Avoid this game if you value your social life!

Avoid this game if you value your social life! It's one incredible time sink like you've never seen in your life. The game never ends and to excel in the game you MUST join a guild and you'll HAVE TO BUY the expansions just to keep up even if you're not guilded. SONY/SOE (Sony of America) formerly Verant has got it figured what it takes to reel you in; Hook, Line and Sinker but in a way that gradual so you won't notice the Hook in your mind. You'll always be looking for that next nice item for your charactors which will be old in three to six months (new expansion time) and you'll always be stuck in that same sorry rut. Wash, rinse and repeat.

Then, on top of all that you could play a favored charactor like the Monk Class as an example for years and then one day you log in and find out that they have nerfed (lowered it's abilities)the class to a level that might make the class unappealing for you to play it anymore and guess what. It's just too bad cause there's nothing much you can do about it except to wait to see IF they will unnerf it or wait for more expansions and hope new equipment will come out that will increase abilities past the old nerf LOL. It's the same with more than a few of the classes.

Sadly I played that [game] for two years and bought expansion after expansion and payed month after month till I wised up. Later I read that behind the scenes they (SOE) watch players play as if they are performing animal experiements just like doctors do on their experimental subjects, so they can judge how best to keep you playing (kinda sounds like the cigarette companies and planned addiction to me or pavlov's dog experiments) but of course they probably would deny that....

I recommend you try Morrowind if soloing is ok with you or Neverwinter Nights if you want to group and play online. The servers are player run and managed and there's no stringing you out for monthly payments either cause it's free after you purchase the game. Anyone that wants to can start a server and GameMaster it. With either one you avoid that little spinner that the gopher seems to always be in, the wheel is spinning but its on the road to nowhere.

Sucks.

I have no idea why people like this game. Here is a list of bad things about it:

1. It has patheticly bad graphics.
2. You spend numerous hours farming off bats and rats.
3. You die very easily.
4. You don't see yourself attacking enemies.
5. I could go on, but I'm lazy.

After all the hype, I tried this game. Im a vet of several On - Line games over the past few years and this one is hands down terrible!
Graphics are dated, the interface is clumsy and difficult to use. The is nothing, I repeat, nothing compelling to do in game beside whack at badly animated monsters. After all these years EQ does NOT have any player owned housing!?
Dont waste your money on this game.
Here are 3 superior alts - all have player housing
Dark Age of Camelot - compelling game to level in, beautiful graphics.
Asherons Call DM - full of interesting content, graphics a bit dated (but far superior to EQ)
Horizons - great graphics/audio, player driven/built communities and economy, you can play a dragon - need I say more?

ok i started playing this game a couple years ago and im in hook line and sinker! i would not recommend this game to anyone that has a life i.e friends and loved ones. cuz guess what? you'll forget what they look like and how they sound. on the good side you'll be able to recognize a guild mate all the way across a zone lol. customer service for this game is virtually non-existent. in fact login servers have been down for quite awhile now and there has been very little feedback from sony about the problem. must've spilled their beer on the wires! they know we're hooked they dont care? also be prepared to spend big bucks upgrading your system to get the best game play! which equates to way too much work for the end-user to be able to play a game they are paying for! "delete this , download that",
"if that doesnt work do this or try this". "hey its your system, the problem could not possibly be on our end"! buy the game and these words will haunt you "you're in our world now!!!". good luck see ya in norrath. that is when and if i can log in!!
spend your money more wisely and take your family(or friends) out to diner and a movie!

