Good but not exciting!

Burnout is a great game but you're not actually destroying cars like if you crash into the car, the money is for dameage unlike the points you get. If you want a really exciting and crushing cars game, you should either get Burnout 3 or Burnout Revenge.

Okay Crashing/Racing game.

The object of this game is to race through busy streets, driving as recklessly as you can. The more dangerous the driving (near-misses, driving on the wrong side of the road, skidding..etc.), the more your Turbo builds up. Once you get Full turbo, you can get up to speeds over 160 mph. But if you crash, your Turbo goes all the way down. You race against three other CPU (Computer Controlled) players, the first to the finish line wins. Usually there are 3 laps.

You can choose from 5 or so different cars and colors before you start racing.
The cars are a truck, a Viper-like sports car, a Ford Focus-like compact car, a Mitsubishi-like Sports car, and a Mecedes-like Luxury Car. you can unlock other cars by winning races.

This was a pretty good game, it has some pretty awesome wrecks in it. And when you crash it automatically shows it again in slow motion (that can be a good or bad thing).

I give the crashes a 4.5/5 the graphics a 4/5 and the replay value a 2/5

It's fun to play at first, but once you lose interest in it, you usually won't want to play it very much.....

WATCH OUT... TOO LATE!

I would like to purchase this game but the price is too damn high. I mean it came out in 2001 and its still $69 dollars. That dosent make sense. On Amazon.com it is there for $20 bucks American. Too bad they dont ship thier video games to canada. Anyway back to Amazon.ca. The gamecube version is only $26 bucks. They better start getting their prices looked at or theve lost a customer.

I played this game on my sister's Gamecube and loved it so much that I bought it for my PS2. The graphics were awesome and the realism of the crashes were better than any of the Need For Speed games. I can't wait to try Burnout 2: Point of Impact...I am sure it will be even better than this one! For the price, this is definately worth buying, just for the open ended playing.

Nothing compared to Burnout 2.

I did not like this game at all. However I love the sequel Burnout 2. I suggest you avoid this one and play 2 instead. End of story.

makes up for all the boring racing games I've tried

Let me start by saying I hate most racing sims, where it's just you against the turns and the gears in a sad attempt to exactly capture the thrills of actual circuit racing. It doesn't work. It needn't work. Why do they keep trying? Who plays that junk? Video games are capable of so much more, so why not get a little more fanciful? Burnout makes great use of moving and unpredictable obstacles (traffic) to produce a first-rate arcade experience unlike anything you could try in real life (more than once anyway). Sure it has the turning and sliding and manual transmission issues of a "real" racing game, but the real fun is in trying to drive against traffic at 110 mph to build up turbo so you can go even faster. The courses are really wonderful. The action really keeps the heart pounding as in no other game I've played.

Other racing games I love (all PS1 for some reason):
1. Crash Team Racing - Fantastic alone or with friends
2. Sled Storm - great use of shortcuts, tricks, terrain
3. Micro Machines - overhead every-toy-on-one-screen

REALLY boring racing games: Sega GT 2002, Rallisport Challenge, Smuggler's run (multiplayer mode), ATV Offroad Fury, GT3

Shock-horror, GT3 fan likes Burnout!

Maybe I'm an exception but people who say that good reviews for this game must have no experience of other driving games are seriously wrong. Having got 96 point something percent through GT3 and completed all the main missions in GTA3 I bought Burnout on a recommendation from a friend. I'm happy to say that I was not disappointed, true it's a little short (by no means as bad a MGS2) but I feel it has high replay value. Even now I turn the stereo on (Burnout's music is about the lowest point) and sit down to do a couple of races when I have some spare time. The game is all about gameplay and who cares if the graphics aren't upto scratch compared to GT3, you're flying through city streets dodging traffic like a cat on speed. One reviewer mentioned that the manual is lying about being able to drive a truck, it's not; sometime after completing the 3rd or 4th championship the oppurtunity occurs. In total I have aquired a total of 7 cars so far and there may be more.

i broke my controller i got so mad at this game

at first you're like"wow look at that crash that was awsome",and you drive into oncoming traffic nearly hitting almost every car. but then you find out how annoying this game is.the only fun level is the first one. every time you crash you lose five seconds from your already rediculuosly low amount of time to get to the next check point and once you lose every race because you crashed twice and couldn't make it to the next check point in time you will find your self saying "why the heck did i waste 50 bucks on this?!" acclaim had a good game but put to much focus on the racing aspect of it. if you want a good racing game get grand turismo three and if you wanna destroy cars get twisted metal:black or twisted metal:black online(won't be out for about 3-4 months but has more features than tm:black) all this game is good for is annoying you
