I've played them all so I know what I'm talking about.

So, here is the deal. I have played and beat every Tomb Raider game out there except for the Game Boy Advance one. Anywho, I ordered this game in September of last year, and delay after delay made me mad. So I cancelled my order and waited until the game was OFFICALLY released for PC(since i dont have a PS2). There are quite a few new things that I like about the game:
>Lara looks awsome. New clothes and makeup, with a whole new personality that you actually get to control when she talkes with people.
>The new moves are pretty sweet too. Stealth sucked for me at first b/c i just like to get out my guns and take em out. In the beginning, you dont even have ammo for your weapon(no unlimited signature pistols). But you get to use stealth a lot so you'll get good with it.
>I also like that you get a nice peaceful break where you can collect yourself and gain some money and valuable information, after your initial run from the police in Paris.

There are however some drawbacks which i'll disucss now.

>There has always been more glitches with the computer version of a game like this. Lara steps up stairs now and is super sensitive to the steps. Example: If you walk up the step and press left or right, she does a full 90 degree turn in that direction. So be carefull or you'll get frustrated very quickly. Or maybe that is just me.
>There are some points that the game just completely glitches and you have to turn it off and restart your computer. So sufficiet to say "SAVE A LOT!" If Lara herself starts to look funny and glitch up, turn it off. It will only cuase you problems later on.
>The controls are a little different, and still just as frustrating as ever.

All in all though I think that the game was worth the wait...for the most part. I'm looking foward to being able the play the Kurtis character 3/4 into the game. Until then though I recommend the game so far. Just so you know, I'm half way thru the game, and I bought the strategy guide, which is well worth the 15 bucks.

Pretty graphics, and that's it.

I must admit, this is my first exposure to the Tomb Raider franchise. I know it is very popular and I was looking forward to it. Quite frankly, if things have been THIS bad all along, I'm not sure where the popularity comes from.

The scenery and graphics are pretty, and the camera GENERALLY does what it's supposed to. But the controls are absolutely terrible. There is no strafe (move left - move right) function; you can only turn and move either forward or backward, and there is no free-look. The mouse is practically useless. The control lag is UNBEARABLE. If you bring the character to a stop, it takes 2-3 seconds before you can get her moving again. Turning goes EVER so slowly. Jumping and maneuvering is SO bad that it's much more difficult just to get the character to move about than it is to play the game itself. Frustration ought to be in the task at hand IN THE GAME - not getting the controls to do what you want.

Even accounting for the fact that this game is 3 years old, compared to other games of THAT time, this game does not measure up in any way.

I realize that third-person games are difficult to do well, but this game is just plain bad. There are far too many games available - then and now, 1st and 3rd person, and of all different types - that combine great balance and control with great environments. As an avid gamer, I must strongly suggest against this game; don't waste your time or your money. Buy a pizza and get far more enjoyment out of it.

However, to be fair, I can't speak for the folks who are immersed in the Tomb Raider franchise. They may be inclined to look more forgivingly upon the atrociously bad controls and glitches in this game.

Tomb Raider : The Angel of Darkness

Tomb Raider Angel of Darkness is not as bad as they say but has got the be the weakest of all Lara Croft games. It is a good action adventure game but with big problems. The bad controls and odd camera angles are the major ones. The controls are quite different from the other games and will take some time to get used to. Lara has some new moves like punch and kick but they are useless because of the ugly controls. They do not cause much damage either. The AI is very bad. The enemies do not notice you when in stealth mode and it is better to use stealth than combat. The weapons are bad too, no pistols with unlimited ammo. The enemies also drop few ammo when killed. Lots of puzzles but easy compared to the others. We also get to play a new charecter Kurtis Trent in a couple of levels. Controls are the same but he is a total waste. There is not much about him, he has no story too. His boss level is the most frustrating level in the game. It will take you hours to get past and what happens after that is enough to drive you crazy. Graphics are far better. Lara is better detailed here. The story is quite good. Verner has been murdered and Lara has been framed for it and she is on the run, she must find out who did it and why. Except for two boss levels, the levels are well desinged. Tomb Raider VI is not a bad game, it is the controls and the camera angles that make it unplayable.

