F1 fan from Connecticut

The improvements over last year's game are remarkable. One gets more of a feel for the accleration and deceleration that formula one cars are famous for. The detail of both the cars and the tracks are astounding. I thought that in F1 Championship season 2000 all the tracks looked flat. One couldn't get a feel for the ups and downs of some of the inclines and declines that are such a prominent feature to some real F1 tracks. That has changed in this year's game. In particular, going down and then up into au rouge in F1 2001 is a lot of fun. In addition to graphics and game play there are some new multiplayer modes and a challenge mode which allows one to be graded on their driving skills in any and all conditions, for example, taking the chicane at Interlagos in wet weather on dry tires. A true F1 fan will enjoy how recent the game information is (i.e. Alesi is in a Jordan and Frentzen in a Prost), but any fan of driving simulations will find this game fascinating.

FAR Superior to the recent F1 game by 989 Sports!!!!!

989 Sports and EA Sports both released their 2001-season F1 games in the same week in North America following the U.S. Grand Prix. Of the two, EA Sports' F1 2001 is by far the superior game.

This game builds on the series of F1 games EA Sports has been releasing, initially on PSX and now on PS2. This incarnation of the series takes most of the eatures of previous games in the series, modifies the physics engine to provide more realistic handling, adds more options to customize gameplay, changes the AI to make the racing more interesting and exciting (with CPU-controlled cars sometimes four-wide down a straightaway as they dice for position), provides much more teammate and race information via the team radio, improves the replay function, sharpens the graphics, and provides so many unlockable features that the replay value is amazingly high for a "straight" racing game.

While Gran Turismo 3 is most certainly THE must-have racing game of 2001, F1 2001 must certainly rank in the Top 5. In fact, playing F1 2001 will help with the few F1 cars in Gran Turismo 3, and vice versa, despite the differences in handling between the two games.

Formula 1 fans must buy this

Let me first start off by saying that I am a huge F1 fan. So, When I play this game i expect it to be very similar to the real thing. I already owned EA's F1 2000 and I played it nearly everyday. So when I saw that EA was coming out with F1 2001 at the same time as 989s "Formula 1", I was planning on gettting the 989 versioj to give it a try until i got to the store and saw how much better F1 2001 looked than 989. I thought i could possibly be wasting 50 bucks since i already own a year old version of the same game. Man was i glad i bought the game. EA has made numerous improvements over 2000. NEW FEATURES for 2001:
1. The cars are actually DIFFERENT as opposed to just having different paint jobs and noses. Each team car is totally different from the other ones, and for a F1 fan you want your car to actually look like your favorite teams real life car.
2. A new camera view. Finally you can BE the driver. instead of the overhead on-board camerea that is normally used, you can now look through the drivers eyes. and now that F1 2001 has the drivers ripping their "tear-off" visors, when you use this view you are blinded for a second when you tear off a visor. it just makes the game that more realistic. not to mention, you have as hard a time seeing from this view as a driver does in real life.
3. your crew talks to you on the radio.
4. interactive pit stops. no more just turning into the pits and watching. you cannot stop thinking for a second.
5. reflections. it sounds minor, but the reflections on the cars is incredible.
6. dirt. yes, i said dirt. when you go offroad and kick up dirt, the dirt looks so real. especially when you are earning your license and go off the road it pauses while the camera rotates around the car. great graphics.
7. grid girls (and crew). you can sit in your car on the grid surrounded by your crew and beautiful grid girls.
8. rain. again, more great graphics. am i playing a game or watching a race on speedvision?

ok, the few drawbacks. in simulation mode, they added tons of settings compared to 2001(tire pressure, gear ratios, and much more). i would say too many, since unless you are a F1 mechanic and know every track it will take you a long time to get the maximum setup. you should be able to control how many setting you want. not just all or none.

i dont know who is giving this game bad reviews. probably people who dont like F1 or even motor racing. if you are a F1 fan, gearhead, or any race fan, you must get this game. my PS2 broke 2 weeks after getting the game, so there are probably some more cool features that i havent gotten a chance to see. i cant wait to get my PS2 back so i can play this game some more.

The best F1 experience!!!

Great improvement from last version. I own all F1 games and the 989sports version as well but this is the best one so far. If you love speed and F1 in general you have to get this!!!!! Unlike other reviews...... it is possible to drive under all weather conditions. You need to set up the car right and you need to make your right choice of tyres. It takes time to learn all the tracks, you need to get into it. Thats the fun of it. If you want to drive arcade for a six year old stay with "Cart Fury" or "GT3" where you can't get hurt/damaged. This F1 game requires brains, feel, real passion and dedication like in todays real F1 world!!! Sample of excellent graphics and details i would like to point out are: the helmet reflects treelines/shadows, Indexfinger shifts and .......take a look back while you race Monte Carlo in the Tunnelsection at high speed.

I bought the game last week. This is the best F1 game I've ever played.

Why F1 2001 Is The Best Ever

Why do I say this is the best F1 2001 game ever? Because there is a challange every step of the way you get on the game. Unlocking new modes unlocking the season review video was a great challange. For example Domination, you had to WIN every race no matter what. Now, I see some people saying 989's is better... but after you actually PLAY F1 2001 you will say the EA Sports one is better. If you are an F1 Fan or not go get this game gaurenteed fun for you and your friends. What could be added to make this game better: Create a Car.

Excellent, Realistic graphics that are mind blowing!!!

I am a huge racing fan. I was truly suprised with the graphics and speed of this game. Although i have been trying to make my way SLOWLY through GT3, I have found myself drawn to this game. I fing the rain and smoke features realistic and difficult to negotiate.

I hope this version gets the attention it deserves! I have not seen any online or magazine reviews yet.

My Opinion = Two Thumbs Up!!

I was skeptical at first but I'm glad I purchased it! It is just what the doctor ordered in F1 racing. Great graphics and game play. If you really don't like it just resell it on Ebay, I'm keeping my copy. If you are a fan of F1 you will love it. I hated the EA F1 Championship Season 2000 and it had better reviews, laf.

I'm already tired of GT3, I've had enough of mismatched cars.
GT3 will go on the shelf but I'll still be playing:
F1 2001
Madden 2002
Nascar Heat 2002

GREAT GAME!!!

EA Sports F1 2001 is the best F1 game ever made!!! I don't know why I see some reviews that are really low. The graphics are awesome, the gameplay is awesome, and so is the fun factor. It is a challenge to get pole on some tracks if you are not very experienced, even on easy and that's why it is so fun. And you slow down much if you go off the track and there's mirrors on the car and if you want Michael Schumacher or David Coulthard to take the pole, play as them. It's a video game not real so it's cool to see some new names at the top of the list, even though I'm a huge Schumi fan. I love this game and so should any F1 fanatic!!!
