Tork was a bit lame

Okay, I guess it's slightly sad that I "actually" played this game. It was one of those random rents at Blockbuster a while back and I SO should have picked out something else. This game pretty much sucked! The box looked promising; a nice adventure game that wouldn't be "great" in any way, but it looked as though it could have been fun. Well, it wasn't. To be honest, I think I only got through the first 5 of 13 levels.

In this game, you play as Tork, a little caveman who just saw his dad get kidnapped. Yea, sucks for him. Not only that, but his village also got destroyed by some evil dude whose name I don't remember. If you get through the entire game, you will play levels in 3 different time periods including Prehistoric, Middle Ages, and Modern Day. When you play in a different time, you will receive new and interesting powers specific to that period. Again, even this doesn't save this game from its sucky-ness. Probably the only good thing that I can find in this game is that there are many different types of enemies making for a slightly less repetitive game. Well, it "tries" to be less repetitive. The gameplay, however, doesn't allow for this. While playing the game, you will find yourself button mashing a lot and it really makes the game feel dull. You're either bash enemies with your bolo or toss the thing at enemies' heads. That's pretty much it. Yep...and trust me, it gets VERY boring!!!

I hear the game gets slightly better as you increase in levels, but I personally don't know because I had to stop the madness early. Overall, this game is very dull. It's not a good adventure game in any sense. When I play that type of game, I want to feel involved and while playing this I just felt bored. If you haven't already...don't play this game...trust me!

Great game...better than TAK, almost as good as Crash B. ...

*TORK - XBOX*
I remember seeing ads and short videos for Tork on the official XBOX website a year or so ago. I was bummed when I found out it was being put on a shelf with the possibility of never being released. Thankfully, I was thrilled when I found out it was going to be released and even more so now after playing it. The levels are colorful with tons of eye-candy. The creatures are interesting, but usually simple drones to have a short duel against. The surroundings are fresh and interesting with a "never a dull moment" scrolling motion. The levels are sometimes easy and sometimes very challenging. I get to play the more challenging levels and my kids play the others. My kids love it when I play because the game is so good looking, they forget I'm playing and get captivated by the brilliant colors and non-stop action. They love watching it...seriously...they beg me to play! Okay, you got me, so I like the game too! But they really do like to watch me play the more challenging levels...really, really.
There's no slow-down and everything seems to be very well done. My only complaint is it can get awfully hard at times (and I'm a serious veteran video gamer, all the way back to the original Atari pong). Fortunately, there are plenty of checkpoints and if you lose all your lives you can start over at you last checkpoint with 5 more lives. There are very slight camera issues when you try to back-track. During a back-track effort Tork is so low on the screen it's sometimes hard to see a cliff or enemy and your next step could be very damaging or fatal. You just have to be careful and go slow. You'll get used to it but it can get annoying if you back-track too much.
Tork is a little more fun than TAK because it's more aggressive and there seems to be tons of non-stop action. Also, the levels take you to the next step or objective of the game. So you're not left wondering what to do next. It seemed in TAK we constantly was searching for the next level or objective and at times it became frustrating. In fact, so frustrating my kids lost interest in it relatively quick.
Tork's not quite as free-roaming as TAK, but more so than CRASH BANDICOOT. In fact, it reminds me of CRASH in many ways. There's plenty of colorful and creative levels, challenging bosses and you get to break lots of stuff for points and collect things for power-ups.
I would say it's not quite as good as the more recent Crash Bandicoot:Wrath of Cortex(it's real close though) but it looks and feels better than the first couple of Crash Bandicoots. If Tork does well it just might start a life of its own like CRASH did. I'm keeping my fingers crossed. This is cute and fun and worth the legacy.
IN FINAL: Fantastic game for all ages, especially for the kids(and Dads who like to join in with the kids now and then). Colorful with lots of eye-candy and very creative levels. Well done.
A MUST FOR ANY PLATFORMER FAN.

If you like platformers like crash bandiccot, you'll love playing Tork. Gameplay is about transforming into three powerfull creatures (I like the Yeti! he has great shockwave attacks, a huge special power, and a nice fur:)
The graphics are amazing and I like the fact that the environments are full of life (try the "grevious gulch" or "Ice" levels first!)
The gameplay is simple and fun, controls are tight, camera smooth (with a limited control that can be frustrating sometimes at the beginning but happens to be good for this kind of game)
I highly recommend Tork, I give 5 stars, because it's simply one of the best platformers ever

Great Graphics for This Game Style

Adventure games are often by their nature silly, but fun. Tork is no exception! You get a young caveman kid in a land of pterodactyls, questing and gathering.

In a computer gaming world full of prostitutes and drive by shootings, it's nice sometimes to find a game that is fun for kids, reasonable for adults, has lovely graphics and generally satisfying gameplay.

You play a pre-teen kid who wears a strange red headdress complete with horns. Your dad is abducted, and your village destroyed. With the help of a local medicine man, you have to learn to develop your powers to save your dad, save the world, and gain the respect of all around you. This is the sort of quest that most of us can relate to :)

The worlds you go through are nicely done. There are different themes - desert cave world, icy cave world, cave world full of plants, and so on. Each area has a specific task you're after. Again, this makes for great gaming for kids - they know what to do and get satisfaction when they do it. For adults, it means you can whip through a number of levels before it's bedtime - no long fruitless hours of trying to figure out what happens next.

The graphics are rather impressive. If you stop and pause, it actually looks like a painting in many cases - but when you start moving again it is of course a fully realized 3D world you are in. This is about as good as I've seen on the regular XBox console. I have some problems with the camera, and clipping, but that seems to happen in every game.

The sounds are a little less stellar - a combination of jungle beat drums and twanging, plus an incessant howling of the wind. The voice actors are truly silly. Still, this is meant to be a kid's game, not a serious drama. I do have a complaint that sometimes the subtitles are out of sync with what is being said, which is odd.

Still, I didn't find anything really bothersome about the game. The graphics make it fun, the easy pick-up-and-play-immediately game style was great. I didn't need to read a manual or study anything. It's all traditional - jump, bash, long distance attack, magic. The added bonus of turning into Yeti and other cool creatures is quite nice.

Well recommended if you enjoy simple questing / gathering games! Note that this game WILL play on an XBox 360.

Lots of fun
