I've been playing magic since i was 7 now im 12, i think the fact that you have to buy all of your cards all over again if you have a killer deck and you want to use it online, but it is really fun

OK Granted it's fun it's easy to find somebody to play with but what about thoses long hard hours of staring down decklists to create that perfect deck? The feeling of hunger cause you saved your lunch money to make a trip to the local card convention IE Frank & Sons if you know what i'm tlaking about but still. Making players "BUY" cards online as well as irl? Wut the hell they are just using this as a market stat to get noobs hooked on it

I bought this game for 15 bucks and then i couldn't play because i ran out of money. The damn store said i couldn't return it cuz it was "opened" Now i have to start my magic collection all over from scratch even though my real deck rocks peopl to hell. Don't get this unless you buy a normal magic deck every week because that's what you'll need to do to afford this... Gameplay great though

I got into Magic The Gathering, because of my son, when he was about 11 years old... his friends were all playing it.
Later, through a local card shop, I became good friends with many people playing and the owner of the shop, who guided me in my card selection (and helped me learn the fine art of deck building). I spent A LOT of money of certain cards... "lightning", "Rolling Thunder", and, of course, dragons,and angels. When my son moved on to other card games and "grew up", I kept the cards and bought him out as well. More than the whole business of whether it is "1st edition" or any other, I found the game to be highly stimulating.
The art of deck-building and card selection is an art in itself and is often times more fun than the actual playing.
Now look what they've done!!! Having to buy the cards AGAIN, online. I guess it's better than playing by yourself... and learning from the whole experience of winning and losing is invaluable.
Mostly, I loved the comradery, and the fun of learning that either you "decked" badly... or pulled out a suprise-- like putting together a rat deck that swarmed over someone who had a killer deck. Whether you win or lose... I really loved the experience.
I can't see playing for money or getting THAT competitive about hoarding every great power card in compendeum of the game. I like the idea that the game is still active and is being valued by a new generation of players.
When I can, I'll try it...

As a long time player, I thought it would be a good idea to be able to play online against anyone anytime. I thought this was the next evolution in the "Magic interactive Encyclopedia". Instead I find I have to buy electronic cards!! Worst yet, it cost just as much as buying real cards. Imagine now some hacker or fluke insident erases all your cards, What's left? ... A better alternative is to find a copy of the Interactive Encyclopedia and just play others online wiht every card ever made.

Fun, but DO NOT BUY!!!!!!

Okay, first off, I love playing MTG. However, this game requires you to spend hundreds of dollars if you ever hope to build a truly great couple of decks. The prices alone lured me away within ten minutes. I bought this game used, luckily, so I didn't waste too much money. I installed the software, prepared to battle fellow MTG fans around the world, then saw the prices. I haven't turned the game on since. Don't be fooled by the fact it's online. If you ever see this game, run away. Far, far away!

If you want to learn to play Magic, or even if you've played before, I would highly recommend this game. I am fairly new to Magic, and have really enjoyed my first week of Online play.
Just to give you a honest description of what you will be buying: it is basically an apperatus which allows you to play Magic online, at various levels of gameplay. Yes you do have to purchase decks if you want to explore the higher levels., but the Training room allows you the use of all the 7th edition preconstructed decks in real live games with other people online...
Possible drawbacks: For those who have never played Magic, it could of been designed a little more easy to learn, but there are online moderators and other players who will help you learn very quickly. For advanced players, who have spent years building decks, it may be a bummer to have to start over getting the cards, but I'll bet it will challenge you to play with these limited resources!
One quote from a player I encountered online, who had never played MTG before: "Where has this game been all my life!"

The effort involved with implementing a gaming system like this is monumental to say the least and that implementation is just the tip of the iceburg. Maintaining the server, debugging and adding new cards as expansions and revisions are released in the "real" world will be more than a full time job. ... you can take part in a 4 wk Sealed Deck League with a chance to win more booster decks. I have played almost 100 matches for that [money] and look forward to many more.
I was initially put off by the cost of "virtual" cards, but when really thought out, it isn't a bad deal for universal access to such a great game!

First, I was introduced to Magic the Gathering by a High School Student of mine many years ago, I loved the game but didn't like having to go to the back room of a comic book store and listen to some teenager rant about their interpretation of the card text and declare my combo illegal etc etc... so I gave up.

Fast forward 12 years, the online game is up and running, after a few bumps in the road, the software works great, yes it takes along time to download, it is a big install (you can get the CD ROM for free) and yes the cards do cost money... that is the whole point of the game, some cards being more valuable that others, therefore making them more desirable, you don't have to spend a fortune to play... a small, weak deck can beat a powerhouse deck if the cards fall in the right order and the player is paying attention.

If you feel inclined to complain about the cost of "virtual" or online cards look at your real world deck, are they free? How different would the game be if you and every other player were issued 4 copies of every card in print, every player would load up with rares and wollap on each other! The beauty of this game is building a balanced deck that uses commons, uncommons and a few rares to play off of each other, great decks can be built on the cheap.

Finally, I've heard the rant "they want us to pay money for online cards?!?" Exactly how much do you think that your "real" cards are really worth? They cost less than a nickel each to print, and yes, Wizards is making money hand over fist, the only value that cards have is to play the game or to a collector; other than that they might as well be a used Kleenex box, cardboard and print bound to end up in the trash.

Wizards designed a great game and in the process minted a licence to "print their own money" as they create new cards... if any one of you who are complaining could pull this off you would do it all day and all night while laughing all the way to the bank! Any hobby costs money, I got into fishing because it was "cheap" one bass boat, 20 or so rods and reels and countless lures later... well you get the point, I fish and play magic to relax and have a good time.

The pros are, no back rooms filled with annoying teens arguing over rules, (annoying teens take no offense I was one once as well) play anytime with people around the world, if someone gets obnoxious, just concede the game and move on, no haggling over rules or the meaning of the card text, the cons are cards... like anything else of value in this world, costs money, and you can always redeem them for "real" cards if you want.

I can't believe this game! I paid $[money] canadian, and when I played it, I found out that you have to BUY your GAME CARDS online! Basically, your wasting...bucks so that you can play a very basic demo, unless you are willing to pay $[money](u.s.) for each virtual deck! There are a few 'up' points in this game; the avatars are cool, backrounds add a nice touch, and so do sounds. But, really, I hope I can get my money back for this phony game!

I'd have to say, if the cards were included in the game, I would rate this game a 4 or 5, but paying for more on top of the game is just dumb.
I mean, come on; THIS GAME SHOULD BE FREE!!! You should get it for free, then pay for the cards (hey, it makes sense, huh?)

I can't believe I'm stuck with something I can't use...
