Excellent!

I am very impressed. I thought good horror games were starting to die off, but somebody makes The Suffering. This is possibly one of the best horror games that are out today. The game is set in a prison where you are about to be executed when monsters attack the prison. You travel the prison, killing monsters that represent executions and watching the deaths of guards and inmates(very gruesome!). I haven't finished playing the game but I intend to. Hopefully, this will come out for PC.

A must buy for any horror fan

This game is much more action-oriented than your average survival horror game and for that it's worth buying if you're into horror and shooting games because it mixes both styles. The controls are great and the graphics are really good, although not as good as Silent Hill or Resident Evil. Value for money is great because you have 3 different endings and I am going through it 2nd time round, this time in hard mode.

The only thing I thought was weak were the puzzles that could have substantiated the game. Nevertheless it has a great story, acting, controls and gameplay..

First Game To Actually Scare Me

Add this to the list of must-own XBox titles.... Halo, Splinter Cell, Unreal Championship, TopSpin.

This game will give you the creeps. It truly is scary. Especially when you play it late at night with 5.1 digital sound.

Great story, graphics, sound and characters.

An A+ title all the way...

Very Mediocre

I bought a used copy of this game after it was touted by Game Informer as having one of the top ten scariest game moments. How can you go wrong with a horror game set in a prison?

Loveless execution, that's how. This game feels like a simple mod of a generic third-person shooter with some prison uniform skins slapped into place. The playability is uninteresting and loose -- the characters sort of slide across the ground while scissoring their legs instead of looking like they're actually making contact with the ground while running, and so on.

Torque's lack of reaction to anything around him consistently bothered me. An iron door would slam right behind him, or a guard would be torn in half immediately before him, and he would have NO REACTION AT ALL (in contrast, think about Resident Evil 4 -- Leon would crouch slightly in reaction to nearby explosions). This could probably be passed of as trying to cast Torque as stony and cold, but in reality I'm sure it was that the dev shop management didn't budget for those little extras that really breathe life into the game.

The attempted 'gritty' language is just egregious. Combined with the stupid AI, it leads to some real annoyances -- for example, I was following an NPC, and I stopped to look at something and apparently wasn't following quickly enough for his satisfaction. He starts hollering the same "come on, m*** f***r!" audio clip over and over at ten-second intervals, drawing my wife into the living room so she can scold me for the game's pointless, naughty language.

The fact that the game is older really isn't an excuse for its high degree of crappitude -- there are some truly hair-raising, beautifully crafted horror games that are 4+ years old -- Eternal Darkness and the 'Haunted Asylum/Orphanage' level in Thief: Deadly Shadows come to mind.

Life's just too short to play mediocre games. Stick with solid action games like RE4 or Riddick, or lovingly crafted horror titles like the ones mentioned above. Strongly suggest you skip this game.

This game is the most messed up game in the world. My child got it and he is scarred to sleep now. I am a police officer and i work the night shift and he is scarrd for me to go to the jail. Supposedly the game takes place in jail. He cries every time i leave. This kid is 18 and he is on the varsity football team at school and now this game has turned him into a whiny boy. If i was you i would NOT allow my child to get this game because it is obviously terrifyin. I am goin to sue the game manufacture for making this here horrible game. You've Been WARNED!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Let's Torque about The Suffering

I'm a huge fan of horror survival video games because they allow you get inside the situation and explore the mystery for yourself. Silent Hill would have to be my all-time favourite, followed closely by Project Zero/Fatal Frame. After playing The Suffering, I think I've found a new favourite. I can see influences from other horror games in there such as Alice and Resident Evil, even elements of Silent Hill 2. However the concept, character and monster designs are unique and original. The coolest looking (also one of the most annoying) creatures in the game would have to be the slayers. This game is atmospheric, ultra-violent and spooky in a fun old fashioned way. It will keep you enthralled to the very end. It's not really as scary as everyone's making it out to be though. The bonus video feature on the Eastern State Penitentiary is even creepier than the game. It's simply an awesome bloody slash 'em, blow 'em up game which also circulates around sequences of an elusive murder story.
I hope the team who created this game make a new horror game in the same vain.
Oh, and for those of you who screaming in panty-soiling terror over this game. Remember it is just a game which has been designed for entertainment purposes - and obviously it isn't suitable for everyone but you have a choice not to play it as you would avoid most horror films. Sheesh!

Good Game, but Trouble in One Part

I have made through most of the game and what I've seen is that is it's a great action packed ride. The sound is excellent, the graphics are pretty good, and the controls are easy to get used to. However, there are parts in the game where you might get confused on where to go or what to do and it becomes frustrating. I've made to the last level and I'm at the part where you come to a truck and then it catches fire and Infernas start attacking you. There's a gap in the road up ahead. You can walk on to a small hill to collect some ammo and other equipment. I've tried looking around for something to push or use but there isn't anything. A friend told me that a bus is supposed to come and crash so I can get across. He told me to walk up to the gap in the road after the truck is on fire. I keep doing that but the bus doesn't come and the Infernas keep coming and I keep getting killed. If someone could tell me how to beat this part I would appreciate it. Now as for the game itself, it is a pretty cool game that you could playing on a rainy day or late at night with the lights off. It's just frustrating that I'm so close to the end but I'm stuck at this one part. So anyone who has beaten the game, please let me know how to beat it, because if you do and if you need trouble in another game, I'll help you out in return. This game is not really for kids because of all the violence and language, but if you can get beyond that, it's all good.

An interesting and disturbing game

Decent graphics, decent sound, decent game. Very twisted and much better than silent hill games. I would still wait for it to come down a little in price as it doesn't have much replay value.

OMG! This game ROCKS!

If you like profanity or only like fighting two kinds of monsters then you'll love this game. Every other word is F-this or FN that. Boring Boring Boring. Save your money for Halo or Halo 2. Halo is worth every penny.
