TRIPLE PLAY ALL THE WAY!!!!

5 Rating: 5, Useful: 1 / 5

Triple Play 2002 is amazing!!! I'm a HUGE baseball fan, and they only have 2 baseball games, All Star Baseball 2003,which stinks like dog poop. And then there is tp2002!!! Here are some CONS which will help:
Graphics: not so hot. you'd think they'd be better for xbox.
Commentary: Bob Costas back from the dead. every time i hear his voice i think: 2002 Olympics.
Play: Perfect. you'd be mad because yur down 3-0. But if u do a draft you can get one helluva lineup and come back to win.
Feature: Draft. U can get a horrible team like the d-rays, and go to win the world series.BUY THIS GAME NOW!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

...The game looks great and plays great. It fun and a great game to play the season on. The batting and the pitching look like the real players. The faces look great to...

Don't know what to expect???

This game is a bit of an unknown. Last year's release of Triple Play Baseball was EXACTLY the same as TP 01. The only additions I noticed were 2 new stadiums and updated rosters. Fortunately I didn't waste my money and buy it. I just downloaded the trial version of the PC game. Hopefully EA sports got their act together this year to make a solid baseball game.

It ain't perfect...but kid, you ain't either!

All these gamers whining about this and that- the game is fine-
the stadiums look terrific... o.k. so the heads are a bit oversized at times, it's kinda funny sometimes.
Anyways, rent the darn game if you wanna find out if you like a game, why you askin' me anyways?

It's a fun Baseball Game-

But considering the power of the X BOX and the fact that it's 2002 now, not 1992; I was thinking that EA would make one Helluva Baseball Game for this system...It is fun to play. It is true that the players have anatomicly Incorrect head sizing (Plus Size Egos?), but it is just a video game anyways... so I say yay! I bought it on the EA name- I don't regret it...
but next season I am renting games before I buy 'em.
Peace-

Toss-up between this and All-Star Baseball

I though All-Star baseball was much to difficult on the offensive side, so I traded it in for this game. Unfortunately, this one seems to make it too easy to get a hit. The graphics are good, though the bodies of the players are not always the right size, and it is difficult to get used to the camera movements when somebody gets a hit. The players' faces, though are usually very accurate.
Bob Costas and Harold Reynolds add a nice touch of realism (though Reynolds sometimes sounds like Chris Rock).
I like games where it's difficult, but not impossible to get a hit. Batting is too easy in this game, too hard in Acclaim's All-Star Baseball. My recommendation is to rent the two and decide which one you prefer.

good easy playing game

i got Triple Play 2002, cause it looked awsome.

bought it at Best Buy on a gift card, and i love it.

the game is awsome, the music is good, and best of all, it's a very EASY and SIMPLE baseball game.

nothing really special about it. the players faces are AWSOME, and are actually more realistic than the faces of ESPN baseball 2k4 and 2k5. yep, Triple Play 2002 had better more life like face resemblences than the newest baseball games on the market.

the stadiums are all awsome and very accurate, including real up to date stats at Yankee stadium. there are moments that capture a big game moment. home runs and celebrations are awsome.

what i love so much about this game, is that it reminds me of Ken Griffey Jr. baseball, it's so simple and easy to play, not like today's games which are sometimes complicated.

Costas and Harold Reynolds do commentary, and it's awsome, especially when Reynolds sings Take me out to the ball game.

only problems i have, is that it does slow down sometimes. real small glitches where it seems like the game is trying to load between innings. but other than that, good game.

game also includes Barry Bonds and Jose Canseco....;)

overall, good game.

Lets hurry up! The season is starting!

That is exactly what EA did with this game. It was definately hurried. EA left themselves an extremely low baseline to improve upon. I expect a better effort next time. If you love baseball you will still enjoy this game.

What a huge disappointment!

Unfortunately, this was the first baseball video game I've actually sat down and played. I'd seen them before, but never actually played them. ...Triple Play 2002 has got to be one of the worst baseball games in history unless you still live ten years ago, a time this game was cutting edge.

1. What's up with the player bodies. On the box there's a rendering of Luis Gonzalez in the back which looks great, but in the game he looks just as disproportioned as everyone else. All the players look like the old baseball dolls with the big heads. I even smacked my controller against the screen to see if their heads would bob side to side.

2. The general proportions of the game are horrible. The players look like midgets on a midget sized field. Sure the stadiums look great in certain shots, but the standard game shot is bad.

3. The commentary by Bob Costas is flat, and like someone else mentioned the other guy sounds like a bad Chris Rock imitation. Sometimes it doesn't even apply to what's happening on the field.

4. The sounds aren't too great either, and the same cheesy intro music over and over for important players is boooring. Not to mention the repetitive playing of Twisted Sister's classic 80's "I want to rock" which is good to hear maybe once for feel and nostalgia's sake, but after 40 times, one can certainly do without it.

5. The field looks horrible. The graphics in general look like a game of maybe 5 years ago, except like I mentioned before some of the stadium models.

6. Gameplay is too simple. When you can hit a minimum of 8 homeruns per game, it is a real disppointing game. The game is too simplistic. This does not necessarily mean it is not fun, but after a few games, that's it, it becomes boring as there is no challenge in it. You can see where the ball will be pitched and even if you hide that, it isn't all that hard.

7. Wow 7. MAJOR GLITCHES HERE! Nothing can turn one off a game as much as bad programming. There are glitches everywhere in this game, but one I could not live with and is unforgivable considering one catalogs players in a database and should check them when making a quality game. This is the player of the game. More than once with different teams, the picture of the player of the game would not match the player. For example, let's say the player of the game was Maddux, then you might get a picture of Barry Bonds next to his name. This is ridiculous and is a total turn off.

In conclusion, don't waste your money here...

Will there ever be a good baseball game?

This game was a major disappointment for a number of reasons.

1 - Choppy game play. Your fielders should not pause for a second every time before throwing the ball. Very annoying. With all of the player animations these days, the game play is not nearly as smooth. Does anyone remember Baseball Stars for the original NES? One of the smoothest playing baseball games, just lacked in the graphics department. But hey, that was then.
2 - Horrible camera view options, both manual and automatic. Home runs are the most exciting part of baseball, and to have the camera fixed at home plate while you watch the ball fade out of sight 400 feet away is very anti-climactic. There is no watching the runners round the bases, just a meager celebration at the plate. Poor.
3 - Having to view Point #2 in instant replay in the exact same camera view it originally occurred in. One of the best upgrades a few years back was the option to rotate the camera around a given spot and to zoom in. What happened to that? It's in every other game.
4 - Commentary annoying, although, what game doesn't have annoying commentators if you play it enough? Drawback anyway.
5 - Competition not too difficult. Many sports games become easy to master, so therefore, to avoid Points 1 & 5, I simply play a game on user for both sides and switch controller use to the team that is batting. It makes for even competition and I don't have to deal with the frustrating fielding play.

The controller switch option mid-game is the only option that made me keep the game.
