All it is cracked up to be

Magic Online is the answer to all of the prayers of those, like me, who love MTG but can't ever find someone to play with. By putting this game into an online community setting, Wizards and Leaping Lizards have made MTG into what is was intended to be. One can trade, play, deck-build and collect online. With the server-side application of the software, you can feel confident that no one is cheating. The singular drawback though, is that those of us with killer physical decks may never get to play those online. Once the game launched on June 24, we all started at square one. Even the best players are scrounging for cards. However, this does make it a great place for newbies to jump on because for a while everyone will be relatively equal.

Magic Mania!

Calling all Magic: the Gathering fans this game is awesome! Play magic, buy, trade and sell cards all online. You can play ppl all over the country. I love it!

It's Great! Just like the card game, but online!

The game itself plays great! Like anything, it isn't perfect, but it sure is fun! I love the fact that I can now play online with old friends who no longer live close. Leaping Lizards did a great job, and the game is getting better every day!

So if you're an obsessive-compulsive nut case and unable to control what you spend, then you should probably stay away from this game. It's loads of fun, so you might be hooked. But if you are a semi-normal human being with an ounce of self-control, then you are in for a great time! Play with old friends, and make new ones! I highly recommend it!

Hey! What a rip off!

I can't believe this game! I paid $[money] canadian, and when I played it, I found out that you have to BUY your GAME CARDS online! Basically, your wasting...bucks so that you can play a very basic demo, unless you are willing to pay $[money](u.s.) for each virtual deck! There are a few 'up' points in this game; the avatars are cool, backrounds add a nice touch, and so do sounds. But, really, I hope I can get my money back for this phony game!

I'd have to say, if the cards were included in the game, I would rate this game a 4 or 5, but paying for more on top of the game is just dumb.
I mean, come on; THIS GAME SHOULD BE FREE!!! You should get it for free, then pay for the cards (hey, it makes sense, huh?)

I can't believe I'm stuck with something I can't use...

Warning! What you see is not what you get!!!!

Hello?! I saw a product called Net Magic a couple years ago, that did exactly what this does for a good playable game, without all the bells and whistles. The only drawback was the programmer had to input all the cards and it took time.

This game blows! You have to get the "shell game" first, then buy more cards online! Rediculous! Whats next? Buy the box at the store, then you would have to download the game online?

Forget this product, pass it up, save your time and money, they are just ripping you off buy not selling you the electronic cards to go with the game. I am insulted this product ever hit the market...

Paying Money for online cards?

This game is one big money-making scheme! OK first you have to buy the game itself. If you do this u can set up an online account without paying the 10 dollars but it wouild be cheaper if you bought the game online without buying the cd! Second you have to buy online decks and cards for the prices they sell them in real life! I mean you have to pay ten dollars for an intangible version of a card that you will never really ever own! All they have to do is lower the prices to about 2 dollars per preconstructee deck adn they will generate much more capital per customer due to the fact that people are turned off by this game due to it's heavy cost! Wizards should be ashamed for making a high priced game like this..it's great to play IF YOU HAVE THE MONEY TO SPARE. BUYER BEWARE!

Fun, but not meant for the low-on-money kinda guys

I bought this game for 15 bucks and then i couldn't play because i ran out of money. The damn store said i couldn't return it cuz it was "opened" Now i have to start my magic collection all over from scratch even though my real deck rocks peopl to hell. Don't get this unless you buy a normal magic deck every week because that's what you'll need to do to afford this... Gameplay great though

You Do Get Some Cards To Start With!

This game is fantastic. Especially if you have no one local to play with. It just like the paper card game, allowing you to buy, sell, and trade cards. The card selcetion is what is currently allowed in standard format play, so you won't get to play with a lot of good older cards, but the selection and diversity I have seen online is great. These cards won't wear out or bend!

Several reviewers have stated you don't get any cards with this set. It's not true, you get a certificate good in the online store for one starter deck, which contains 75 cards. After that you have to buy, trade or beg for cards, just like in real life. Or if you want, you can play with that one deck forever and never spend another cent.

The implementation of Magic rules is great, and you don't have to worry about anyone trying to cheat you, or missinterpret the rules. The game looks and plays beautiful. You can join or form clans, that will eventually get to participate in clan only events. Join leagues, play multiplayer games like Three Headed Giant or Emperor. There are online tourneys to enter, with rankings and prizes (but these do cost money, just like real life). But, the best thing about Magic Online, is now I can find an opponent anytime I want to play a game.

Nice concept, big moneymaking scheme

This is not the same as playing magic in real life. If you already have a huge collection of real cards like me, you will have to start all over and pay for a bunch of "virtual" cards.
Get the magic the gathering interactive encyclopedia, if you can even find it (I suspect wizards phased it out to make people buy this). It lets you play online and use any cards you want - even replicate your real life deck, or improve it.
The encylopedia does not implement the rules, so you need to make sure you play with people who know them. Otherwise its much better than this.

Great game for veterans or beginners!

If you want to learn to play Magic, or even if you've played before, I would highly recommend this game. I am fairly new to Magic, and have really enjoyed my first week of Online play.
Just to give you a honest description of what you will be buying: it is basically an apperatus which allows you to play Magic online, at various levels of gameplay. Yes you do have to purchase decks if you want to explore the higher levels., but the Training room allows you the use of all the 7th edition preconstructed decks in real live games with other people online...
Possible drawbacks: For those who have never played Magic, it could of been designed a little more easy to learn, but there are online moderators and other players who will help you learn very quickly. For advanced players, who have spent years building decks, it may be a bummer to have to start over getting the cards, but I'll bet it will challenge you to play with these limited resources!
One quote from a player I encountered online, who had never played MTG before: "Where has this game been all my life!"
