It gets Spider-Man all wrong. It' s ruining Spider-Man' s good name.

Graphics: 1/10
Yucky, and the characters look like monsters.

Sound: 1/10
Booooooooooooooooooring

Gameplay: 1/10
Is this a game from Activision and Neversoft? The creators of Tony Hawk' s games? Seems not?

Lifespan: 1/10
Too short

Replay value: 1/10
Not likely.

So, you play it once if you have a thing for boring games, YAY. You finished it in one turn. Now buy Jak II.

Style over substance

I was really looking forward to the release of this game after playing the demo. All the elements are there: wall-crawling, web-spinning, swinging from building to building, and voice-overs from Stan Lee. The whole package is amazing in its capture of the comic book look and feel.

And yet... I found myself getting bored with the game after playing it for about 4 hours. After going through a few of the missions (beat up guys then fight boss, or try to complete some sort of platform/maze puzzle under time pressure), I realized that I had no incentive to go back and replay any of the missions. Exploring the buildings of the city is not very rewarding - it's just one empty building or rooftop after another. There's no score-keeping, so it's not like you can go back and "improve" your performance on a mission.

Ultimately, the game is fun to play and really captures the feel of the comic, but it won't keep you entertained for much longer than the 2-3 days it takes to finish all the missions.

not bad, not bad

The game is fun for a few hours, but then it just starts getting boring.

This game has amazing graphics, real good voice overs, but it's just not worth the 40+ bucks.

It takes about 2 days to finish, ones you do, your probable never touch it again.

I suggest you rent the game first!

Fun but short and easy.

The most fun aspect of Spider-Man is the web swinging. The game moves quickly and is quite entertaining. Someone said kids may have a hard time solving the puzzles. My 9 year old nephew finished the game 3 times in a 48 hour period. He's only allowed to play on the PlayStation on weekends, and he'd finished it twice before Sunday. And he'd unlocked most of the easter eggs.
The game isn't much of a challenge, but as I said, it's fun swinging around New York, kicking the crap outta the baddies.

Game is too Short

I purchased the game around two weeks ago as a birthday present for my brother. We had rented the title previously and liked it a lot. The graphics are quite good, and game play is good too. (The three dimensional immersion effect is quite unique.) The problem is, we completed the game on the first day my brother opened it. Of course, we had saved our progress from before on our memory card, but six days total game play isn't that great -- especially for this type of game. Spider-Man definitely had a lot of potential -- it works on many points -- but it is way too short. It seems like there are levels missing; important plot elements are never concluded. There is almost zero replay value. With so little play value, Spider-Man certainly doesn't feel worth the price.

activision and neversoft really did do good on the first 12 levels but after that it got real boring this is what i mean the sewers were real boring there wasnt much web swinging in the game either i gave this game 3 stars because it lacks the skills of soidey overall it does have good villians but thats aboat it
and the game is somewhat fun but i would rent it first

Fantastic! Incredible! But I want more.

Let's get one thing straight, in my personal opinion every single super hero game that has come out has been terrible. Fortunately Spider Man has broken this abysmal tradition.

The Good - Fantastic graphics (using Tony Hawk's Pro Skater engine). Spider man looks good. While there are definite polygonal issues once you get up close it's fantastic considering it's being run on the PlayStation. Entertaining dialogue. I must admit I chuckled a few times at the exchange between Spider Man and some villains. Just listening to the Webslinger making puns and cracking jokes after pounding the hell out of someone just strikes me as amusing. As far as the actual dialogue and voice acting for the story goes, well, it varies. Some of the characters really seem to come alive with whoever did their voice, yet others seem a little weak.

Finally Getting to be Spider Man. This is a big one. Yes he's been in games before but they've never been this good. Just getting to swing from building to building is a treat. From coating some bad guy in webbing to jumping on his back and punching him in the head, it's just fun to be the Webhead.

The Bad

Game length. It's just too short. I really think that if Neversoft had made a second cd and included more levels this would be an unbelievable game.

Linearity. This is another one I had a problem with. There's a right way to do things and that's pretty much it. I thought a big part of Spider Man's persona was that he used his head to find different ways around an obstacle as opposed to always just smashing it?

Limitedness. In the levels where you're cruising the New York skyline (there are not nearly enough of these by the way) there's not much point to going to most of the buildings (with the exception of the occasional power-up) because they're empty and dull.

What I would have liked to have seen-

More of New York. Really, after about 15 floors it disappears into a fatal haze. What I really would have liked to have seen was the ability to actually travel around the city. Now that would have been fantastic. Maybe even a random adventure/quest generator would have been very interesting. Now you can say "Wait for a MMORPG" but that wouldn't quite be the same. In a MMORPG you aren't the focus of the game whereas with this everything would be revolving around you and how you react (much like the Spider Man comics).

Despite the flaws I wholeheartedly recommend this game with one restriction. You really need to like Spider Man to buy this game. What I'm saying is, if you aren't a fan you probably won't want to shell out that much money for such a short game.

Oh well, maybe we can hope for this for a release on the PSX2.

The web master strikes again!

Spider-man is one of the best super hero game ever. The game has incredible graphics. The vary from the skyline of New York to the sewers. The videos they show you before each level are great. It is like you are watching a real episode of Spider-man. The fighting is great. It is also fun to oswing from building to building. The only bad part of this game is that it is too short. Just when you feel you are really getting into the game, it is all over. But any way this game is worth the money.
