Best for the Mech's

5 Rating: 5, Useful: 1 / 1

This is the best game for all Mech fans. It has explosions, 1v1 battles, strategy, and even a good back-up story. It is by far one of the best games out there. If you have this game and already finished it then save your AC and buy the expansion: "Armored Core 2: Another Age" YOU CAN LOAD YOUR OLD AC! It has 100 new missions for your pleasure.

Good, but not the best.

Ok, lets start with the strange (not bad, I won't say bad...) parts. You have a rifle. I hate the rifles. Machine guns are the best. But it costs way to much to get any upgrades. That's about the only bad thing. The good points: nice CG (Computer Generated) views, when you get the upgrades, awesome results, and the laser sword (Droooooooooooooooollllllllllllllllll {drip}). I love the arena. Oh, one more "strange" thing. The missions are to complicated.

Good and fun yet difficult game

well first off i would like to say i enjoy this game even though some of the missions seem imposible (seem but aren't). This game is fun and easy (at first) as the game goes on it gets alot harder. some cool features in the single player game is the Arena, where you can fight other mechs and their piolots to gain money and progress on the Arena rank. THIS GAME IS NOT FOR PEOPLE WHO THINK THEY CAN JUST RUN IN AND SHOOT EVERYONE WITHOUT DYING. MAny times you will find yourself running out, shooting, then running back. another cool thing is the customobility. you can buy different and better parts as you gain credits. at the end of every mission you gain credits (if you complete the mission that is) then it tells you how much you have to pay for repairs and amunition (even if you fail). The game WILL be frustrating at times and be extremely difficult too but remember its only a game even though it almost looks real

....AC II is by far one of the best games I have played.....

If you have read the product description, then you already know what the game is about so I won't bore you with all of that information. AC II is by far the best games that I have ever played for any system. Just recently I was introduced to the PS II system, and imagine my surprise when I found a mech combat game like Mechwarrior on PS II. I was overjoyed. For those of you that don't know Mechwarrior, it is in essence much like this game only with fewer design choices. You get a chassis and you get to pick weapons and colors and armor thats about it. Now combine the elements of both of these games together plus new special features and add-ins, and you have got my favorite game on this system. No doubt this will hold true for me for many years to come. THIS GAME IS CHALLENGING AND YOU CAN NO DOUBT SPEND HOURS AT A TIME PLAYING IT!! I would stay up at night and play 3 hours or more before I went to bed. This game is truly addicting. If you plan to get it, watch out. YOU WILL BE HOOKED. A++++++ FOR THIS GAME.

Real dissapointment

I expected more than just flashy graphics from the next generation of this sereis of which I'm a huge fan. Instead of making the missions more suited to a mech they've actually made them more difficult and taken away any chance of successful preparation and you almost always run out of ammo.

One on one combat is the good part of this game. But that's it. Not enough new parts, no improvements to the mission-based part of the game.

I also experience TREMENDOUS slowdown in multiple parts of this game....

Because of what I consider to be a significant flaw, this is a somewhat superficial review of Armored Core2. Armored Core 2 has great graphics and even, nicely designed missions, although it often requires you to repeat completly unnecessary dialogs and setup sequences even for repeat attempts that only serve to waste time. Aside from that though, it has what to me is a major and disqualifying flaw. The PS2 has really great analog controls. Armored Core 2 doesnt use them. They say they use analog control, but they only use the 2 analog sticks as single push buttons. How can you build a cutting edge mech fighter and not bother to incorporate one of the most significant features of the PS2. This would be bad enough on its own, but the manual controls are extremely slow and ponderous. If something is shooting at you from behind, you can pretty well count on the fact that by the time you can get these hulking beasts turned around you are going to be toast or at least severely damaged. They also accelerate and decelerate with equal lack of alacrity. I might add, that the AI mechs that are attacking you actually appear to have higher performance than you can acheive in your own mech. It is a terrible shame that an otherwise really great game is so severely flawed by such inadequate control. The design it yourself mech feature is really excellent, and if it werent for the truly hobbling nature of the controls, this really would be a 5 star game. You will find my copy for sale online real soon now.

If your gonna buy Armored Core, buy this one instead of Armored Core Another Age! This one has the tournument mode Another Age doesnt?!I finished this game, and got bored with Another Age and stopped playing it,after completing 80% of it! Another Age has nothing new from this one exept missions,I hear the new Armored Core will be like Zone of Enders? Thers some plus sides to that but I will miss the original be talked about.

The BEST PS2 Game by Far!!! A must have!

I am not prone to hyperbole, but Armored core is the best of PS2s early offerings. I own the Madden game, the SSX game and others all of which are superb, but Armored core remains my favorite and the best because of its graphics, its gameplay and its features.

Armored Core 2 offers stunning landscapes of Mars as the backdrops for most of its missions but you rarely have time to notice them because you are often engaged in the heat of battle fighting off opponents or finding your way to the next target. Nevertheles But it is not the landscapes that are the real stars of Armored core, but it is the Mechs. And in this area, the game does not disappoint. With stunning detail the mechs you wage war with and the ones you create are full rendered to perfection.

The gameplay itself is nothing short of revolutionary. If you were a big fan of Robotech as a kid, then you will particularly bond with the concept of being able to pilot around your very own giant robot complete with missles, guns and boosters. Granted, it took a great deal of time for me to come up to speed on handling the controls, but thanks to the arena mode, I was able to hone my skills, make some money to buy decent equipment thus making the missions a little bit less challenging. And believe me, once the controls are mastered, you will live, eat and breathe this game.

But what makes this game, and in my opinion, any game truly exceptional is your ability to customize. You can construct your own robot, name it, color it and even stake a name for yourself in the Arena with your very own logo. This customizability makes the gameplay never ending as you continue to experiment with different combinations of hardware for the right situations. My only disappointment with the game was that there weren't enough missions or people to fight, but of course I reached that state after 5 month of playing this game.

If you have the playstation 2 and do not own this game, then by all means get it. This is not a rental because it takes time for you toget the hang of piloting and to become personally involved with your robotic creations. You will definitely be satisfied with your purchase.
