Just plain bad

Lately there have been a number of games made based on classic movies (From Russia With Love, The Godfather, Scarface), and they've all had mixed results, and for those expecting anything halfway decent out of the video game adaptation of Quentin Tarantino's debut film should steer clear of Reservoir Dogs. The game basically runs parallel to the film, with many of the scenes from the film re-done in full CG effect, though many of the cutscenes look pretty bad. Your job is to carry out missions based on events that you only heard about in the film; ranging from car chases, dodging cops, and above all, taking hostages to survive. What's really sad about Reservoir Dogs is how quickly boring the game gets. While you can choose to be a violent psychopath or a smooth professional criminal, either way the game gets pretty boring pretty quickly, and taking hostages doesn't really do much to the already lame AI. The best thing about the game is by far the audio and voice acting, even if Michael Madsen is the only cast member to lend his voice to the game. The graphics are choppy and the controls serve their purpose, but beyond that there isn't anything here that we haven't seen or heard before, and it hardly does justice to the source material. All in all, even if you're a die hard fan of the film, this is better left on the shelf.

fun and authentic

First of all, the violence in the game is pretty bad. As long as you can separate the silly game play from reality. I think this game is completely authentic to the theme of the movie. Allowing you to play through scenes in the movie and even play through moments only talked about in the film. the characters somewhat look like the actors for the most part. Some voices aren't exact. Obviously Mr. Blonde sounds great with the help of Michael Madsen. The guy doing Mr. pink does decent impression and Nice guy Eddies voice is DEAD on perfect!
Game play is mostly a shoot-em-up style game. Collecting different weapons, smoke grenades, flash grenades as well as blueprints ( to unlock extras ). While your path of travel is somewhat limited, the scenery varies enough to keep it interesting. There are some mixed in driving missions which aren't too bad and have a strong similarity to the GTA games. There's hostage taking, manipulation and police opposition too. Sometimes hiding out and using stealth can get you out of a jam instead of just shooting your way out. Unlike some other games like GTA, hiding behind objects will sometimes throw the police off and keep them guessing where you are. Good graphics and easy to use controls with zoom in targeting. Great job on the sound too ( voices in other rooms, sirens, shattering glass ) I can't say enough about the great job they did with the accuracy of the movie to game story and play. If your a fan of the movie and these style games this is a must have! I am surprised at many of the negative reviews for this game. I can be picky with games but I enjoyed Reservoir Dogs a lot and think it has great replay value as well.

Wow. Well first off, I do not agree with the negative reviews of the game. Basically, the game is based on the events that happen during the heist, but as a viewer of the film we do not know what really happens, thus the game explains every detail about it.

PROS:

*Voice overs are AWESOME, even though Michael Madsen is the only character who's voice is used for his actual character.
*Gameplay is great. You can play as your favorite character and experience great parts of the film that were never seen before. You're also assigned missions that involve driving which are always fun, such as driving Mr. White and Mr. Brown back to the hide-out as Mr. Brown, after you were just shot and have blood in your eyes. Good stuff. Also, after every mission you are assigned a "grade" telling you how good your performance was. Basically, the whole game is more strategic; trying to figure out how to sneak around cops, taking hostages, etc. It's less of a "shoot 'em up" type of game.
*Difficulty: You can choose an easy or normal difficulty, though both are not too hard.
*Music: AHH!!! The music on this game is amazing. It's all from the 70's and features some really great hits.
*Graphics: The environmental graphics are excellent, but the character ones, ehh not so much.

CONS:

*Graphics: Like I mentioned before the character graphics really are not all that special. Such as how Mr. Orange has a bowl cut and Mr. White looks like he's twelve.
*Repetitive: A few missions are somewhat repetitive in which the environment is the same and the mission you must complete is the same, even though you are playing as different characters.

Other than that, this game rules. Recommended for any fan of the film, or any gaming fan in general. Oh, and no, you do not get to cut off Marvin's ear.

If You Are A Big Fan Who Is Forgiving, Then You Will Love This Game

No, the graphics are far from the best and the characters look nothing like the actors except for Mr. Blonde, but this game is still a lot of fun if you absolutely love the movie Reservoir Dogs. The next best thing to being a part of the movie is playing the game based on the movie, and that is exactly what this game does. The sweetest part of the game is that you get to play all of the characters we know of color, Mr. Blonde, Mr. Blue and so on.

Like what has been said already, the characters don't look like their movie counterparts, but some look closer than others. For example, Mr. Pink still has his goatee, but doesn't really look like Steve Buscemi. Mr. Orange has orange hair and doesn't look like Tim Roth, but small things like that didn't distract me from the overall experience of the game. I always pretend that this is what the characters would look like if they weren't played by actors, in other words, if it were real or read in a book. The graphics aren't the best either, but the graphics aren't the worst. I think I'd compare it to Grand Theft Auto 3, which isn't as good as recent games. So it is dated, but not bad.

What really shines about this game is the soundtrack, the songs from the movie are all here. "Little Green Bag" and "Coconut" to name a couple make their return in this game. You can listen to the songs during the driving missions of the game, which brings me to the driving. Yes, it is a chore to drive in this game, but it also isn't impossible. It is easier to drive if the controls are tapped instead of being held down the entire time. Overall, if you love the movie, I really do think that this game is worth playing. It is really fun and I have no regrets that I got it.

I had fun playing it.

While hearing "Resevoir Dogs" may bring bring back the warm, fuzzy feeling you had when watching Tarantino's blood-soaked film, the game leaves a bit to be desired. Fans will be pleased to find that the game allows you to navigate your way through many scenes found in the movie as well as a few only referenced in the film. The main characters are all in play though they are all incredibly generic. The voice talent with the exception of Mr. Blonde who is voiced by the actual actor, is mediocre at best. The game looks like a dumbed down version of GTA in graphics and character movement and feels very clumsy and dated. Some of the special tactics you are supposed to use are just pointless. For example, using a hostage should prevent the use of blasting your way through a level but the cops don't seem to notice or care that you've got a human shield and shoot the hostage and you for what seems to be just the sheer pleasure of it. Several missions require you to drive from point A to point B but the control of the car is so hideous that you'll probably find yourself plowing through a crowd of people or some other drivers unintentionally. The background graphics are completely unimaginative and rehashed throughout the entire game.

Most of the special features included on the game disc are rather pointless. I doubt many people would care about Gerry Rafferty's droning story about the inspiration for "Stuck in the Middle with You" or fifty versions of the K-Billy radio voice overs which are riddled with Tarantino's shrill giggles of glee. If you are feeling especially desperate, perhaps watching the development of the Quentin Tarantino action figure would be a thrill for you. No? Shocking.

The soundtrack is spot on though and contains many of the same songs in the film. Overall, the game isn't terrible but should have/could have been better and it feels like it was released without being quite finished. The generic feel of the entire game detracts from what the developers were trying to do and to say that the game controls need a bit of work is an understatement. Rent before you buy.

A great game for fans of the movie!!! Reservoir Dogs rocks!!!
