Silent Hill 4-Gains and Loses

Having a deep seated desire for the games which can scare the buggers out of a person, The Silent Hill series of games is just the ticket.

The audio and graphics have been much improved throughout the series (recently completed Silent Hill 3). This is truely a game that will have some hairs standing up on the back of your neck. Plus some extra audio effects which the dolby audio makes full use of. Gameplay however? Could stand improvement. The control method was a little "odd" to say the least. The game offers decent control over your person, however some functions did need to be setup in the custom section. The main drawback to this game? Haveing to deal with the same "bad guy" (as I'm trying not to spoil any of the fun) repeatedly as some will not remain "down" for very long. All in all however I feel the game has made decent improvements in graphics and audio. If you are really into "things that go bump in the night" this one's a classic for the collection.

Pros:
Audio quality is excellent: Dolby Surround makes the game come to life
Graphics: Again, quality and attention to detail is outstanding. One could actually count the 5 o'clock shadow stubble on the main players face.
Storyline: Good/fair. In many ways a typical "horror story"..and in other ways very unique.

Cons:
Controller system: A bit on the chunky side. At times hard to stop player exactly where he belongs to interact with items/people
Enemys: Most very scary, graphics again well done..however one 'type' will not stay down after being defeated...annoying, and it gets old fast.

Have a great day!

wOO! when i first got an x box, i bought two games... this and 'the sims urbz',and being a hater of action games, i thought that this game will remain lying on my shelf for the rest of eternity, but i was wrong. once i started this game, i kept playing it, with brief breaks for eating, sleeping, and going to school. love it.

Another solid silent sequel.

Silent Hill The Room plays like other Silent Hill games, with the exception of the players apt. area which is first person. If your a fan of this series you'll probably like this game as it is the same format of previous silent hill games. My only complaint is I wish you could choose between 1st person or regular perspective. For me personaly I feel more like I'M in the game when its all First person like in the room. But I know diehard fans who are used to the format wouldnt like it.I just wish it was ALL first person perspective or at least you could switch between first and third on the fly. But still its another solid silent hill game, with the added feeling of being trapped in,like the title says ,THE ROOM.

Good but no the best

This game is good but is far from being the best SH game to be made, I played SH1 when I had a PSX, and the controls and graphics weren't the best but it was PSX, I have played through SH2:RD over 7x's and played through SH3 (borrowed a friends PS2, since it never came out for XBOX) and am now playing SH4:The Room. This game is a good game for people who have played the other games (or atleast one of them) but it would be really hard (the controls and all) for somebody who has never played even a minute of a diff. SH game.
My opion is that this is a really good buy for people who have played other SH games, not very good if you have never played a SH game.

Worst Game Ever?

In my opinion, save your money. This is the worst game I have ever played in my life! What a joke.

DISAPPOINTING

SILENT HILL and SILENT HILL 2 seemed to be the beginning of a FANTASTIC theme for a long line of games. SILENT HILL 3 came along and it appeared too rushed and weak. No scary atmosphere, no interesting characters, just a feeble attempt at making a quick buck on the SILENT HILL wagon. The WORST of the series...until SILENT HILL 4.

This game is really quite ridiculous. You would have thought that, with the success of the first two games, they would have put just a LITTLE more effort into newly released entries. The gameplay is mediocre, the theme is really uninspired, the atmosphere is COMPLETELY lost, heck, the whole idea about SILENT HILL is the town itself. Just like the 3rd entry, you aren't even IN SILENT HILL for the most part!!! Part way through the game, the designers seemed to just give up and force you to repeat areas that you already spent so much time getting through. That, in itself, is aggrivating.

The recent SILENT HILL entries do not come anywhere near the first and second games and thats a shame. A good thing has come to a sorrowful end.

R.I.P. SILENT HILL

Havent played yet but if it follows like the others in.....

the series.....well then I will be screaming for my mommy on a second to second basis. I am so looking forward to it, and it's on XBOX! I have a PS2 but the graphics and sound will probably be better. The sounds I think are the most terrifying so if you have surround sound turn off the lights and turn it up! The monsters appear to be a little creepier than the last (although pyrimad (sp) head was super creepy) And the nurses who can forget the nurses. Since all the Silent Hill games were good I don't see why this one wouldn't be. So I will buy it and hopefully have a better review for you.

i like this game like all the previous ones i've played .. i thought i was gonna visit Silent hill again in this game.. i was wrong. I guess they're trying to come up with new stories for players to live..it's all good, i like all the Silent hill series they come up with.. but i gotta say ,that Silent hill 1 was the one game that made me feel real horror, cause it was my first silent hill experience I could ever live, and it made me voracious for more silent hill series.
i wish if they can make the endings a little longer, like when you win the final battle, you get to watch couple scenes of your ending and that's it..i'd like to watch more, it'd be more fun. and if we could have lil romance between the characters lol.

unique and engaging but not quite achieved

The room entales events before silent hill 2 i believe. The 1st person aspect has great, but needs more solid ground. The story behaves like it should and ties up loose ends about the killings fetured in the second silent hill. I'm not to fond of this one having ghosts that can't be killed or dispelled, which drops the replay value on this one. Controls handle well and the swing gauge is a great feature. this one seems short also.
if they make another, why not incorporate the camera from resident evil 4 and keep the swing meter that may increase a stronger sense of emergency, while allowing precise aiming control of your guns. no one ever said james succeeded or failed. I think he needs to finish what he started.