Love Hate Relationship

I had a love hate relationship with this game. there were a lot of things I loved about this game and a lot of things I hated.first off the good things: 1 I loved the masiveness of this game it is huge. I played for 6 months and only covered about 1/3 of the game this playing around ten hours a day 6 days a week (I am retired) It is also very addictive. 2 I loved the freedom of this game you don't have a story line to stick to you basicly go where you want when you want, just like in real life. 3 I liked being able to stop and talk to people, it is a masive chat room. I met people from all around the world really neat. 4 the graphics are terrific very cool. 5 I loved the spells there are so many and the graphics for them are cool too. 6 I loved the dungons and dragons story line and it being set in midevil times very cool, I really like this type of game.Ok, now I will tell you what I hated about this game:1 grouping, this game is very hard and nerve racking in order to get to the top of your game you are forced to group at first you could solo but as they kept adding the expantions they started smerffing the charictors making them weaker so you would have to group. I liked to solo because for one thing I didn't have to share the spoils of war with anyone, also some players did't want to share with the group they wanted all the spoils for themselvs when I grouped I expected to share and did, but left groups very fast when they started to hog the spoils. The grouping its self was not bad it was kind of fun to talk and get to know other people it was the looting part of it I hated.2 this is a free market society you have to buy your weapons and armour of course the best stuff is the most expensive stuff that is where the spoils come in. In oreder to get the money you need you have to kill monsters and loot the spoils then either sell them to other players or to venders so when you get in a greedy group you don't get payed for your efforts and most of the groups are like that. Other games have elimanted this from their group games which makes grouping a lot more fair and more fun they just give all the members in the group the same rewards rather than making them loot a single item. 3 camping I hated having to camp first you had to find an area where a certain monster was that had a great piece of armor or a wepon or item that sold for a great price usally when you got there there were other players wating in line to camp. It took me 2 days to get one place and if you died others would take it from you or groups would root you out especally if you were soloing other games have elimanted this too to make theirs more enjoyable and fair. 4 the graphics with the first 3 games the charactors looked a lot better then in pop or sol for example the females in the first three they were very pretty and sexy but with pop and sol they turned very ugly their bodies looked like they were 65 yers old or so yuck!. 5 this game starts off easy but gets much harder as you go on there are 65 levels and then you have your inate levels that take as long to do as the regular levels I made it to 45 6 when you die you loose your hard fought experiance I really hated this you could die a couple of times and loose two days worth of work not only that but you had to go get your corpse in order to get your gear and weapons if you didn't you would lose them as well I have droped as much as 2 levels before just trying to get my corpse back 7 secrets most of the spells after level 45 for my charitor were with monsters that I had to fight for them however I could never find out which ones to fight or where they were. There I had worked hard to get to level 45 to get these really great spells and everything was a mystery no one knew. finally after waiting 2 days for a camp and dying with in 30 minutes coming back to find it taken over by a small group that would not let me have it back I had had enough I quit.In sumation this game is fasinating, fun, and huge but its also hard, nerveracking, agravating, and you must group to get anywhere. If you are not social and don't realy like to group than I would sugest finding a different game. I hope this helps

It's just good!

I have played this game and found it to be pretty bland. It definately did not live up to its hype! Not enough action (compared to planetside). Camera view did not allow for you to see whats behind you or in your preferial vision. Not to mention that the game is very difficult to learn at first. Other than that the game is pretty good.

I just found this game boring. There's little else I can say. I have played a whole bunch of games, and this did not catch my interest after a year. I mean, I'm still playing Diablo and Diablo II.

Problem with EQ is that Sony has decided to consider paying customers as a secondary concern. Here are some of the problems you will face in purchasing this product.

Firstly, if you don't have every expansion, then Sony will attempt to get you to buy that expansion with a pop up window. Never mind that you are already paying them to play their game. Friend of mine got all but the latest expansion and got harassed immediately the day he signed up. Current expansion (Omens of War) doesn't come out until July. They started harassing us 2 or 3 weeks ago about it. This will continue on a daily basis and there is no way to play the game without dealing with it. You can't ignore it or escape out of it. There is no way to turn the solicitation off. Not Sonys policy. Glad my playstation doesn't do the same thing.

Secondly, bugs can take weeks or never to be fixed. Sony has been prioritizing releasing expansions and making changes to the game instead of fixing the bugs that have been present for some time. For example, boats were a long standing problem (years) that never worked properly. With Gates of Discord what do they add? MORE BOATS. Yup, these didn't work either. Go fig.

Customer service. Well if your having issues in game, it will take anywhere from hours to weeks to get assistance. The only way to do this is to stay logged into the game until you get a response (and hopefully you will be looking at your screen at that time). If you log out, your request will be deleted. They tend to have many loopholes as far as player assistance is concerned. Like not having 'exact' verbage for example. Also, if you need outside technical help, the employees working for Sony will either tell you to petition in game (see the beginning of this paragraph for how effective that is) or tell you to check the online help file.

Now if all those problems don't detour you, here are the benefits. Other people I have met online can be a joy to work with. EQ is a game designed for grouping and it is strongly encouraged. Many zones to explore with various mobs to fight. Quests are fun for items or faction (exp is always negliable). There is tradeskilling, which can be tiresome but also a good way to bring in income. It is a hack and slash game though. Don't you think otherwise. Thats the only way to get any exp to lvl.

Graphical MUD

When Everquest first came out I saw the price for the game. $49.99 or $39.99, I can't remember which. Then I found out you had to pay a monthly fee. I said to myself, "People have to be crazy." Then I found Everquest: Evolution for $29.99 at Best Buy. I said to myself, "Ok. I think I will check this out."

IF you have ever played the Mirkwood MUD or Sojurn MUD back during the early days of the Internet then you already have a heads up on how to play Everquest. The difference is EQ has graphics and those other MUDs are text-based.

Evolutions is worth the price even if you have to pay $13 a month. I would have given it more stars, but I have only been playing it a week.
