Fun game!

This is one of the most fun games i've ever played. You can choose between five kingdoms (sixth is hidden) and your goal is to take control of the continent. You have Rune Knights which can possess monsters (dragons, tiamets, giants ect-) so that you can fight wars with these other countries. A very fun game that should have you playing for hours. Each country takes some 30-50 hours to beat. And you can play through the game using each, + the hidden one. Even though I've beat this game several times, i still go back and play this game because its so fun. I love strategy, role-playing type games.

Too simple for its own good

Strategy games by their very definition usually mean that you're in for an in-depth experience that will challenge your brain cells. Not so with Brigandine. It doesn't have enough options to attract hardcore strategists, and it's too dull to draw neophytes to the genre. You select one of five kingdoms, differing only in geographical location and in initial Rune Knights (human characters with classes such as Witch, Druid, Berserker, etc.). The world map is divided into battlegrounds connected by roads, and you're given a certain amount of game time to take 'em all by force (except for those two kingdoms on the west coast that are all buddy-buddy). Each Rune Knight controls a squadron of monsters (which can be created and, occasionally, swiped from defeated enemies) which can increase in size as their experience level goes up. To conquer new territory, you can send 1 to 3 Rune Knights (one is suicide, two isn't much better) to a neighboring location in enemy hands and do battle. The fighting is done on large maps divided into hexigons and it's about as simple as can be. There aren't many spells to cast and the cardinal rule here is that whoever has the biggest, baddest monsters wins. When one unit attacks another, the game cuts to a battle scene where you see the attack and, sometimes, the counterattack in duller-than-a-bowling-ball 3-D. Mercifully, you can turn this option off to expedite the fighting. The "story" (such as it is) is told through dialogue boxes superimposed over the world map. At the end of the day, this game just doesn't try hard enough to draw the player in. It's a time-killer, nothing more. Fans of "grid" style strategy/RPGs like Final Fantasy Tactics (which happens to be my favorite video game EVER in spite of its occasional if-you-don't-have-the-right-skill-equipped-for-this-fight-you-are-utterly-screwed unfairness) may be drawn to it since this genre is not the most populist, but it's a limp-wristed production. Without the superfluous 3-D scenes, it could have easily been done on the Super NES rather than the PlayStation. Not a terrible game, but not worth the time required to finish it.

BEST GAME I HAVE PLAYED IN YEARS.

This game is truely awsome, I loved the battle and the gameplay. This game is really, really hard and you must be an RPG master to beat this game. You can choose from 6 armies(Purple, L2+R1+Start at kingdom selcet screen)to control, battle, and rule. There are at least 50 mosters and knights to control. You can play as mages, preists, ninjas, and much more. take my addvice and try this game.

Very Enjoyable Game

Brigandine is admittedly a simple game, however, it is possible that this simplicity is what makes it so endearing. You choose to be one of 5 countries and then your goal is to set out and conquer all of Forsena. The (main) characters are pretty interesting, and though their dialogue is limited, you get a sense of what kind of people they are. It's not the best game when it comes to graphics - the monsters have only have a few shapes just with a different paint jobs, and all the normal knights, not the leaders, look alike if they are the same class. The monsters themselves are vey interesting, being derived from all sorts of myths from around the world. The stories for the countries are simple, but usually cute, and if I may say so, Leonia's storyline is exceptionally cute. It is true that to win, you just need the strongest army, but it's fun to switch classes to learn different spells and figure out how to best approach the enemy. The beginning battles are the hardest and require the most strategy, but that's not to say the later battles require no strategy. One of my favorite things to do is to send surplus knights of mine off questing and seeing what they bring back. In my opinion, the quests are one of the best parts of the game because they are random, and getting stuff (or getting hurt) from the various adventures is somehow enthralling. I liked playing this game, and as side information to help people to see where I am coming from, my favorite genres are RPGs, strategy, and action, in that order.

Not hard to beat at all if you are into it, even on hard mode. There are limited classes and units. The gameplay gets redundant after awhile. The music is good though. The learning curve is short. There is little tactics involved if you can build a good army. There are many underhanded way to kill and defend. For example, you should keep the hydra on water so it can heal itself to infinity. The graphic is terrible in 3D but awesome in 2D because it is hand-drawn.

This is a must have game!

This game is very easy to play, but due to different landscapes of the battles and different levels of your players, you'll never get bored playing it again and again.

Brigandine is an awesome game. with so many countries to play and so many different monsters to use and develop, the game has almost infinite playability. Brigandine grand edition is even multiplayer.
