A very unique, different game with a great story!!!!!!!!!

I know many people have different oppinions about this game. My oppinion is that it's really worth buying. I've been playing many games, but i ve never been stuck to the ps2 for as long as this game!!! Sometimes I'm even playing it for 4-5 hours straight during winter break when i have free time. . . before playing ATL i was playing final fantasy X, but's it's been on and off - I'm not even done with it!! It's a good game (FFX) but i don't really see what's so special about it. To me the battle system of FFX was too common. But I'll get on with it, since this isn't a review for that game.
So anyways ATL:TOS is the best rpg ever in my oppinion! I loved how you can see one story unfold from two different perspectives and every character had his or her own personality and strengths and weaknesses. I grew to love all the characters, especially Darc, Delma, and Maru! The plot is really tense or peaceful-there are many feelings of hatred or anger, at the same time many happy feelings.
You travel on a map, and I loved that (Its unique, and no having to walk around pointless places to get to your destination!) The battle system was great. Its different, and though may be long i never found it dull. You have to think strategically as to where to hit your opponents from (from the back you'd give them more damage) From what distance and where (you move during battle!!) there are many spells and special moves, and characters can even combine attacks. The graphics and moderately high, Its easy to move around, and you get attached to characters!! sometimes I find myself wondering what will happen next even when not playing the game (I'm not completely done with it and can't wait for the ending but feel sad that it'll be over) (I hope they'll make another ATL game) Basically the best parts of the game are : story, gameplay, uniqueness, and depth (this game is filled with meanings). All in all, don't hesitate to buy this-just do it!

I've played Arc the Lad 3, 4 and 5, and this one is the best. There is
a certain amount of replay value, but not as much as some other games.
The visuals are very good, the story line is very good. I enjoyed
playing this game and after a few months I'll probably play it again.

Quite good

This is a very good game, overall. The tactical battles are a good progression from the previous Arc games, and are a lot of fun. The two alternating viewpoints of the story are good, and the game does a good job of creating a hero who is apealing and sympathetic despite being a pretty far cry from a conventional good-guy RPG hero. As an added bonus, it has some of the best music- especially battle music- I've heard in a while.

A sometimes-good RPG

ATL:TOS is, at times, a very good RPG. Unfortunately, ATL does feel like the generic equivalent of the Final Fantasy series, but it has enough creativity and character development to keep things interesting.

The story in ATL is mostly superfluous, but the character development is very well done and fun to watch. In the game you play from two perspectives, Kharg and Darc. Their stories become more intertwined as you progress farther into the game, sort of like Suikoden III. The story itself is strictly generic; find elemental spirit stones to save the world from the evil force that wants to complete the ultimate weapon. The fun part is the characters themselves. Personally, I think one of the main characters (Kharg) is a tool, but his counterpart, Darc, is much more interesting and fun to play. They share a light/dark and good/evil dichotomy, and Darc is the dark/evil part. Much more interesting in my opinion. The supporting cast is well done, too, especially the later characters in Darc's story. I would describe the supporting cast as surprisingly creative.

Surprisingly creative is a good way to describe some of the monsters in the game as well. There are some of the obligatory attacking birds and plants, but there are also some creatures you have never seen before, something that is becoming more and more rare in modern RPGs.

PROS: Decent graphics, creative character and creature design, addictive in nature
CONS: Generic story, generic feel to the whole game
Score: 4

Not bad...as a stand-alone.

In comparison to Arc the Lad I & II, this game was disappointingly typical. It's a little drawn out, with a very predictable plot. A real disappointment after the amount of fun I had with the first two, and the Arena.

It's an OK game in itself, minus the fact that the voice acting is atrocious, but if you're looking for the fun packed into the original two, don't buy it. If you want something to vaguely amuse you as a game, go ahead.

pretty good

Ok, u play as two main characters, Darc and Kharg. Both are half human half deimos(civilized monsters). Darc grew up as deimos(called a deimos wannabe cuz he looks deimos/human) and Kharg grew up a noble, royal, human(looks all human). Humans and deimos realllllly hate eahc other. So u know theres gonna be conflict between the two. Oh and theres 5 magical stones that when collected gives u ultimate power and theres an evil bad guy with a huge empire collecting them. And u have to stop(as both characters) and save ur ho(ho of both characters).

Now, gameplay. I really liked the gameplay, it is final fantasy tactics kinda except very much improved and not nearley as hard. U takes turns moving and each character has a highlighted space and u can move all over it until u take an action(item, attack, magic, special move). U can also position arrow fighters so they hit two or three enemys at a time. Now this is not the easiest game in the world. I died plenty of non-boss battles. I didnt finish it cuz it was rented from blockbuster and i had to return it after only thirty hours of gameplay(i was almost done). So if u dont do side missions, like me, and u play rpgs a lot u can finish this game in maybe 35 hours.

So after all this positive stuff why the 4? I returned the game today and for the life of me i cant remember half of the characters names. Theres a big guy with an ax....ohhh ganz...theres a wolfish deimos..i remember maru, he and darc were probaly the best characters. Maru is this lost prince/theif with an arrow, he loooks like a jungle boy or something. Theres a character thats khargs best friend and oh my god, she is TIFA. I swear. She is tifas(ff7)exact character. Same personality, she obviously likes the main character, shes a good girl but not as much as lilia....which reminds me of...AERIS(ff7)....after awhile ull forget about this game. I didnt have a memorable feeling to it, and its best characters could be compared to final fantasys weakest characters. I like the setting, I like the game. I just dont think Id ever want to play it again or care if i finish.

Well this game is great the battles in the game are a little bit easy you dont have to at a high level to beat the game but it has a great story line. Kharg is a human/deimos and he is try ing to save the human race from the deimos. Darc is deimos/human and he is trying to kill the human race. Though out the game Kharg and Darc find out they are twin brothers trying to kill each other. at the end they team up to save the world. If you like the other Arc the Lad game this would be a great game to have.

Good all around game

The story of this RPG is amazing. There is a unique perspective shift between the main characters, and the way the two characters' stories are tied together is very well done. The characters are diverse and each one is very believable in motive. The character development is well done for even the minor characters.

The voice acting in this game is remarkable as well, though some of the in-battle voices can get slightly annoying.

I guess there isn't much more for me to say considering most of the reviews seem to be pretty good. I definately recommend this game.

I have never written a review before, but I feel that I must warn off anyone thinking of getting this game before they waste 30-40 hours of their life. This is one of the least enjoyable games I have ever played. The worst thing about this game is that it is just intersting enough to keep you playing, while never giving any real satisfaction from the experience. The voice acting is absolutely terrible, the characters personalities seem to come right out of some cheesy teen flick, and the endless battles quickly become tedious. There are NO NEW ARMOR OR WEAPONS in the game, period. They try to make up for this lack with some lame weapon upgrades, such as a damiond coating, that must be equipped to improve each characters attack power. Really, how do you apply a daimond coating to a sword? There are barely any treasure chests at all to find in this game, and most just have spirit stones and the same items you buy in the shops. The game is super easy until the final boss, whom I had to spend hours leveling up to defeat. Finally, the story could have been interesting if the dialouge between the humans and deimos had not been so completely unbelievable and two-dimensional. Any comparisons between this game and Shining Force or Final Fantasy Tactics are purely aesthetical, as those two games are some of my favorites of all time. In any area other than graphics this game falls far short of those two. Apparently gaming companies these days are under the impression that some pretty graphics and a bunch of animated cut scenes make a great game. Sounds kind of like Hollywood.

good but not keeping up with hack
