Good Start: a little short and weak though

- 35 hours max game play

- 1 basic Varitech to pilot with slight modifications (paint, space upgrades...sure they'll call 'em by different VF-#s but they all fly the same)

- 3 very short training missions (not worth much...could have expanded this a ton to earn our Varitech wings)

- small 2 player VS mode (I'm not interested in playing head to head at all)

- some single player levels can be tough, most are darn right easy (rule of thumb...your going to beat the mission first try or 4 tries later)

- It's fun to play but there should have been a little more length and variety to just about everything (especially the levels)

---

I've never been a huge fan of Robotech (Macross) until now. This game is really good and fun but if I had to do it over again...I would have rented it from BlockBuster (it only took 3 days to beat) and then waited to buy it when the price has come down.

It's just not enough game for the price. It's really fun unlocking all your Varitech paint designs and getting medals...but it's very short and not very challenging. Unlocked different Varitech models change the balance of armor, speed, amount of missiles, and turn rate. You will not notice this in game play much at all though. Armor is about the only thing that will truly effect the outcome of the more difficult single player missions.

With this game engine and Harmony Gold now looking like it might actually take an interest in selling Robotech games here in the US...I'm excited for a sequel game. The sequel better have more vehicles, more paint designs, more emphasis on flying and piloting skill.

I would have been super excited to fly a Cat5 on a scouting mission or simply walk a Destroid down the street in a mission...too bad they didn't include that.

Rent it...wait...and buy. Hopefully a sequel will give us more challenge and just plain MORE!

THIS GAME [STINKS]!

Let me first say that I am a long time fan of robotech and desperately wanted this game to be good, unfortunately all they could release was another licensed ripoff. DO NOT BUY THIS GAME!!!

1. The veritechs (transformer) moves around like its stuck in mud.
2. The movement of the battloid/fighter/gerwalk is so bad that theres almost no way of moving around without getting stuck or feeling disoriented.
3. All the environments are repetitive and poorly modeled.
4. The deathmatch (multiplayer) is useless since you can't ever find your opponent and even if by some miracle you do you'll probably go right past him or miss with every shot.
5. The missions are repetitive and lack any variety.
6. Even the visuals [stink], they lack any detail and the animation is substandard.

Not bad

I couldn't get through some levels.
I guess I am getting old and impatient.

The surprising level was the ace alien fighter.
One on One.
It flies past you every 2 to 5 seconds.
Doesn't stand still to allow you to retaliate, fight back.

Almost impossible to beat it, until I figured out to hide,
and then ambush it.

The Tension was real, Failure was not an option.

I will give it five stars if I could play someone One on One,
via internet or not.
If you haven't read or heard already, long hours at/on these games CAN KILL YOU. I heard an adult died from long hours of exposure to these games. I do feel very tired after 1 hour. Had to turn it off.

So, kids, limit your fun time, if you don't want to go to ER.
or have your mother cry over your death.

Not bad at all...darn surprising

Robotech: Battlecry is a good game. There. I've said it. A cel shaded shooter with a resurrected license sounded like a recipie for disaster in this day of the "make it quick and they'll buy it anyway" mentality. Shockingly, Vicious Cycle has pulled off a pretty solid effort. It isn't no Ace Combat 04, but it isn't half bad.

Battlecry has lots of levels and decent graphics to boot. The familiar Robotech soundtrack is here, unfortunately it is a remixed version which isn't as good. Oddly, the soundtrack suddenly speeds up (bad glitch) sometimes. There are voice overs from some of the original cast members reprising their roles from the Macross Saga of Robotech. Sound effects are ok, nothing special.

Where Battlecry succeeds is in the control. Your veritech fighter controls differently in all the 3 transforming modes, and learning to deal with the 3 modes is a lot of fun. The
PS2 controller is suited to this type of game, and seems better than the Gamecube's or even the XBox's control schemes.

A word to the original Japanese Macross fans: It is a fun game, and though it has the Robotech license, might at least be worth a rental if you're too mad at HG to buy it.

One of the best for ps2

As a huge fan of Robotech, I was thrilled to see a long-awaited video game title. Battlecry definitely captures all the elements that made Robotech a hit. It has a great story, awesome gameplay, and an awesome soundtrack to boot. Any fan of the series will love to take on the role of Jack Archer, an RDF veritech pilot, and fight against the Zentraedi fleet on earth, in space, and in the air. Simply a fantastic game...buy it today!!!!!!

this game was ... i can think of a word to describe it. It had great graphics, cool game play, and on top of that it has a TV show counterpart to get it more fans. This game has lodes of things to do, collect badges, gain ranks, and 2 player mode. If you love Mechwarrior youll love this game. 5 stars all the way

I always wanted to be a veritech pilot

This game was everything I hoped it would be. Remember when we were kids and we rushed home to watch this show? I know I was enthralled by the story and fascinated by the mecha. Now I can play this game and I feel like I am part of the story. I like that you aren't playing one of the main characters. It makes it seem like this your part in the saga. If you always wanted to fly a veritech and fight for the RDF this is it!

WOW!! WHAT A RUSH!

If you're a Robotech nut, a shoot 'em up fan or just a variety gamer, this is something you don't want to miss. An action, challenge filled, firefight. Revolving around the Robotech Macross Saga, you play a Veritech pilot during the first two Robotech Wars. Through the game, you encounter characters and events of the memorable series, which the plot and gameplay largely remains loyal to. The variety is extensive in some areas and somewhat lacking in others but keeps you on your toes, none the less. Controls in combat are mostly good though a bit too sensitive in menu screens. The graphics are gorgeous and sounds are relatively moderate. Some levels and bosses are notably complex though the final battle suffers from a lack of expected difficulty. Some of my friends disliked the ending, but most Robotech addicts are able to discern the shape of the SDF-3 coming out of fold in the bright flash. Overall this game is fun, challenging and loyal to the Robotech Saga. Trust me, it's worth a try.
