Great for the money

3 Rating: 3, Useful: 0 / 1

I wanted a game I could walk away from. This game allows it really well, for little money. It seems to keep track well. And, you can use some way point scroll where you are, go back to a town. Time stands still in the towns. You can do a lot on your own, or join groups. I found you can join groups letting them know you will drop out at any given moment (family life, real life takes precedent) and there are groups that go for that. It means I can play, and get up and do what I need to, and get out and about, without worrying about it.

It also means I can limit my play without concern. I never tried a different online game. This one is cheap, and I have family members who either play the paid or free versions, so can group up with them when online. There is a way to do headsets and actually talk with them while playing, even though we all live thousands of miles apart. Kinda neat. Especially when we accidently discover each other playing in the social list.

It is a little repetitive in ways. But, I heard much the same about World of Warcraft, and it costs 3x as much to play.

Highly repetitive

The retail game allows you to access more gear and the Bling gnome who keeps you from having to carry so much stuff....but the game really is the same thing over and over....got bored after a week.

Dungeon Runners is an excellent game that keeps play simple and fun. It is very good for quick, no hassle play. There is lots of loot to collect and a decent variety of monsters. All three classes are fun and have unique skills so that there are many different ways to play any character. And if you dont like your skills, it is relatively cheep to respec your skills.

Just a standard dungeon crawl

There's not much new in this game. It is just the standard dungeon crawl with few real puzzles and a lot of hack and slash. I've been having trouble with their server cutting me off in mid-play. I haven't tried the PVP mode yet because my character is not high enough. You can play it for free but you don't get as much good stuff in loot or as many points from combat.

Very Pretty Rogue/Diablo/Dungeon Diver; Repetitive and Laggy

Dungeon Runners is a massively multiplayer online game where you can choose one of three character classes (ranger, mage or warrior) and explore dungeons fighting monsters and collecting gold and useful items. It's very pretty to look at, and it's a nice zen exercise. Your dungeon diving is driven by quests given by non-player characters; the voice acting of the NPCs is fun, and the quest descriptions can be entertaining. The community is generally friendly, although it seems to be younger on average than the World of Warcraft crowd and mostly male.

Dungeon Runners can be played for free by downloading the game. Premium members pay a monthly subscription fee of $5 a month, and those who purchase the software in the box (rather than downloading it) get 6 months of premium membership and the much-coveted "bling gnome", which follows its owner around converting found items to gold and saving the player the effort of carrying it back to a merchant to sell. Premium members also gain experience faster than those who play for free, get more bank space, and can use the higher level items.

Game play is repetitive, however. There is no room for player initiative or imagination. There is not much world to explore -- there's one little town; the rest is dungeons. Every quest involves killing a particular monster, killing a number of monsters, recovering something that monsters randomly drop when killed, or locating a place in the dungeon. What is particularly painful is that progress in a dungeon is not saved -- once you log off the game, the next time you play you will have the option to enter the dungeon at the level where you last were, but the entire dungeon will once more be unmapped and populated with monsters. As the quests send players to different levels of the dungeon, this means clearing the same dungeon level again -- and again -- and again. You will find yourself continuing to play long after you want to quit, just because you want to relocate your character on another level rather than quit and have to clear the current level yet again.

Then there is the problem of lag. The servers are quite laggy and lag death is common; oddly, the amount of lag seems unrelated to server load. Players are forgiving because game play is cheap or free, but it can still get quite frustrating.

A very fun way to spend $5 for a month. I doubt my interest will last that long.

Great Deal and the Bling Gnome too!

The Retail Box for Dungeon Runners, the hottest MMORPG going, is a great deal. You get the game CD, a set of way cool loading instructions, and a code for 6 months of Premium Membership, which is worth more than the price of the box! And the best thing is that this is the ONLY way to get the famous Bling Gnome who runs around picking up treasure for you! This is a great game for beginning gamers all the way up to old timers bored with the same old stuff in other games.

20$ well spent

for the 20$ you can pick this up for in any store you get TONS of value. it is an awesome fallback game! kind of like civ 4 or audio surf in the fact that some days you don't feel like dedicating hours to grinding out the same things you have done before. so you load up dungeon runners and get a healthy dose of madness.

one of the best things about this game over most others is you are not locked into being 1 archetype, you can be a bow wielding mage or a mage with a huge shield that tanks and spanks, or you can go for the classic mage that is in fact a mage its up to you!

the silliness is strong in this one, who needs a plot when you have comedy? and this game has it in spades, poking fun at its contemporaries through yes repetitive quests, and insanely funny weapon names. even the monster names are funny and the bling gnome... is just off the wall.

this game is a throwback to classic dungeon crawlers for the Genesis and tg-16, the more you hit the dungeon the better your loot gets, add to that the ability to ramp up the difficulty to increase the drop rates and you end up with something more challenging for greater rewards! i have played this game on and off for a long time now and have to say, most months i used to leave the sub on even if i wasnt playing. now with this box all the more reason.

i see some merchants selling this for over 20$. they should be banned or beheaded, this is intended to be a 20$ box packed with tons of value! once you remove the 20$ part the value spirals downward until you may as well just be playing it for free or pay them through the games web site.

So much value for the price!

It's amazing how much you get for the price of the retail box. The bling gnome is a massive time saver, the two free months is icing on the cake.

You also get trial codes for the other NCSOFT titles if you're curious on their other games.

You boys in Austin did good! I just want a way to outfit my bling gnome to make him look different, or a way to summon a girl bling gnome that has some other kind of roll in the game. Keep up the good work! Well worth the pice!!!
