Looks more like PSX

The graphics on this game were extremely disappointing. Really blocky and jagged. I was bored with it within 10 minutes. Don't pay more than $10

Step 1. TURN OFF THE COMMENTARY

The commentary is embarrasing. Fortunately, you can turn it off in the options section.

Step 2. You must not be a graphics hound, parts of the game look like a N64 game. It has very poor texturing in some parts and yet other parts of the game look GREAT! What a mystery.

Step 3. You must like racing games that would be considered arcade. You must love power-ups and short cuts.

Step 4. If you don't like tough games, you won't like this game. The AI is determined to drive you off the road and also often speed by you and takes the power-up you were meant to have.

Step 5. You don't need a memory card, this game has that capability of coarse but also gives you PASSWORDS for progression.

Step 6. Since this is like SSX with cars, worse graphics and limited tricks, you'd be better off buying that game instead, unless you have it already.

When the computer cheats, the game isn't fun anymore.

Graphics - Good enough, I suppose, but not the best. They are a little on the grainy side, especially during the introduction movie. Which doesn't make sense, because it uses shots from the game! How is it that playing the game looks better than the intro? The tracks aren't really anything special. Though I have to admit I have yet to see another car racing game with tracks full of places to do stunts.

Controls - Very smooth. No problems here.

Sound - Excellent. Cars have slightly different motor sounds, which you probably won't be paying attention to while you're racing, though. The announcer never seems to get annoying, even though after a while you've heard everything he says at least once. The music is okay, but once again, you won't be paying much attention to it either.

Gameplay - The main area where the game falls apart. For several reasons. For one, you HAVE TO have a friend to play this game with you while doing the championships and try to get the top two or three spots every race. Because the computer cheats, even on the easiest setting (forgiving) and especially when you start hitting the Elite class races. You need to get the top spots so the CPU can't win the gold, because if one of you doesn't doesn't get gold you can't advance to the next championship.

How does the CPU cheat? It seems to have unlimited turbos and unlimited traction power ups that it can seem to activate at will to counter the effects of other power ups and zoom ahead of you. Freeze, the ice power up that affect a cars handling ability will sometimes have no effect on them if they get hit with it, while it can end up getting you completely turned around and crashed into a wall. Plus the CPU seems to be able to take all the corners, turns and shortcuts perfectly. At the beginning it doesn't even use the shortcuts, but later it uses all of them and knows which ones to use to get better lap times.

Once you do manage to get gold in the championships, you will unlock one new car, and one new track. However, this unlocks only half the cars, as you will have to find a hidden egg on each track to unlock the other cars. Had I known this when I first played it, I wouldn't have been so pissed off the first time I played through the game. Because when I had finished nearly all the championships I still hadn't unlocked all the cars. Plus to begin with, most of the cars you do unlock are worthless. The only cars that have decent handling are Tiberius and Silver Streak. Don't even bother touching the other cars, not even the Cataclysm, though it has the same stats as the two I mentioned, since you will notice a difference in how the car handles. Which makes this game's cheating more evident, as it can seem to propel cars that have sublimely awful stats and handling to the top spots, since I've seen cars like The Banger place second.

Replay Value - Almost non-existent. For one, the game is a pain in the ass to play through because of the cheapness and cheating of the computer. You'll never get the best lap times, so being able to race the tracks with your friend for fun to see who can get the best records has been ruined. The top scores for total race time and lap time for each track are IMPOSSIBLE to break! So are the scores on the stunt mode. Who the hell set these records, they have to be manufactured (meaning I think they were just typed in) because you don't have a hope in hell of ever touching them. So once you've unlocked all the cars and all the tracks, there isn't much to do. Like I mentioned before, 90% of the cars aren't even worth unlocking in the first place. You could play through the whole thing over again from scratch, but what's the point?

This is a pretty good game (well short from great). I would give it 3 1/2 stars if I could. I will list the good and the bad.

Good: *The Graphics *The Powerups (especially the Twister!) *2 player co-op mode

Bad: *2 players! I would give it 4 stars if it had 4 players *It took me 2 weeks to win this game. A five star game should take 1-4 months to win.

This is only good if your a big racing fan. I would save your money for something like TM Black.

