I loved Unreal. I bought it for the PC about the same time I played Half-Life. Both game's graphics and storyline were unbeatable at the time, only to be beaten by Halo. Halo is now the standard.

So now I have an Xbox. I have played both Halo and Halo2. I have beat the game muliple times and we play huge deathmatches as well. Face it. Halo is the standard and this is now what you have to measure up to.

Enter Unreal II. I find it sluggish and buggy. It takes too long to load and there is a lot of extra cut scene mumbo jumbo that just wastes time. The character build up is pointless, and the voiceover of John, our hereo, sounds more like a pharmacist that a space warrior.

The graphics are pretty good, but they all are these days. i mean, why do you play? To kill, right? Plus, I have found that the weapons (at first) all look alike. The grenade launcher looks like the shotgun looks like the flame thrower (etc.). But soon yo figure out the subtle differences.

But hey, I only paid a few bucks for it at gamespot. I am glad I did not pay full price. Half Life 2 was a great positive step up. Unreal seems like a step backwards.

I have been playing the Unreal series since I was about 6 years old and I remember buying this game with my dad and we had played it for hours. Now I have gotten it on the Xbox and I love it...PLUS IT HAS CO-OP! Co-Op for me is like the greatest thing other than the online multiplayer. If you played the first Unreal on the PC and liked it (you better have...lol) then you will love this one. Sure it isn't exactly from the first one's universe but there are many things that will remind you of it. One of the greatest battles was the Boss that was like a huge spider with tiny spiders everywhere. That one took forever (but in a good way)! Very fun and I hope to see you online!

A fun way to kill some time

I've read a lot of negative reviews on this site for this product, and feel I need to address a few things in fairness. This game was designed for (at the time) high-end PCs. This is very clearly a port, and as such the graphics did indeed take a hit. That being said, this doesn't affect gameplay whatsoever. The dialogue in the cut-scenes was originally meant to be optional depending on who you spoke to in the removed "free-roaming" mode, and what you said to them. It makes the conversations feel very awkward and long. The variety in environments is nice, and the difficulty felt appropriate to the situations. None of the missions were boring, and some showed a real spark of creativity. If you played "Mace Griffin" or any of the "007" titles, you have a good idea what to expect. I would recommend this title for around $10.00. It would get a better score if the fact that it is a port wasn't so glaringly obvious. For 360 owners, this title is NOT backwards compatable.

Great Game

Great game for the casual gamer. Good graphics, lots of great weapons and not too hard. Some games of this type can be very frustrating for people that are not hard core gamers. This game is great because it's a blast to kick but!

This May Be the Worst Game of Ever

I played this game for 3 minutes and it didnt take me long to realize how horrible this game was. The first enemy I incountered I shot down and it had two frames of animation. Doom 3D had better graphics and animation than this steaming pile. There is nothing about this game that merrites a $40 price tag. Stay away from this game! I use the word game only becuase it is only playable by a gaming system. This is just one of the horrible games that came into existince since the first Halo came out.

The First Doom is Better!

I dont know if any of you guys remember the first doom on Super Nintindo, but this game is similar to it and that is sad! Today games should be around the level of high-tech. For example halo 2, games need to stay in that level or continue to get better which they are, (PS3, Xbox 360, Wii, and future game systems to come).

This game shouldn't have been for xbox at all. Its a discrace to xbox and the unreal series. Save your money for something better unless you really like the old stuff.

What a crummy game.

Miserable game that uses atrocious checkpoint type saves since the designers apparently lack the imagination it takes to make the game challenging otherwise. This is even worse than most games that use checkpoints due to lack of creativity in that it can set you back very far in your progress. Beyond that, there are several other aspects that make this game pretty crummy:

The story and characters seem like they come straight from an episode of one of the many goofy tv sci-fi's that waste the airwaves today. There is the sensitive, but tough main character, the hot, almost super hero type chick in the sexy outfit, the obligatory alien and the weeny little mechanic that shows that he can still contribute despite being a spineless geek.

The enemies are much less impressive than most other games of this type and seem to run around wildy sometimes for no other purpose than to be a rapidly moving target. And I don't mean this in the tactical way either. They just run back and forth like idiots.

Although there are gobs of weapons, none of them are really impressive except for maybe the grenade launcher. And when playing games like this on a console, too many weapons can sometimes become a pain.

I have not tried the online game for this, and from what I understand, that is all most Unreal games are worth in the first place. What makes the single player even more disappointing is that a lot of the things available for the online game are not available such as vehicles and even the ability to run.

The upshot is, unless you want it for the online game or you really like doing the same thing over and over again via brainless checkpoint saves, avoid this game.

Stop comparing this to Halo.

Unreal 2 kicks ass, end of story. You're John Dalton, a TCA Marshal and you're dispatched through various planets to fight diverse enemies from monkey-like aliens to bloodthirsty Japanese mercenaries. You have a pretty good arsonal of weapons, my three favorite weapons are the assault rifle, grendade launcher (it fires six different grenades), and the missile launcher. The graphics are a little sucky but the gameplay is great.

XMP is killer, you get three different classes of soldiers, a lot of armed vehicles, and something that makes it a little more challenging, an energy station which you have to keep going or else your vehicles and turrets stop working. No game is the same as the previous one.

This game, along with Halo 2, will quench your thirst for an FPS.

FUN BUT NOT WELL MADE...

I LIKE IT, IT'S A FUN GAME, BUT CO-OP GLITCHES & FREEZES SO MANY TIMES IT'S ALMOST NOT PLAYABLE...
I BOUGHT THIS AFTER PLAYING UNREAL CHAMPIONSHIP, & BEING VERY PLEASED WITH THAT TITLE...
THAT BEING SAID, THIS WAS A BIG LETDOWN...
THE STORY IS HARD TO FOLLOW, FOR XBOX AT THE TIME IT CAME OUT, AND THE AMOUNT OF MONEY THE PUBLICITY GAVE IT, THIS SHOULD HAVE BEEN A BETTER TITLE, YET IT STILL LOOKS LIKE THE ORIGINAL UNREAL FOR THE PC GRAPHICSWISE...
IF YOU HAVE ALL THE OTHER TITLES OUT THERE, THEN I GUESS YOU MIGHT WANNA TRY IT, OTHERWISE, I'D STRAY AWAY FROM THIS ONE, ITLL ONLY CAUSE HEARTACHE..

I cant believe this game is real

unreal 2 the awakening has a lot of problems the graphics suck the weapons are very ordinary the mission objectives are at times nearly impossible to complete and the thing that puts it over the top is its poorly written plot line the cut scenes are boring and you have to sit through them avoid this game and get halo or halo 2
