Are you a new mac user(iMac)? Maybe, 2 million are. If you use a processor below a G3, I can say this is not a good game. Q3 requires a good (128bit ATI or Voodoo) video card. Now come on, its obvious that a faster and newer computer would have better graphics in complex games such as Q3. Personialy, I'm running a 400Mhz iMac DV special edition, and seems to run ok compared to a PC I've seen. If you have an older mac with expansion PCI slots, Get a Voodoo card. Apple and 3DFX(the maker of voodoo cards) are expected to make a surprising annoucement concering compatability. A voodoo card would work better. If you still don't know, download the demo, it will take a few hours but its worth it.

The best multiplayer shooter? I think not.

First off, this is stricktly a multiplayer game catering to the multiplayer market. It is best played with a cable modem or some other form of high-speed connection. Those of us with dial-up modems are at a sore disadvantage. Those with dial-up connections move far more slowly and are easier to hit than those lucky souls with cable modems. Also, the short single-player game included is not only boring, but is really just a way to train for multiplayer bouts online. Furthermore, the game, while a solid offering, isn't nearly as fun or a technically impressive as Unreal Tournament. Buy this game only if you don't have the cahoneys to buy the far-superior Unreal Tournament.

Quake 3 Arena for Mac Rocks

I love quake 3 arena. its a beautiful and stunningly realistic 3d shooter than is AWESOME for multiplayer netgaming, which is what the game is meant to do. Its so cool! The network stability is great and I love the soundtrack of Nine Inch Nails and thier adrenaline-pumping tracks included with Quake 3 Arena for q3a. Buy this product. Rocks out.

Although there really isn't much new here this is the best death match I have ever played. It is fast, furious and incredibly violent. The curved surface bring a totally new dimension to map building and environemnts. They've definitely trumped the Unreal engine but what's next? Another death match would surely then just be beating a dead horse...As for the CTF...errr could be better and the grapple model looks...unfinished. As for TF2 it's not coming to the Mac and besides there's really going to be one game for team play in 2000. Halo.

Quake 3 Review

As a quick in an out action game Quake 3 is as good as it gets. Easy to jump into, and rack up a few frags to blow off steam. As a serious in-depth game it doesnt appear to have much going for it, but with the community of Quake followers i know it wont be long before people start turning out some excellent mods and skins. A must buy for mac gamers with powerful enough hardware

Quake 3 is a beautiful, addicting 3D shooter, with its true strength lying of course in multiplayer. The graphics are stunning, and the weapons unique. I would say however, having played both, that it doesn't hold a candle to Unreal Tournament. UT's graphics are slightly better, the bots are more intelligent, and all in all, the overall gameplay is slicker and more creative. Plus the UT single-player games, while not its strength either, have longer replay value. If you buy both games, you can't go wrong, they both are a lot of fun and in their own ways very well-done and addicting. If you're debating which 1 of the 2 to get, without hesitation I recommend going with Unreal Tournament.

Obviously, the question of whether Q3 or UT is the better game is one of personal taste ... that Q3 looks terrific is beyond question, and as to the old familiar weapons, well, why tamper with success? Sure, it's not too original, but then if you've been around for a couple of years of ID games, at least you know how to use these honeys. And they all have that viscerally satisfying delivery system! But what I've come to love most about ID's games, and Quake III is no exception, is stability. Even on a fast beefy Mac, the original Unreal was a royal pain to get to work crash free, let alone in online games. Quake III doesn't ask for much (a certain tech baseline taken for granted, but then most new games require that these days), and it really delivers speed, looks, and stability, without fussing with your system configuration and extensions one bit. Oh yeah, and it's extremely violent, brutal and graphic ... a true Quaker's delight!

Although it IS incredebly demonic with crucified bodies and those little Lucifer stars everywhere, it has great graphics. If your looking for a great online game, this and Unreal Tournament definantly match the bill. But, if you need to decide between one or the other, get UT. Because Q3 is so dark, gloomy, and bland, UT is a whole lot more colorful than Q3. UT is also expandable with maps and mods galore. The only feature in this that tops UT is that Q3 has curved surfaces, but UT makes up for it with great physics and cool futuristic levels (for the most part, if you like old fashioned castle tpye levels, UT has plenty of those, too).

There is a mistake with the information. It says that there isa flamethrower and that there are types of classes, light, medium, andheavy. But infact there are no classes and no flamethrower in the game. This is a great game for any operating system and I gave it a five, it holds up to the greatness of the Quake series. It is, in my opinion better than half life and Unreal/Unreal Tovurnement

This one was a real surprise to me - I usually play shooters like Quake/Doom/Descent in single player mode because in europe we have bad (and expensive) net connections. But from the start it behaved like a multiplayer - no huge levels to explore, backtracking etc. just straight into the fun.

Basically it felt like playing with real people - the other figures can get pretty aggressive. But they also turn on each other rather than all going for you. And they all run around a lot so it feels much more like a Multiplayer. The fun fact is that it is easier to win a game with loads of enemies than one with just one - because in the latter case then (s)he focuses on you.

It's fast and furious, levels are not too big, lots of secret areas, designed with just fun in mind. The graphics are in a class of its own, comparable to descent3 - very colorful! Makes a great difference to Q2. Gameplay is fantastic if you have a PC fast enough and a good 3d accelerator.
