It may seem sort of little kid-ish but its really a lot of fun. I cant stop playing it. Its like chips once you sart its hard to stop. There is always something new going on. I LOVE this game.
If you haven't tried it then do so. It really a lot of fun once you get started. There is a couple of down sides to it but that you have to find out on your own.

It feels like your in a whole other world! You can own a Horse, a few cows, six chickens and a dog.But you can also raise plants,do part-time work, forage for idems, ineract with characters and get a girlfriend! When you save the homeland the game isin't over!
The only bad part is if your chicken or cow dies. There are nine diffrent endings.Buy it PLEASE!

Well, besides not getting married in this game, i find it great, good graphics, lots of items, and able to cook is great, and 9 differnt endings is great considering i beat one way in a day ( about 9 hours ), it was the blue bird of happiness one, also the dog which can do tricks is good, its supposed to herd cows but i have not found that out yet, but its an all around game that will get u hooked for a month or 2

Lazy Natsume...

I played Harvest Moon for about 3 months... I loved it. Now when I play save the homeland I wonder if Natsume got high while making this game...

Bad Gameplay (-)

Too Short (-)
Bad Storyline (-)

Overall I think this game is okay but is mainly about the endings (9) which i think Natsume is trying to do. Not getting married or not having a baby and the areas being farther away are the big reason why I disliked this game and I blame Natsume for being lazy and slacking off on this game.. But i forgive him since he has created the orginal harvest moon (!BUY IT!) that is 5 times better than Save the Homeland.

I only Recommend you buy this game if you've never played Harvest Moon or don't care about any of the bad changed in the game.

I have Harvest Moon: Save the Homeland, and I love it! It is so much fun! Right now, I'm just getting started by exploring the town and getting to know people. Even that is cool! I'm trying to get to Bob's store, but it's closed on Thursdays. Unfortunately, the day hasn't changed yet. Anyway, after you have restored the farm, the Harvest Goddess will help you to Save the Homeland. I can't wait!

GREAT GAME!

this was my first harvest moon game i got when i was 8. now i have all of them but the one for snes and i still go back to play this one. it is my favorite because you can work for another farm to get money and you have to in order to get a horse! this is the only one where you have to do something in order to get the horse but i think its better to have to earn it then to do nothing and get it. a must for anyone who has or has not played harvest moon.

A Dissapointment For A Loyal Harvest Moon Fan

I absolutely love RPG games. I have purchased the Harvest Moon: Back To Nature game for PSOne and that is FAR better than this game. When I saw that the Harvest Moon series took a step further, I purchased this game. One of the worst mistakes of my life. Yes - that may sound harsh - but it is true.

Harvest Moon: Save The Homeland is amazingly short. The days fly by - even when you do part time work at the neighbouring farm. There are a total of 9 endings, and each are fun for awhile, but then put you to sleep. Once you complete an ending by 1 year, your game resets, and all the townspeople forget you. Yes, only one year, as apposed to Harvest Moon: Back To Nature which is an infamous amount of years (provided that the townspeople let you stay)

Of course, despite me bashing this game left and right, there are some pros... as well as more cons...

PROS:
*Stunning graphics. It's very appealing and very nice to look at. The animals are very well done, and the overall colors are nice as well.
*Less farm work. In the Back To Nature game, you have about a whole acre of land that you had to clear a bunch of stuff (weeds, tree stumps, large boulders, etc.) However, in Save The Homeland, there is no work to be done, at all, except getting a doghouse built and expanding your home. (Which could also be a con, as it makes the game less interesting)
*You have an ability to choose between two dogs - the original labrador-like pup that is the main dog from every Harvest Moon game, or the more german shepard-like dog you may see running around the village.
*Animals and livestock are much cheaper. In Back To Nature, Cows are 6000G, however in Save The Homeland they are only 2500G. Chickens are 1000G cheaper in this game, making them easier to obtain as well.
*After your first ending is over, and your game resets, you still have all your expansions, all of your G (money), all of your livestock, and all of your tools.

CONS:
*To get a dog, you must chase it for days. It takes forever until you actually are able to catch the dog, name it, and call it your own.
*Getting a horse is a hassel. You must do days and days of part time work at the Brownie Farm. This takes about a month.
*No marriage - you can't marry any of the women in the town, let alone start a family, unlike the other Harvest Moon games.
*Your farm is rather small. There is a bit of room for crops, and a medium sized pasture - that's about it.
*You cannot just glance at the time and date. In Back To Nature, the time, date, and season are in the top right hand corner at all times. In this game, you must pause to view the date and time, which I find inconvienient.
*There are no festivals, and the only events are intermission sequences, which help you progress your chosen ending.
*If you give a girl involved in your ending too many presents, she becomes annoyed. That urks me... it's a hassel, because you're trying to befriend her to complete the game, yet she gets annoyed if she gets too many presents.
*The controls are a bit haywire and tricky to get a hang of.

Of course, I really prefer other Harvest Moon games over this one. I'm being serious when I say I've paused this during gameplay and fell asleep, due to it's boredom... I personally think this is the worst game in the Harvest Moon line up.

Overall rating:
Sound: Okay
Graphics: Great
Plot: Mediocre
Characters: Okay
Controls: Confusing

I really only recommend this game to people who like games that you can complete in just a few days...

Very fustrating

This is a very fustrating game. For example It is almost impossiable to make enough money to keep you'r animals alive for one days work at bob's farm isn't enough to buy one bottle of medicene, and your animals get sick no matter what you do!!!!!!! Second of all the controls are confusing. Finally figuring out how to sell items is very confusing. If you give an Item to a person they take it from you saying that you could have sold it. But how!!!!!!!! I sold this game an bought NCAA 2003, a much better game.

What the...!?

This game has a great concept, lots of things to do, and a cute look. Why the low score? Well, the in-game time system is, in a word, wack. I would barely get outside and get my bearings, and it would be mid-afternoon already! Then, one time, I got lost trying to find a path in the "morning", and by the time I found it (a few real-world minutes later), it was "night"!! How am I ever supposed to build a farm and save the homeland if all the stores are closed by the time I get to them!? This game could have been Animal-Crossing caliber, but instead it's just confusing and weird. Too bad. I was really looking forward to it.