Could this be a next step for Tomb Raider?

With the sucsses of the two Tomb raider films, 'Tomb raider' and 'Tomb raider: the cradle of life', more and more people are playing Tomb Raider. This new game has Lara Croft been suspected of a murder, 'Van von croy'. It's up to Lara to find who murdered Van von croy, but the police are always there. There are many new features to this game, eg. talking to people, sneaking around and to fight fesicly aginest people, with out using guns. I would of thought having all thsese new features would make this game brillient, I guessed wrong. With all these more powerful consals, the game shouled be brillent. To me it's mostly just the same to all the others. They have a good stroyline for once, but one day they could think of an idea to make it better. For all Tomb Raider fans play it, but new commers i wouldn't.

NOT IMPRESSED

Just got the game....NOT IMPRESSED! These 5 star reviews must have been written by the makers of the game, cuz this player thinks it [stinks]. Lara's movements are slow and chunky. Movements that used to be simple, such as jump back to get a run forward, has turned into spin Lara around, walk, and spin around again...and since this changes your view of the surroundings it's easy to get confused (camera angles [stink] too) Lara's control is a nuisance and it's NOT worth my time to play this game.

Angel of Darkness is Straight from Hades

Yep folks, I'm sad to say the title was appropriate for the origins of the game--Hades. I strongly recommend waiting for a demo, trying the game elsewhere, and/or reading official reviews before even thinking of purchase.

Controls are some of the worst in any game in recent years, and horribly frustrating, even when remapped to other keys. The mouse is simply used to turn Lara, not to control perspective, and camera angles can change unexpectedly, sometimes causing what was "forward" one minute to become something else the next. Get ready for some serious motion-sickness and confusion.

When doing something like running up stairs, even the slightest change in direction (via keys or the mouse) can cause her to instantly go the other way--not good in situations when time is of the essence, and absolutely maddening.

I'll leave it to others to describe how Lara needs to build up abilities like strength and the like as a new feature. Personally, I find this one not even worth trying to finish.

Looks like the months of delays were because the creators knew the game stank. Graphics are improved from previous Tomb Raiders, but nothing can save a game like this that's so painful every second due to horrible controls and camera work at the basic level.

Worst game I've encountered in at least a couple years. Can't recommend except to the most die-hard, curious fans.

i've have more fun taking a dump than playing this crap

I LOVE the tombraider line. I waited for this game with bated breath......And it was absolutely horrible. :(

The controls are so bad, the game is virtually unplayable -- they're sluggish beyond belief! No more fast-paced running & jumping. I literally had to STOP MOVING, in order to perform side jumps! (doesn't work well, when you're being chased by a ball of flame, from an explosion behind you)

It crashes randomly.

There's graphics glitches all over the place.

Should've known it was crap, when the release date kept getting moved back. /sigh

Note to self: read the reviews before buying another TR game.

Fun when you Fly

3 Rating: 3, Useful: 3 / 3

This game is absolutely frustrating and glitchy straight out of the box; you'll need to download a ton of patches from Eidos.com to get it to work. Even then it will still be dreary until you learn to fly. Search the web for kind gamers who have posted the fix that will make Lara fly. You can fly out of your environment and float over the city, landing in other sections and confusing the heck out of the bad guys, who will only harm you if you arrive in the game's predetermined order. The baddies tend to run in circles if you come down from the heavens. And it's a great trick for those nasty spills Lara sometimes takes; the fly function brings Lara back to life after any mishap. With any luck flying will still be a hidden option on Legend.

This Game Looks Great !

All I can say is this game is going to rock. The graphics look
better than ever, Lara's pistols look exactly like the ones in the movie, and Lara has the coolest outfit. And the plot ?
Well the plot is terrific. The plot is: Von Croy ( Lara's old mentor) gets murdured and Lara gets blamed for it. Lara has to
track down the man she thinks did it and keep away from the police at the same time. Meaning she's the prey and the predator
at the same time. The player can also pick what Lara says in
conversations. This game is also going to be great because you can use your body to fight. This is good because if you run out
of bullets you can fight with your body. Lara is also smarter.
One thing is for sure. I am going to buy this game.
