This rocks

I played the demos for this game and it rocks. I saw potential for many mini side quests, a pretty good fighting system and like others have said, you can move while battling. The controls were set up nicely and were easy to use. If you position yourself so that the enemy is in a column or row, you can hit multiple enemies in one strike (so don't bunch up your team. What goes around comes around). It also has skill strikes, level ups, weapon build ups, etc. Yes, it's similar to FF games but it's a great set up. Excellent graphics and sound abound.
The only bad thing I saw is small. They had this big opening with dialog but when you begin your quests and speak to other key people, you're stuck ready text. It'd be nice if you talk to a key person in the game, you could hear it. When you talk to random city dwellers it could be text. This way, you know when you're getting important info.
I'm still rating this a 5 star game because the TEXT issue is a small one. I also have not played the whole game so I can't tell you how long it lasts or if the ending is anything like the beginning but if it is, it should rock.

Tries to achieve, but simply falls flat.

Arc the Lad:TOTS could've been a great RPG, but it's held back by its clear shortcomings, and simply turns out mediocre.

The Good: Good dual-character switching storyline, some interesting characters, strange battle system.

The Bad: Many boring flat characters (with the exception of Darc and Maru), Incredibly predictable and cliched storyline, drags on for far too long, battles become boring, takes a long time to get into, mediocre graphics, lame soundtrack, terrible spirit stones system, no new weapons to get.

In the end, Arc the Lad could've been so much more but it simply isn't. It's not worth the time nor the effort. Skip this RPG.

this game is good but u should go with hack the bad thing about arc the lad is for one the battle system is very boaring and the game is hard to understand but waht it does have is good sounding rpg music and the graphics are pretty good but overall it gets 3 stars because at least they tried but i should say save ur money for the hack series much better game.

This is a good rpg to play. There are some definite problems with how the characters look. (look at their fingers in some scenes) and sometimes you just want them to shut up so you can go kick some butt, but overall the story is good and the graphics are great with an awesome battle system that ffx2 seems to have ripped off a little bit. overall definetely worth to rent to see if you're interested in buying.

Good, but too predictable, cliched, and flawed.

Arc The Lad TOTS is a good game but definitely not a great one.

+ Graphics, voice acting are great. Sound is ok. Some interesting characters. Dual character switching keeps the story fresh.
+/- Battle system, weapons.
- Incredibly predictable storylines and characters (with the exception of maru and darc.) No new weapons to be obtained. Battle system gets repetitive quickly along with the random battles when moving on map. Characters movements do not match with talking, and repeat in loops.

Arc the Lad is a relatively fun RPG for the PS2. I would recommend renting it first before purchasing unless you can get it for 10 bucks or less. The game isn't for everyone, but I personally enjoyed it despite its flaws. There are better RPG's available though so if you don't like it keep searching.

I think this is a realy good game. The graphics are good and the game play is fairly easy to undersand. This is a great game for anyone who enjoys a good adventure. The description on the game that amazon.com gave explains the game well but like all the others the number of players was not told.

my first arc the lad game, not bad! at times it gets boring but if you really get into games, this is one you'll have to check out. It only takes a lil over 50 hours to beat but its worth your time. Minus the long conversations and this game will rock!

There will always be hope...

I absolutely loved this game despite the fact that I had never heard or seen the Arc the lad series. I had a lot of low expectations of it, because I use to feel that no rpg game compared to Final Fantasy 7 but this game changed me completely. Okay, here's alitte sneak peak in my own words. You play two main characters who have a strong secret (no spoiling) connection to each other and fight hard to defeat and rid the world of basically humans or monsters called "Deimos" depending on which side you prefer (you are basically both). I choose deimos =D. Anyway, comes down to the fact that there's a big bad guy wanting to destory the world and you for the first time have to defeat him by bringing hope and peace between humans and deimos for a brief time. It's just really captivating. I am a REALLY picky gamer...but trust me if you like rpgs and drama plots or dig the series this should be on your list. I hope I helped out!

Good game, combat gets very repetitive

The story to this game progresses quite nicely and alternating story lines add to the interest. The combat, however, becomes quite repetitive after a while and starts to detract from the game. The use of voice acting is also quite inconsistent, with some cut-scenes using voice and others using text in seemingly the same sorts of situations.

Arc the Lad Twilight of the Spirits Review

Arc Lad has been generally speaking a very solid series of turn based strategy role playing games and i'm happy to say Arc the Lad Twilight of the Spirits is, though a little different, no exeption. The primary difference is the combat system the first three games used a turn based gridmap to move and fight, this game uses a radius around the character simalar to the one in Breath of Fire: Dragon Quarter.
