SquareSoft Does It Again

I must say "SaGa Frontier 2" is one of the best RPG's I've played in a while. The graphics are really impressive and the battle music or the music in general is excellent. However, there is just one small problem, and that is the complex battle system. It took me nearly three days to finally understand it. Also the way you actually learn "arts" is frustrating!! If you put aside all of these problems then SaGa Frontier 2 is definetely worth your money.

Terrible game

I liked the first series but this was aweful. The music was beautiful and so were the colors but...

1. Weapons break, some with as little as 20 uses. If a weapon breaks you have to restructure your entire spells and skills section to accomodate for the new weapon elements.
2. You're constantly using different characters. There's no connection felt between you and the characters because you get a completely new party almost every single time. Build up your character and get weaklings again.
3. It's hard to tell what order you should select the events in. One minute you're 12 the other minute you're best friend of old age. Time in the game moves fast.
4. The game has some glitches that may make events unpassable.
5. The game has events that seem like super busywork. Areas that did nothing before trigger events. Some are almost impossible without a walkthrough.
6. The plot is horrible. It's boring, the character development is aweful.
7. It has quicksave but it forces you to use it. Some monsters in the game are nearly impossible and are everywhere in some scenes, like griffins.
8. The battle system is super annoying to learn. If you forget to unequip skills you end up not learning any, and you have to do stupid duels to gain stuff faster.
9. You're constantly fighting over and over and over. You're actions do not effect the plot, rather you're 'rewarded' with another tidbit of the aweful story after killing infinite amounts of monsters.
10. Some wars are nearly impossible and completely a matter of luck. In the wars you have armored guys around gustave it's impossible to lose. The whole war thing is a joke.
11. It takes like 10 seconds for the battle to start, between the battle transitions and you and the monsters fading in. It's not a lot, but after you've had like 5000 battles which the game makes you fight it's a kick in the teeth.

This is not a fun game. It's incredibly frustrating to actually work through

This game is only fun if you do not play wills departure mode you lead this small army after the game proggreses a little there are small little battles are fun but the army battles are super fun when the gustauve mode turns into will mode you might as well push the power button but otherwise its damn great

Saga Frontier 2: Second verse not as good as the first.

I loved the first game with it's "chose your own adventure" format and it's enchanting tales of a futureistic/mystical world full of Vampire-like Mysitcs and vengeful superheroes, so when I read in my favorite gameing publication, PSM, that Square Soft was releasing a sequal, I was thrilled. as soon as it appeared on the shelves, I bought it and began playing as soon as I got home. Sadly the game play can get tedious at times and it lacks the wide range of immediately playable characters that the first outing had, other than that, the game is pretty good. If you look at SF2 as a stand-alone title instead of a sequal, you stop compairing it with the original and see it for the intriguing story it is. It may not be Lunar or final fantasy calliber as far as story and character development, but the battle system has been improved scince the first game and there is plenty of humor to be found scattered about. All in all, Saga Frontier 2 is just a good game for a rainy, boring day.

5stars for fun, but the graphics...

This game is unlike any other. It has a teriffic story and battle engine but the graphics... Its like playing a cartoon! I think it ruins the whole game! I prefer graphics like those in the ff series. If you can get over the horrible graphics, then you should surely check this game out.

close but...

This could have been a great game. The hand drawn scenes are really unique and a pleasure after the polygon hash of many games. Sadly, the story is a bit bland, as with many recent RPGs. The non-linear story gets a little annoying after a bit and did not really get me to "role play" and feel any great excitment or interest towards the characters. But relative too much of the trash in my favorite genre, this isn't horrid. Give it a try if you've played Dragoon and Chrono Cross already

Why in God's name did they make a sequel?

I own Saga Frontier one and it isn't as bad this is. Why can't these SaGa Frontier games be good? I thought that this game would be different. No longer competely non-linear gameplay. There is a story that is very evident how who are supposed to follow it. Not like Saga Frontier where you could wander around for three hours and still not know what you wher doing. The battle system reminded me of old Game Boy games. You can only use this weapon 50 times and the attacks are incredibly weak quick whack the enemy again. I'm sorry but I am a firm believer that weapons shouldn't have a fixed usage to them. I believe that they should break on a rare occasion but they shouldn't have fixed number of times to use. The story goes between two characters that you choose which one to follow. At least they took a better stab at making a better story for the characters than they did last time. The battle system is also very complex. There are three types and sometimes it really confuses the player as to the differences between the three (and there are differences). The game's music has never been a strong point. I didn't care for it at all. Some of it was really good the rest sounded really bad. The graphics are beautiful though. They look very similar to those in Legend of Mana (same artists I think) and they will bowl you over. If you like graphics and don't care about anything else with a game enjoy. Otherwise don't waste your money.

Quite disappointed........

I was quite disappointed with the quality of this game expecting the SQUARE quality. I have played most of SAGA series known to be another generation of FF series.. Every SAGA series have been quite interesting because of its use of 'free scenario' where players can choose which event to complete in any order. Surely it was like that until the first Saga Frontier.

With SF2 a player can choose which event to do next but in a way it lost that sense of 'freedom'. The game is like reading a history book and the player has several options when playing the game. Each time period has different main character and that character may appear in different time period (either older or younger)

In terms of the game play, it is quite simply to learn but towards the end you would have played so many characters, you tend to forget which character has what items. Pocketstation can be used for 'Go go digger' and other game which I cannot remember but I did not find them very useful.

If you are used to games such as FF, then you may find this game quite different and at the same time quite hard to get used to the system.

Why would you make a game like this

I have seen bad games but, this just needs work. The battle system is horrible. The characters are ok. The way the begining starts is just stupid! What more can you say. All I can say is this game is no fantasy but it needs help.

Second the best????????????????????????

In this case second is definatly not the best. I recomend the first one for anyone who like excitement. Although fighting remains true to the first the gameplay and plot are pretty bad if you ask me.
