing to happen to the game industry in a long time. The best $ I've spent on a video game. I'm extremely happy with this game. I want to thank Tecmo for making this game so much.

Awsome

First of all, I want to point out that this game is hard. But thats nothin to wine and complain about. It makes the game more challenging. Besides if you get boggled down by enimes, ITS CALLED THE LEFT TRIGGER! it blocks any attack. Anyway, the graphics are great, the gameplay is great. Think of Prince of Persia mixed with soul caliber. Somewhat like that but on crack. This game is one of the best games on any system. The weapons are all different, with different moves for each one. They feel completly different from each other. Theres nunchucks swords, war hammer. And for the throwing weapons, theres throwing stars and a bow which you can go in to first person and shoot (for all you FPS fans). Bottom line, you'd have to be crazy not to at least rent this game.!EMAG SIHT YUB. (subliminal messaging)

BEST GAME for current generation consoles

Wow this game is awesome! The graphic is dope especially the enemies, more detail and better graphic than halo and metriod prime. The music is Japanese medieval style, a bit dark but goes with the game well. The sound is awesome, sweet weapon effects and excellent voice acting. This game plays like zelda, gauntlet and baldur's gate: many levels, different enemies & bosses, etc... In 3rd person 3D form. Then there are rpg elements, you can get more weapons, upgrade them, buy items, acquire magic, learn abilities, etc... The gameplay is not hack and slash style, more like fighting game with the rpg elements as mentioned. The fighting system is deep and the enemies are all smart and you have to think and fight like a ninja. Tecmo did a wonderfully job translating this game from 2D to 3D and made it truly the best game for all current generation consoles.

The stages are so cool, very detailed you'll feel you are in medieval Japan, excellent adventure factor too. The enemies are cool, many different enemies and bosses. I like the medieval and mystical Japanese theme, monsters and the modern mechanical enemies too, solid variety and mix. The fighting looks awesome and real!

The camera system is good and not horrible like others say... First, the attacks are 'auto-targeting', you dont have to face the enemies to attack, when you push attack it will attack closest avaible enemy. When the fighting gets chaotic, for some reason you'll 'feel' where the enemies are even when they're off screen, you feel like(a ninja) you are in the game with 2 extra TV beside you and another one behind you, Tecmo did an amazing job!

The game has a genuine arcade feel to it. Its hard in a good way and takes many continues to pass. After you pass the game you'll still want to play it again, its that good. As bonus you get the old skool ninja gaiden games too, 1, 2 & 3!

Overall this masterpiece is a MUST HAVE. Ninja Gaiden makes Xbox the best console, finally!

What can I say

Ninja Gaiden suprized the heck out of me
Pros:
Beautiful Graphics
Excellent backrounds
Very addictive gameplay
Great music
Excellent sound effects
Nice story so far
Using Ki attacks really help out
Runnin on walls, nice!
Combos that dis out crazy damage
Temco has definitly outdone theirselves

Cons:
HARD!! Every boss I fought, so far, I lost to at least once before I won, and I lose to normal gaurds as well
Camera angles are definty a problem
I wished they somehow had 2 players(That would of been nice)

This game, I bairly read up on it, cause I thouhgt it was gonna be a rip-off of Tenchu, but this game proved me dead wrong. This game is diffrent and better than Tenchu.

This game reminded me of Devil May Cry all over again, except, I think this game is a little better. Unlike usuall ninja games, this ain't stealth, it's straight up Kick ... action game.

Anyone familiar with the Dead or Alive Series will notice 2 characters from that series on this game, Ryu Hyabusha(Main character), and Ayane, but they're younger(Cuz Ayane's 14).

If you love Devil May Cry, and have a Xbox, by all means in the book, get this game! If you have a Xbox, then pick this game up, cuz right along side Halo, Splinter Cell Pandora Tommorow(Which is definitly a excellenr sequal), and Grand Theft Auto Double Pack, this is one of the best games on Xbox, better yet, it's one of the greatest games out there!

peace
