A unique action/strategy game for the PS2.

5 Rating: 5, Useful: 10 / 10

Giants Citizen Kabuto is a port of the award winning PC game. While the graphics suffered (considerably) during the porting, thankfully the gameplay did not. What makes Giants so enjoyable is that its humor is very British and extremely funny. It is almost impossible not to laugh while playing. Additionally, although a third-person shooter, Giants incorporates intriguing characters and many varied styles of gameplay that require a great deal of strategizing and puzzle solving. Players must use the enormous landscapes, creature behaviors, and resources to solve each task given.

While the incredible colors and textures in the PC version have been scaled back, Giants on the PS2 offers several features unique to itself. Firstly (and thankfully), the game now includes an in-game save feature. You can save anywhere at any time. Oddly this was omitted from the PC version and causes much frustration to PC players. Secondly, the PS2 version contains worlds that are much more alive. Huge Pterodactyls fly overhead, water flows in waves, and doves and other small animals inhabit the Islands. None of this is in the PC version. Thirdly, the frame rate is pretty solid. In the PC version, unless you have a very powerful computer, the frame rate varies quite a bit. Finally, commands are superbly mapped to the PS2 controller making the game easy to play.

In the end, I actually enjoy playing Giants on the PS2 more than on the PC. Although not the best looking game on the PS2, I highly recommend Giants Citizen Kabuto. It is one of my favorite games on the system because it is incredibly funny and very rewarding to play.

Strategy? Where?

Despite what you may have heard the are virtually no RTS elements in this game. The "base building" missions only require you to go pick up items and bring them back. The computer does the rest. (Think of yourself as a harvester from a C&C game.) Besides that the graphics are substandard and the gameplay tends to be rather repetitive, even with three different characters to control. But on the other hand the game is rather funny and the Mecc missions give you a group of other Meccs to fight alongside. But in the end these to things dont make up for the games flaws.

Giants is one of the best strategy games i have played for PS2. The beginning is a bit slow, but once you get to mission 5 or 6 it turns very fun. In addition to the 3 different races you can be there are many intresting weapons and powerups. The only problem with this game I have foung is that the graphics are not as good as they could be. Still I give it 5 stars. All and all it is a great game!!

Not at all worth buying!

I see a few reviews on here from people who have played the PC version. The sad truth is that the PS2 version doesn't live up to how great people say the PC version is. The graphics are extremely poor - they look like a PS1 game! - load times are painful, and the gameplay itself is disappointing at best, downright tedious at worst - there are far too many places in the game where you have to do things just exactly right, or you die and have to start over from the start of the level. It seems like it was written by a bunch of english 'lads' who were just having a fun time, goofing around, trying to see what it would be like writing a video game. DEFINITELY rent it first - because you won't buy it after that.

If you want a GREAT game in the same genre as this (albeit on a different platform), pick up "Starcraft".

I rented this game and wasn't sure about it at first, but let me tell you this game is a great game. I played it almost non stop scince i rented it. I think this is a game that you might consider renting not buying because it is about medium in length so you can easily beat it in like 3 days without playing all day.

Fun and hilarious

This game is by far one of the best games I have ever played. Not only is it very fun to play(complete with three races), but the constant jokes and idiotic actions of the characters makes the game an instant favorite. It has a racing mini game complete with rockets and homing rockets, a giant monster that stomps around and flattens everything in sight, which you play as, a unit of soldiers at your command with plenty of lives, big guns, lots of explosions, and yet another playable character with spells, swords, and bows. You get to build bases too, setting up defenses and getting rations for your settlements. You might want to buy it;... and you'll want to play it again and again.

This is one of the best PS2 games I have ever played! The graphics, sound, and gameplay are all great! 'Giants: Citizen Kabuto' is a very addictive game which I highly recommend you buy. Never have I played a game that is so hilarious, fun, and action-packed. 'Giants' is a must-have game for the PS2!

If this game retains the gameplay offered by the original PC version, it will be one of the best games ever released for a console system.

Witty and challenging!

This game is in one word, incredible. It has huge worlds available for you to explore, at least on the PC. The scripting is masterfully done, with awfully crude yet somehow witty jokes peppering the voice-scape. Beautiful graphics combined with fun and challengin gameplay make levels that can be completed however you choose. This is one adventure you don't want to miss!