Key to the future: *1-4 players (including co-op mode) *more stuff to unlock

A showcase racing title for the playstation 2......

EA is off and running with the playstation 2, their latest effort is on the verge of being a must have the sony's new system. First, the graphics, though not jaw-dropping, are solid and the framerate is more than adequate to keep up with the hectic on screen action. The backgrounds are fair to good, anything more probably would have resulted in slowdown. The tracks are wonderfully designed, with shortcuts everywhere, the only slight flaw i find worthy enough to report, are that the powerups are somewhat difficult to differentiate in the heat of the battle(the icons are a little small, and all have a similar design). For any racing fan, this is a must have, anyone else at least deserves to check it out.

Not bad

A pretty interesting arcade style racer with good crashes and nice speeds. If you are a racing fan and have money and you don't know how to spend it, consider spending it on this.

Annoying Commentary

When you first play Rumble Racing, you will notice that only half the game is available to you. To unlock the meatier cars and tracks, you will have to finish the championships. Doing this can be very frustrating, as the oppenents a.i is excelllent. This means that you will be doing the same race for ages, not good. There is also one other tiny flaw within the game, and that is the most incredibly annoying commentator in history. When you land a particularly good stunt, or blow one of the other cars into the air, the commentator will say "woah, you rawk!", or in the worst possible case "I bet you feel as happy as a squirrel on a nutfarm". This is one thing I hope that ea will rectify for the sequel (and the next, and the next, as is always the case with ea games). Overall: if you are a racing nut, consider this ESSENTIAL-this truly is ssx with cars.

4 1/2 stars actually

I rate this 4 1/2 stars..this game is just great. The graphics run at 60 frames per second..with no slowdown whatsoever. No pop up either. Seems like this game is anti-slowdown. But the graphics have some jaggies..kind of like Ridge Racer V. And th ey're a little cartoony. The sound and controls are great..although you can't customize them. You can pull off crazy tricks...it's really cool. You also get a good sense of speed..unlike midnight club..that runs at 30 frames. I wish there was more weapons. You have a limited time to use a weapon once you pick it up. I gave it 4 1/2 for the jaggies and limited weapons. But still, great game. If your a racing fan, buy this. If not, rent, and buy if you think it's worth it.

Great game for a great price.

If you are looking at this game right now you know that it has come down 20 dollars in price. Let me tell you paying 29.95 for this game is worth it.

The game play is very addicting, fast paced, and it being a ps2 game has fairly fast load times.

The tracks are all fairly original, while a few may seem familiar to other tracks. Finding the shortcuts in each track is fun, and a must to do because the faster the cars go the smarter the AI gets.

The best thing about this game is the frame rate. There is no slow down whatsoever on this game. While the background graphics are a little on the weak side, you are going too fast to notice it. The cars though look very detailed, and the license plate on the car you are diving will put the players name on the back of it.

The powerups for the game are incredible. The TWISTER is just a joy to throw if you are sitting in last place. Throwing bombs and sonic blasts are a joy to watch. It makes for some spectacular crashes.

So if your looking for a game thats highly addictive and very unrealistic....you will have chosen the right one. I gave it four stars for lack of background graphics.

2nd best game for PS2

5 Rating: 5, Useful: 9 / 9

My favorite game for PS2 is Madden, but this game is pretty damn good. It is by far the best game I have played since madden, the gameplay is tight, the graphics are great, the tracks are fun, and you can play 1 vs computer, 2 vs computer, or one on one. One of the better features I've seen in a racing game is the ability to remove other cars when you play vs. another person. For example, when I want to absolutely school my friends Todd, or Sway in a race, it can be one on one and I don't have to worry about them complaining about the other cars.

It would be great if it had a multi-tap feature, but this is great for now. The replayability is a lot of fun, since you have options to find "easter eggs" to unlock additional cars.

I also don't have time to sit down and play for an hour straight anymore because, well, let's face it I'm not in college anymore and I'm not getting any younger. This game gives me the ability to play for 20 minutes since you play 3 tracks at a time. So you can squeeze in a game or 2 without annoying a wife or girlfirend.

All in all a solid game. Much better than ATV, but not as good as Madden.
